No it wouldn't - roads would be worse because there would be less money coming in from speeding tickets. Less cops, less maintenance, less whatever that money goes for. I was pulled over for going 80 in a 65 (I was really going 85....), and had to pay ~$180 in Minnesota about 5-6 years ago. I was also pulled over for going 75 in a 65 (and I was only going 68....) and had to pay about $150 if I recall. Only two times I've been pulled over.

I love stories like this. I have a similar story -- a few years ago someone broke into my grandmother's house (she lives on 20th Street in Niagara Falls) while she was gardening. She was around 80 years old at the time and is a feisty Italian woman. Well, she comes inside from gardening, hears someone in the house, so grabs her favorite knife from the kitchen. She ends up cornering the punk and stabbing him in the shoulder. He shoves her to the ground and runs out of the house. The cops pick him up a short time later. My grandmother's response? She was upset that the police confiscated the knife to use as evidence in the case. "That was my favorite knife!"

Of course the RIAA tried to stop that a decade or so ago as well... I believe that's where the contempt for them as an organization began.

No, but it is legal for you to make a copy of a CD you purchase for YOURSELF. You just have to delete those files if you give the CD away to someone else. I have no idea how the RIAA software would be able to figure any of that out. But it doesn't matter, since they like to "shoot first and ask questions later."

You're ok with border police seizing your electronics, "just in case?" You're ok with some corporation spying on your computer and deleting flies off of your computer that they deem to be violating their copyright (despite the fact that there's no way to be 100% sure -- so your files could be deleted for pretty much any reason)? For that matter, you're ok with a corporation having access to everything on your computer....??? Wow....

Yeah... I'm also very concerned as the USPS website says the only services purchased were "Delivery confirmation." He didn't purchase insurance nor did he purchase signature required according to the site... Since I was required by eBay to purchase those services to ship it to him, you'd think the opposite would be true as well. On the other hand, if it gets lost I'd say I'm off the hook since there would be no confirmation that Ir received it. Fingers crossed that it goes fine.

My roommate in college was a born again Christian. In the school paper, right before Christmas break, there were a couple of off-color Christian jokes. One of them was: Jesus walks into a hotel, slaps down four nails, and asks, "Can you put me up for the night?" My roommate FLIPPED OUT after reading that, saying that Satan was descending on the campus and that we all needed to wage a holy war to protect Fredonia, including summoning angels and crap I didn't quite understand. Of course this guy also said he had such a great experience at church one time that he started speaking in tongues.... The difference is that he was waging a war on Satan, not threatening to kill the people at the newspaper. But the sentiment is similar.

FYI - I accepted the return the other day. Guy shipped it to me today, so we'll see what happens... He shipped it via USPS, which annoyed me a bit at first, but then I realized I wouldn't have to take off work - I could go to the post office to pick it up - so that ends up being cool. Does anyone know if the buyer is required to have signature confirmation like I was when sending it to him? I hope he did -- I don't want the scanner sitting on my front step all day....
