  1. No, but that is a case where the money is just coming out of nowhere, that I did nothing to earn, and is not directly related to my contributions to a for-profit corporation. Playing Powerball also does not put my personal health at risk; I put down $2 a ticket and anything I win is just gravy, whether it is $5, $5000, $1M, or $350M. I understand your viewpoint, I just think it is not one that is shared by very many professional athletes. There is of course, some wiggle room especially with the "non-guaranteed" money and later years.
  2. I think it's a matter of degree. It's true that the difference between $175M guaranteed and $100M guaranteed is not particularly significant in terms of lifestyle. (I am ignoring non-guaranteed money because one career-ending injury and you never see it). However, the fact that other players actually hate you for taking well below your market value would be a significant factor. Certainly the enjoyable workplace factor weighs in somewhat, but not to the degree of taking massively less. The more the organization is committed to winning, I think a slight discount applies.
  3. Several factors there: - As a national figure, Brady could expect to get more money from endorsement deals with continued success. In my opinion, Josh Allen is going to face some commercial limitations while playing in Buffalo even if he were to win Superbowl MVP (and maybe also outside of Buffalo). - There may have been reasons Brady considered other options to be EXTREMELY undesirable. It's no secret, for example, that some players may sign for a bit less with a winning organization vs a losing organization. - It wasn't his second contract, was it? I believe he was already quite wealthy. Josh Allen is coming off of his first rookie contract and needs to make $$$ on his next contract to guarantee maximum earnings (in case of injury). Waiting to get paid later is almost always a bad move.
  4. If you are working for a for-profit company (not a nonprofit/charity), in which you had no financial interest or ownership, would you take an employer-friendly compensation package?
  5. In this case we can at least say our team didn't cause the injury. Unfortunately, Lamar Jackson also got concussed playing us on a clean hit - however, we were ahead in the game and might have gotten another 2 points (and the ball) if he had tucked it and protected instead of throwing.
  6. Well, this was not the prettiest win, but let's give props to the Bills defense for their great play tonight.
  7. He was about to get hit when he threw to avoid a safety. As a result he was not able to really protect himself and hit his head. This was all sparked by a snap going over his head. It was not a dirty hit and no one was near his head... but bad luck. I want us to win but this really takes a little bit of the fun out of it for me.
  8. We got 3-4 yards when we ran. How do we know they can't run?
  9. The swirling winds of Bills (Rich) Stadium strike again!
  10. Ok so how can you run play action if you never run the ball or even line up with a RB?
  11. Well, the only thing I can say is, the Jets got better. They went from Gase to Saleh. Pretty big leap even if he turns out mediocre as a HC.
  12. For sure. But hopefully he will be a bit more recovered next week.
  13. Love the trust in the kicker in a high pressure situation.
  14. But how many offensive plays, really?
  15. Normally this kind of TOP would gas the defense. But they are running such a slow offense, we may not tire as much.
  16. Seems like we must be setting up the pass with the threat of Josh's running. Also, I think Brown is not entirely back to form.
  17. If they score, we should avoid running back the KO. Take the 25.
