  1. Venus de Milo Josh Reed look-a-like
  2. I'm sorry, I just like the '73 threads...there's a reason the Packers, Raiders, Steelers, Yankees, Habs, and Celtics wear the same uni year after year: the classic look never goes out of style. Best Bills uniform...ever
  3. Since when was JFK a CVN? "...the Kitty Hawk looked much better for its age than the JFK" That's a reason to scrap the JFK? It doesn't "look" good? I spent four years on the JFK, '76-'80...I know it was 25 years ago but it was a damn fine ship and we were the most decorated carrier in the Navy during the time period. Years pass and Big Jack may have had some problems, but they just finished a deployment where thousands of sorties over Iraq were conducted...and did a fine job. If it's time for JFK to go, so be it. But I hope Rummy and the boys take a good long look at what the Kennedy can bring to the table, both now and in the near future.
  4. The "rumor" I heard is that Danny W pulled out because of the Flutie fiasco...that Wegman was very fond of DF, both personally and finacially (remember "Flutie's Favorite Sub?). It's too bad that there's ill-blood between Wegmans and the Bills, because they are both a natural fit for each other...and because when Ralph goes to that great sky box way above the stadium named after him, Danny W will be one of the locals looked to to keep the team in WNY.
  5. And for all the pi$$ing and moaning about so many Steeler fans at RWS last Sunday, there were easily 20,000 Bills fans in Cleveland that day, me included. I'll never forget, during the final Bills drive, OJ, doing the game for NBC, was standing in the corner of the end zone the Bills were driving toward, whipping the Bills fans into a frenzy. And I think he had some very expensive shoes on...
  6. They're about seven players and a uniform switch to the 1973 vintage threads away.... Best Bills uni ever
  7. Was that the game where NFL Films had Lou Saban miked? I remember seeing a clip on "The Super Seventies," which BTW is a great NFL Films piece, where Nottingham (I think) rumbles up the middle for a big gainer and Saban yells, "GOD ALMIGHTY!!! WHY DO WE DO THAT?!?!" Before the game, Saban addresses the Bills in the locker room: "You can get it done...you can get it done...what's more ya GOTTA get it done!" From the looks of the uniforms, it's a 1974 game in Miami...I'm thinking the Toomay game might have been 1975?
  8. Opening day: Clements goes for the INT rather than just knock the ball down on a fourth and forever play. Yesterday: Josh Reed's penalty cost Bills a first down inside the 10 yard line, when a TD would have put Buffalo up by eight (but in defense of Reed, I thought the call was horse hockey...he was 10 yards away from the play...how many times is this penalty even called?). A season full of hope drowned on two dumb plays...
  9. And the Post reports she's asked MLB for "a few more months" to find the private financing. Sure, Ms. Cropp, take all the time you need. You've been an honest broker throughout, take as much time as you like. Private financing is a good idea...but she helped broker the deal she now wants to withdraw. She's a dope. Plain and simple. If she didn't like the deal in September, which is the same deal in December, then why did Ms. C climb the podium and start singing "Take me out to the ballgame?" She's looking for name ID, so she can primary Mayor Tony next time around. This city will soon be run by Ms. Cropp and her chief deputy, Marion Barry. God bless us, everyone.
  10. I'd rather they go to Vegas...jeeziz, getting out to a stadium near Dulles will be more difficult than getting to B'more. What pi$$es me off most about Cropp is that she was in on the deal...she was screaming her lungs out at the Union Station event in September where it was announced the team was coming here. Same goes for Carole Schwartz. Both singing "Take me out to the ball game" and posing for the press. Then, 10:30 Tuesday night, she makes like Dean Wormer and drops the big one. The picture on the front page of yesterday's Post should win a Pulitzer. Jack Evans' reaction is priceless. This city is a joke. Need more proof? Repeat after me: "Councilman-elect Marion Barry." Money quote: "This city is pathologically averse to change, captive to deep anxieties about race, class and the urban-suburban and District-federal divides. Baseball was an opportunity to rise above those strains, to reach for world-class status, to lure suburbanites back into a view of Washington as the center, a place of pride." Wash Post
  11. Well, you've got the Prince William Cannons. Us city folk (or close to it) don't got nuthin' And I thought you never met a tax you didn't like?
  12. Drop Linda Cropp Not a bad idea...time to get rid of this dope.
  13. Jeeziz, JK Cooke wanted to build here with his own $$$ and they showed him maps of VA and MD...and they wonder why Congress keeps a tab on these guys. Local media seems bent and some are blaming Tony W...Fox 5 news broke the news during their newscast about 10:30 last night, that's where I first heard it. The talking heads showed little of no surprise, kinda like they knew Cropp was up to no good. Nats cancelled unveiling their new uniforms at Union Station today. It's a damn shame.
  14. It's one big **** sandwich and we all have to take a bite... I should have waited to get the hat...rat bastards city council. Cropp just out to make a name for herself. Christ, I never heard of Cropp before this whole mess, and I live here. And Mayor Tony's lack of personal skills didn't help. Oh well...it was just too good to be true. Thanks for the coal in the stocking, Cropp!
  15. The classic Honeymooners, where Ralph thinks he's bought Alice a very rare Japanese jewelry box...and it turns out a friend of hers gets her one from the dime store. The best part is at the end, Gleason and crew step out of character to wish everyone a Merry Christmas.
  16. I got a subscription to the "Jelly of the Month Club." It's the gift that keeps on giving the whole year long.
  17. What, no Charlotte Barbie? I'll take a lame stab: "This Barbie can only be bought in the gift store of the Spirit of Ontario, so it is very unlikely you'll find one. The Charlotte Barbie comes with an Abbotts Custard t-shirt and an LDR Char-Pit apron. The Charlotte Barbie comes with an 1979 rusted-out Dodge Duster, whose wheels are never in alignment after traveling the pot-hole-ridden minefield which is Lake Avenue."
  18. The most recent telecasts, filled with more commercials of course, often omit the segment about elf practice, where all the elves practice their Christmas song...Elf leader: "And remember, it's for Santa." Also, in recent telecasts of "It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown," the segment where Lucy pulls the football up from a place-kicking Charlie Brown, a Peanuts classic, has lost out to more commercials... I watch too much TV....
  19. Have to also go with the 1989 opener in Miami, even though I was at the 1980 opener in Buffalo and the 1995 playoff game... Couple of years ago, my account of the 1989 game, sent to buffalobills.com, won me an autographed box of Kelly Krunch! BTW, is that still on the shelves in WNY or was it a one-time thing?
  20. Do you still have your ticket stubs from the last Jeffs' game? And how would you compare the Edgeton Park fans with those at RWS?
  21. Browns/Saints WR in the early '70s: Jubilee Dunbar Jets punt returner late '60s, early '70s: Mike Battle Hate to say it, but another Jet from the same era: Chris Farasopoulos
  22. And don't forget making a stop on the last drive against the Jets in NJ...then we would be talking 8-3.
  23. It's on my Christmas Wish List... A friend of mine has it, and sez it's a 'must have.' I have volumes I-IV on CD...I'm wondering what could be on Volume V? Hope Santa brings it so I can find out.
  24. The march-on of Cadets and Midshipmen prior to the Army-Navy game. If this doesn't get you fired up, the pilot light is OUT!
  25. Go Navy! Going to the Emerald (?) Bowl in San Francisco. They've have been a real joy to follow this year...good senior leadership and a plethora of teamwork on both sides of the ball. Sure it's not the Big Ten or SEC, but it's fun. Navy home games offer a great tailgating experience also. I suggest if anyone has the chance, get to a Navy homegame. Most importantly, Army is dead meat in two weeks.
