So just found out my Fiance has been cheating on me
Steely Dan replied to Stl Bills's topic in Off the Wall Archives
Smart man. If you had believed that I'd suggest you get your noggin examined. If she had admitted it when he first approached her you may be right but the fact she denied it so many times says, to me, to say adios. And his wife. BA DUM BUM Ptsch! Is bunting to break up a no-hitter a violation of baseball's unwritten rules? Palmer: "Heck, I did it in Little League against [a kid] because he was going to strike out 18 out of 18. I pitched a no-hitter and [the Orioles] scored eight runs, but it might be the appropriate play. It's part of the game. Plus, if a guy can bunt, I usually want my infielders playing in to defend the bunt anyway.'' Blyleven: "Your goal as a hitter is to get on. And if the third baseman is playing back and letting you lay down a bunt, I don't have a problem with that even if it's late in a no-hitter. Their goal is to try to win the game -- not to help a guy get a no-hitter.'' Gossage: "I never took offense to that. Nolan Ryan used to take offense to guys trying to bunt off him. Nolan used to give guys his so-called 'bow tie.' I just figured it's part of a hitter's job. And I was a guy you could bunt on, because I couldn't field anything on the third-base side. "Usually a no-hitter is a tight ballgame, and they're trying to beat you. You need baserunners, and I can't blame the opposition for trying to get on base. If the game is out of reach, then it's a different story. I would take offense to that. I'd drill the SOB. 'If you want to get on base, here, I'll put you on base.''' 'Nuff said. -

The NFL is a competitive league that is set up to make things as equitable as possible. Whether you want to believe it or not. The NKOTB analogy is lame. You're talking an artistic thing vs. a business. -
Brian Cushing-LB- Texans May. 10 - 5:23 pm et The Associated Press announced Monday that it will conduct a re-vote for the 2009 Defensive Player of the Year award, citing previous winner Brian Cushing's violation of the NFL's policy on PEDs. Cushing is eligible in the re-vote, but he's not likely to win. His All-Pro status is also in danger of being stripped, as the AP will re-vote for one of its outside linebacker positions. Though Jairus Byrd finished second in Defensive ROY voting in the winter, we're betting third-place finisher Clay Matthews would edge him out considering Green Bay's finish to the season. Brian Orakpo, who had 11 sacks to Matthews' 10, may also be a serious contender. Source: Matt Maiocco on Twitter Related: Brian Orakpo, Clay Matthews, Jairus Byrd GIVE IT TO BYRD!!!

Dude that is so out of line in this thread. (I know it's his avatar but still) That royally sucks dude. Don't do anything rash and stupid. It's a good thing you found out now instead of after the wedding. You are, I hope, going to dump her and get back the engagement ring because if she did this once she'll probably do this again. I wasn't engaged but I was living with a chick who did that to me. Get out, get out now. -

Trying to get a man on base is trying to win. I don't care what the eff the pitcher has going. If bunts were so successful for getting on base you'd think the leadoff man in each inning would bunt every time. You try to win any way you can. Screw the opponent's records. When Barry Bonds was going for the home run record teams still pitched around him. I guess they just should have lobbed one to him if the game was a blowout. Kinda like your columns. Deal with it! -

There's some interesting stuff in the article but the report of a potential lockout is old news. DeMaurice Smith said that on a scale of 1-10 the chances of a lockout are a 14. Whether this turns into a lockout or a strike is the only question I think. I'm not sure that if the league declares a lockout if the players would still have to be paid. -
He probably only comes around when he has something he can report. If he has inside info on this it's probably too sensitive to discuss right now. These bits are from Rotoworld. Newsome is just trying to get the Bills back for the robbery they pulled on him with McGahee. Leodis McKelvin-DB- Bills May. 8 - 4:48 pm et Bills RCB Leodis McKelvin is reportedly unavailable for a potential Jared Gaither trade. Rumors of a Gaither-to-Buffalo trade persist. Adam Schefter shot down a report of a second-rounder going to Baltimore, and we've also seen one scenario that has Ashton Youboty going to the Ravens. McKelvin, however, is staying put. Source: Aaron Wilson on Twitter Related: Ravens I think the CB starving cRavens are trying to get McKelvin from Buffalo in a Gaither trade. If Buffalo trades McKelvin I'll be pissed. I'd rather go without Gaither than lose McKelvin. JMO. Jamon Meredith-T- Bills May. 10 - 1:56 pm et Jamon Meredith was the Bills' first-string left tackle at the team's initial post-draft minicamp. Meredith may be replaced when Demetrius Bell gets healthy, but this is one of the ugliest first-string offensive lines we've ever seen. Meredith's (8 career games, 4 career starts) bookend tackle was Nick Hennessey (1 game, 0 starts). The starting right guard was Jason Watkins (0 games), and the center was Christian Gaddis (2 games, 0 starts). Second-year LG Andy Levitre (16 games, 16 starts) was easily the most experienced starter. Only Levitre and Meredith were drafted. It's going to be a long year in Buffalo. Source: Buffalo News Related: Christian Gaddis, Andy Levitre, Nick Hennessey, Jason Watkins Did anyone tell these morons that it was a rookie camp? Here's what the Buffalo News article says; The Bills' offensive line units during the first part of Friday's minicamp practice consisted of, left to right: Jamon Meredith, Andy Levitre, Christian Gaddis, Jason Watkins and Nick Hennessey; and Ed Wang, Andre Ramsey, Sean Allen, Kyle Calloway and Cordaro Howard. Jorge Guerra and Kyle Mutcher were rotating into the units as well. Right now the starting lineup looks like Bell, Wood, Hangartner, Levitre, Green

I don't give a crap what the score is. In a football game, which is a timed event, I could see something similar being disrespectful but baseball is not a timed event and any team that rolls over, ever, is a sad team IMO. Throwing the game isn't a good character thing. Thanks! Whatever happened to the unwritten rule about you showing up in threads before checking with me? -

Link The closest the Rays got to a hit was Jason Bartlett’s liner to third leading off the game. Evan Longoria tried to bunt leading off the fifth, drawing boos from the small crowd. What are the odds of the other team making a hit in a game with four innings left? -
Mike and Mike were talking about an unwritten rule in baseball today. Evidently the rule is that a player should never try to bunt onto base during a no hit game for a pitcher. It's disrespectful for the other team to try and win?! WTF? They aren't supposed to try to win a game because the other team has a great game going? In football the only unwritten rule I know of is that you never intentionally injure an opponent. Baseball doesn't seem to have that rule given the number of times pitchers throw at guys. I can't imagine a QB going into the fourth quarter of a game without missing a pass and then getting pissed off because the CB's kept trying to force incompletions. That guy would be looked at like he had four chickens on his shoulders. Supposedly there are a lot more unwritten rules of the game that they didn't mention.

A lot of people here have said the same thing. Donte Whitner even twittered the idea. Since this is an Associated Press award I think it has a better chance of happening but I'm not gonna hold my breath. Maybe JW can tell us a little about what the thoughts on this are in the Associated Press offices.

Bills - Ravens agree on deal for Gaither?
Steely Dan replied to Wilson from Gamehendge's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It was written yesterday and is merely, I think, going off everything else you've read here from various sources. -
This hasn't been rumored anywhere except in my noggin; Buffalo gets Jared Gaither and WR's Demetrius Williams and Justin Harper and a sixth round pick. Ravens get Donte Whitner, Marshawn Lynch and and Ashton Youboty. Jared Gaither is an obvious need and I read somewhere that Gailey likes big fast receivers. Williams is 6'2" with decent speed (4.5 forty out of college) and Justin Harper is 6'3" with decent speed too. (4.56 forty coming out of college). Baltimore is loaded at receiver and can afford to lose them; The Baltimore Ravens are deeper at wide receiver this year than they have been in years, possibly ever, and they probably won't carry more than five receivers on their active roster entering the season, reports Jamison Hensley, of The Baltimore Sun. WRs Demetrius Williams, Marcus Smith and Justin Harper will have to fight to make the team's final roster. These are from the ESPN Insider on Gaither, Williams and Harper; Comment: Gaither is a young, ascending player and the Ravens' starting left tackle. He has tremendous size, particularly with his extreme height and overall length, to man the blind side. However, there are times when his high center of gravity is used against Gaither. Gaither remains a work in progress but is a punishing finisher in Baltimore's power blocking scheme. As he gains experience, his hand placement and understanding of his opponent will improve. Comment: He (Williams) is a good athlete with good size and speed. He has good lateral quickness to slip jams and a long stride to eat up ground once upfield. He accelerates well for his size and is flexible enough to sink his hips and get in and out of breaks. He shows good speed running vertically with the ability to stretch the defense. He can reduce the cushion quickly when defenders play off. He can also use his speed to get over the top versus man-to-man. He does a good job using stutter moves or bending routes and once the defender sits, he accelerates by him. He has good hands with long arms to adjust to the ball outside the frame. He will give good effort to make the tough catch, but he doesn't secure the ball quickly consistently. He needs to get stronger. He has good physical tools and athletic ability, but was plagued with injuries last year. This is on Harper; Comment: Harper is a long-strider who takes too long to get to full speed. His top-end speed is just ordinary as well. But, Harper does have great height and can go up and get the ball at its highest point. He also knows how to use his big frame to keep defenders off the ball. Getting off the line of scrimmage remains a problem that he must work on going forward. Williams has been a disappointment in Baltimore is coming off injuries Harper is going to have a hard time making their team and probably will in Buffalo but he has experience and despite ordinary speed can compete for a job in camp. The Bills need WR's and can afford to lose Whitner and Lynch. Marshawn Lynch makes sense for Baltimore because McGahee's salary jumps to 3.6 million this year and Lynch's salary is 885,000. Whitner makes sense because Ed Reed is coming off an injury is likely to miss at least part of training camp. Youboty makes sense because the cRavens need CB's. Whatcha think?
