I'm late to the party because I was stuck at work all day but here's my two cents. I think Schefter got it from a source he trusts that Cowher was staying with CBS. Likely either the source came back and said it wasn't such a sure thing or he got it from another source or sources that it wasn't such a sure thing, so he cautioned with the "anything can change" caveat. Schefter doesn't want to throw his source under the bus but at the same time doesn't want to look dead wrong if it is inaccurate. My take on the whole thing is while Bill Cowher may or may not seriously consider the Bills job however I find it far-fetched that he has made up his mind on whether or not he wants to coach or not next year. For weeks we've heard that he won't talk about anything until the season ends. And then a single day after the season ends he is deciding that he doesn't want to coach. I would have believed the report far more if it simply said that he had decided to take himself out of the running for the Bills job rather than that he out and out won't be back next year. Can't see that being the case.

Or he is just P.O.'ed that his scoop was disputed by the Bills.

Don't underscore the coaching aspect of it though...some of these guys could be shades better with coaching. Also Maybin is a youngster and is still learning to play the game.

I see a lot of McCargo mentions...would moving to a 3-4 help him as he probably is the only DT besides maybe Johnson on the roster who might fit on the end in a 3-4.

I think that you are underscoring the fact that Holmgren may just want an ABM-type coach to take over. ABM obviously standing for Anyone But Mangini.

Yeah, if he didn't blow off virtually every other candidate there is I might disagree but it looks like a lot of smoke and mirrors, if anything at all going on there. It seems like the Shanahan and Cowher stories both broke from their camp so the Bills are being very tight lipped on their end and Shanny and Cowher are such big names it was inevitable that news of them meeting the Bills would get out. They had to have at least sent out feelers to other candidates, likely some of the people from Carucci's report.

I mostly agree with this sentiment accept I can't get behind the last part. T.O. is owed no apology. He knew exactly what he was getting into. This year was an audition. He used Buffalo just as much as Buffalo used him when he signed here.

I think Donte looks as good as he has in his whole career playing FS this season. He had a few strong games. That said Byrd is clearly better and Whitner has no other place on this team because he's crap at both strong safety and the nickel. Here's hoping that another team noticed his free safety play and will take a flier on him in a trade. If we got a 6 for Ko we could probably get a 4th for Donte.

I agree that Carucci is a guy we should listen too, especially when talking about the Bills but my God, if this report is correct than Perry Fewell is the only guy interviewing for the job. This can't be even close to accurate, it's all over the map. I have a feeling that the Bills are being tight lipped about it and it is hard to get info.
