  1. Wow. This is the sort of thing that ought to be plastered across major news outlets. The level of corruption across our entire government is absolutely sickening, and the lack of accountability when something is uncovered is even worse.
  2. I actually would enjoy watching a cage-match brass knuckle fight between Chris Christie and Nancy Pelosi.
  3. I'll go with Paul Ryan vs Elizabeth Warren. Both are articulate, and are solid representatives of their parties' fundamental values.
  4. You know, the usual - wealthy people are supposed to get reamed on their taxes. It's the socialist way.
  5. Oh, no - I was just being sarcastic. Those are actually three of my all-time favorite movies - the stories all kind of suck (well, Frankenstein isn't really so bad story-wise. It just has a weak ending), but Karloff is the archetype for both Frankenstein and The Mummy, as is Lugosi for Dracula. Colin Clive. Edward Van Sloane. Dwight Frye. Black and white with a scratchy sound track. Tom @$#&ing Cruise???? Are you #@%&ing kidding me???? Ugh....
  6. So what you're saying is that it's only a matter of time before we see the release of "The Husband of Frankenstein"?
  7. Banking is one of the things that I know least about, so please bear with me on this. If a bank shouldn't be allowed to go under, what is there to keep it from conducting business however it pleases, knowing that it's insulated from failure by government support? I understand that the consequences of a bank failing can be catastrophic, but shouldn't they operate under the same market and economic rules that other businesses do?
  8. That's an accurate description of audio - a lot of people I know are convinced that digital recording is superior, but they base that claim on the ease in which the recorded audio can be manipulated, seemingly oblivious to the fact that if you get a good take on tape, all you really need to do is mix it. Like I said before - I don't know so much about photography, but your comparison between silver particles and pixels makes sense. Thanks
  9. There was a time when being a doctor was a vocation, and a medical practice was a business. If I had to say what I think might be a possible alternative to what we have, I'd start by peeling back the layers of legal red tape and regulation that appears to be weighing down the industry. Health care is not a system, as so many people seem to regard it, and I believe it can't be treated as if it was akin to a power grid or a telecommunication network. That's just what I think - I'll admit that I'm not smart enough to give you a good answer, but I don't believe continued government involvement will do anything but make it worse than it has already become. No, it's not.
  10. I'm no expert, but I can't see anything except that the email account Hillary used appears to be a private one.
  11. It's a digital signal, but it's broadcast on an analog carrier wave.
  12. I can't imagine why he wouldn't want to debate her, but I can certainly see it the other way around. She's got so much baggage right now that even if she was debating McCain or Romney, she'd still stand to get hammered. I'd wager that Trump would debate her every day from now until the election if he could.
  13. I remember that album - in fact, I believe the male voice from the Olympic bit was John Belushi. There was also a very funny "save the whales before they blast themselves into extinction", and also Bill Murray as the titular voice in Dostoevsky's "The Idiot" (everybody get out of here, there's a lobster loose....")
  14. I remember that well, but I had no idea that was Bill Murray as the bass player!
  15. On the surface you might say that the ACA is working great if there are people who are getting coverage that hadn't been able to receive it before, but how good can it ultimately be if companies like Blue Cross/Blue Shield and United Health Care are bailing from it due to losses? It doesn't matter what's being provided for low income Americans if the cost of maintaining it will bankrupt the providers.
  16. Doesn't that seem to justify my comparison then? If audio is more accurately captured using analog media, isn't that comparable to your description of silver particles vs pixels?
  17. Man, look at that wicked witch of the west pose - she looks like she's about to say "I'll get you, my pretty - and your little dog, too!"
  18. This seemed the most appropriate thread for this - from our friends at Bad Lip Reading:
  19. I don't know anything about film or photography, so I can't disagree with anything you're saying here. A friend of mine is a photographer, and he frequently argues that traditional photography yields a better picture than do digital cameras, but I've never heard him effectively say why.
  20. That one goes into red alert mode too.
