Nix: Blockers Get Better With Spiller
Dr. K replied to symbiant's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Bill, with all due respect, maybe the reason the opinion isn't common is because it it is extremely unlikely, not to say wrong. You seem to have trouble imagining that anyone with any sense could possibly come to a different conclusion from you about the Bills needs or the best strategy for making the team better (I know, it's a common failing around here). So you resort to insisting that the Spiller choice was a result Ralph Wilson's call despite a great deal of evidence and reasoning to the contrary. Too many posters have quite respectfully demonstrated the opposite side of the case, that Nix and Gailey made this call, for good reasons--reasons that you don't agree with, but good nonetheless. You have been right over the years to emphasize the importance of drafting for the o-line, but it has become such a fixed idea for you that any other vision becomes a result of conspiracy or lunacy. -
...not "corp" or "core." You wouldn't talk about the "Marine Core," would you? [God help me, maybe you would. ] The receiving "corps." The linebacking "corps." I know it looks funny. But it's right.

My feelings exactly. Vastly overhyped team.

Nix: Blockers Get Better With Spiller
Dr. K replied to symbiant's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The Bills offense did not "hit a stone wall" in the fourth quarter against the Pats. In fact, they rose to the occasion after the Pats spent the first 5:49 of the fourth quarter driving for a field goal to make the score 17-13 Bills. After the ensuing kickoff, the Bills drove 62 yards in 14 plays, eating up 6:11 of the clock to score a touchdown to make it 24-13. The Bills offense did not touch the ball again until the Pats had scored their second touchdown after this, with only seconds left on the clock, to make the score 25-24. The Pats did not shut down the Bills offense in the fourth quarter of that game. If you are going to make an argument, at least REMEMBER WHAT HAPPENED. You are entitled to your own opinion, but you ARE NOT ENTITLED TO MAKE STUFF UP in order to support those opinions. -
I am very tired of the conventional wisdom about the Bills right now. The "what everybody knows" statements about them. The "if you don't agree with these statements you have drunk the cool-aid" cliches. (Incidentally, if I never hear the phrase "drunk the cool-aid" again, it will be okay with me. Just a suggestion, guys.) What is the conventional wisdom? Here's an example: "The Bills QBs are pathetic. They do nothing but check down (hold the ball too long, get sacked, etc. etc.). The team will not see even adequate QB play this season if they depend on Fitzpatrick, Brohm and Edwards. Just check downs and sacks and no passing yards. I understand how these things arise, and that there is reason for them. When was the last time any Bills QB passed for 300 yards in a game? Still, I think that opinion has become an unthinking twitch. I will hazard a prediction that, under Gailey and with Spiller in the backfield, with a defense that can at least occasionally get off the field, we will see good QB play this season from somebody. And I'll hazard another prediction that that somebody will be Trent Edwards.

Bill, All due respect, but you really haven't refuted Raimus's point about your stance. It's seems pretty clear that you did want the Bills to draft an OT at number 9 no matter that those tackles who were available at that point would have been reaches. Not to dispute your point about the Bills failing to draft o-line under the previous regime. I do recall them spending a number four pick on an OT who did not quite work out. What was his name? Wilkins? Willens? Willfong?

Round 5, Pick #140: OT Ed Wang - Virgina Tech
Dr. K replied to ax4782's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Jason Peters wasn't even drafted; he was a street free agent. And the Bills spent a #4 overall pick on Mike Williams. The draft is a crapshoot. -
Round 2, Pick #41: DT Torell Troup - Central Florida
Dr. K replied to SDS's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I don't know if Troup was a good pick, but I want to remind many people here who have praised John Butler's draft savvy that his parting gift to the Bills was probably the worst draft in the history of the franchise, the 2000 draft. No way can Nix do worse than Eric Flowers and the rest of that year's selections. -
That's what the world needs--another ex-football-playing right wing politician.

Right. I am unfair.

Fewell had them playing like a real football team, despite the shaky personnel and injuries. Whoever they end up with is not going to be better. IMHO.
-
I predict three to four interceptions. The team has too many problems, the O-line is in a shambles, Brohm has no experience running this offense and has not appeared to be a good QB even for the Packers. People are expecting way too much from this change of QBs. I see two ignominious losses in these last two games.

If Rush was buying our Bills instead of the Rams...

That's what we need--a fat racist blowhard who thinks he's ordained by God running the team. Sounds like a formula for success. -

Great avatar! Even the ancient Greeks had Bills fans.

Um, so do we have a shot vs the Jets?

Reminds me of that scene in Dr Strangelove where George C. Scott as General Turgidson is asked whether the U.S. bomber has a chance to get through soviet air defenses and thereby trigger an atomic apocalypse driving the human race to extinction. "Have they got a chance?" he says. "Hell, YES!" -
I liked a lot of what I saw

You guys complaining about this post are sarcasm impaired. -
I watched most of the Tampa Bay-Dallas game on NFL Game Rewind, and the Bucks are nowhere near as bad as the score indicated. Their running game is truly scary, with four quality running backs, and their defense held their own against the Dallas run game and only failed on a number of deep balls in the secondary. If the Bills can't complete the deep pass, they may have trouble scoring. And if the Bills can't stop the TB runners, they will be worn out by the third quarter. I still look for a Bills win, but by no means will this be easy.
-
I was as depressed as anyone after the loss on Monday. I don't know what the Bills will do for the rest of the season. BUT....if T.O., Jackson, and Evans catch those third down passes they dropped that would have been first downs, and if Bell learns to do just what he did against the Pats while lining up six inches closer to the line of scrimmage, the Bills would have scored 35 points and blown out the Patriots. If they can correct these two simple things, all other things being equal, they will win a lot of games.

Just for comparison's sake, Marv Levy, before he came to Buffalo, was considered a very conservative coach offensively. I lived in Kansas City when he coached the Chiefs. He was most noted for running a three-back offense, staying primarily on the ground, avoiding anything that looked like high-octane football. When the Bills hired him, having seen what he was like with the Chiefs, I thought he would be as boring as you could imagine, a Woody Hayes style offense, three yards and a cloud of astroturf. Instead he hired Marchibroda, unleashed Kelly, and goes for the no-huddle, and they create one of the most explosive teams in NFL history. You could look it up. Not that Jauron will do this. Leopards seldom change their spots. But it does happen.

Dick Jauron is a better coach than...
Dr. K replied to FluffHead's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Whine whine whine. Yet another Dick Jauron sucks thread. Every now and then I drop in to see if anyone here is writing anything worth reading. Nope. -
I always hated all that "meathead" talk about Mularkey. I also remember how good the Bills were on their opening possessions under Mularkey. It seemed that whenever they were scripted they played with purpose and efficiency. He might have worked out in Buffalo, but the situation at the end of that second season wasn't good for him. And Bills fans have not been in the mood to excuse any mistakes for some time now.

John Harbaugh smacks down Bills chances...

We have disagreed about a lot of things, but not about this.
