  1. I know very little about genetically modified foods, at least with regard to modifications made in laboratories, but I do know that we've been doing essentially the same thing for thousands of years via techniques such as cross-pollination. I also know that genetically modifying foods such as grains, soy beans, etc are done to obtain higher crop yields. Genetically engineering plants so that they grow with pesticides built-in admittedly sounds scarey, but people such as myself don't have enough of a familiarity with the science to actually know if there are health-related ramifications from long-term consumption of these foods. People fear what they don't know, and it doesn't take much to inspire them to take up their pitchforks and torches and storm the castle.
  2. Or pens, phones, and onesies.
  3. Can't argue with that!
  4. I strongly disagree with that.
  5. According to your chart, you could either be all things to everybody, or not a damned thing to anybody.
  6. Same happened with me. See the link below. You can watch both episodes online: http://www.fox.com/watch/607308867569/7756658688
  7. Economic Left/Right: 6.13 Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -4.72
  8. Póg mo thóin, amadan.
  9. I liked it. Who expects a show that ended 13-14 years ago to start up again with a bang? I liked that they took their time bringing the characters back in, giving us a look at what they've been doing these past few years. I was glad to see Skinner was in it, and the final scene made the buildup completely worthwhile. I'm looking forward to seeing more.
  10. And you won't see it increase above 9% any time soon. T. Boone Pickens has lost his shirt investing in wind farms, and with the price of oil as low as it is, wind is becoming too expensive to continue investing in it right now.
  11. Well then, it would be the first thing in nearly eight years that we actually did pay for.
  12. He was the father of two friends of mine from high school. He also came up with the slogan for the Your Host restaurant chain: How's that for value?
  13. Nobody can follow along with your arguments, so in that sense I'm no different than anyone with a rational mentality. And I'm not angry at all, just amazed at your persistent willingness to maintain a staggering level of ignorance.
  14. I play Halo. Unlimited anything won't change my game. I'll die quickly.
  15. Your point of view is not that of a liberal. It's that of an apparent partisan and a statist, intentionally stubborn and either incapable or unwilling to open up his mind.
  16. Not even the pajama boy technique can defend against a blunder like this, but I'm sure it will be tried eventually.
  17. Perhaps I should have listed "delusions of adequacy" in my earlier post.
  18. I have no idea about that, other than to allow for new types of retirement accounts where people trying to retire won't get reamed upon withdrawing their savings. I understand that any kind of major change in taxation will open up at least a few cans of worms, but I'm also confident that any such issues can be addressed.
  19. You know what I'm talking about. It's not just in this thread, but pretty much any thread in which you participate. Only a fool enters into debate and never learns anything from the exchange. Unlike you, I readily admit to learning quite a bit from the exchanges here, especially in terms of history and economics. That's why I rarely contribute to either topic. Debate is a crucible in which bad logic goes to die. Your technique ignores this - for you, it's all about trying to be right, even to the point that you abandon any semblance of logic in an effort to keep the argument going. That undermines your position, and I used to be amazed that you don't see that. Now I've come to the conclusion that I stated above - with you, it's not about exchanging ideas or learning anything, it's all about having the last word. The pajama boy technique - the smug satisfaction of the oblivious, with barriers solidly in place to prevent any actual growth or learning.
  20. It's interesting that you say that. I don't have much personal debt at all, and am hoping to retire in 9 or 10 years, and was just thinking that I would take the increase in take-home pay and throw it all into my retirement. That would make such a huge difference in my own situation, I can't begin to say how much I would support it. Even with the increase in cost on the consumption side, if I could retain 90% of the income gained through a bigger paycheck, I would have a lot less to worry about.
  21. I'm all for a consumption tax. I like the idea of taxation being based on behavior, and not just because you earn money. I have no credentials in economics so I will defer to others, but I would assume that the increase in take-home wages for so many people would spur spending across the board and bolster the economy. I also like the added benefit of turning pimps, thieves, dealers, etc into taxpayers.
  22. His entire purpose is to simply keep arguing until nobody wants to argue anymore, then declare himself winner. That's the pajama boy technique. It doesn't matter what you say, if you contradict yourself, or have nothing to offer except feces references. You can prove someone wrong over and over, but if they adopt the pajama boy technique, any effort on your part will do nothing more than waste your time and provide him entertainment. The truly pathetic thing in all this is that in setting up a wall of pure idiotic stubbornness, he won't ever learn a single thing.
  23. I actually met the man who is credited with coming up with that slogan.
