  1. Also, Spacek is a left-handed shot (same as McKee), so you figure that he will be paired with Numminen or Khalinin. Whoever Spacek is not paired with will be paired with Campbell. This signing, coupled with the Numminen re-signing, makes me feel VERY GOOD about next year's team.
  2. Talked to my friend who is an Oilers fan. He stated that we will be very happy with this signing! Way to go Darcy! You knew something had to be brewing.
  3. Thank you Swordsmen! Thank you for the grit, determination, dedication, and class. Thank you for playing hurt, thank you for playing hard (every shift), thank you for not questioning your coach's decisions, thank you for not complaining about your salaries, thank you for playing the game because you just love playing the damn game! Thank you for bringing some excitement to this city. Thank you for water cooler talk that was not American Idol. Thank you, thank you, thank you! Thank you Chris (for unselfish leadership), thank you Danny (for that OT goal in Game 6 - what a party afterwards), thank you Max (for keeping your head up and passing the puck this year), thank you Jay (come back next year please), thank you Ryan (my gosh, are you good!), thank you Soupy (thank you for the checks!), thank you Mike (there was never a more consistent player the whole year), thank you Henrik (my gosh, I'm not sure that you can play any better), thank you Teppo (for having the guts to log 5 minutes of ice team with half a leg), thank you Marty (for being a class act when asked to be #2), etc, etc, etc. Best of luck next year Sabres - you truly are every thing that a TEAM should be.
  4. BINGO! This is exactly what everyone keeps missing. In any of these "expert" opinions, they are all assuming that no one would have moved ahead of the Bills (at pick 15 with the trade) to take Whitner. There are so many variables in this equation. These hack writers are all trying to solve for "x", yet they fail to realize that they have a polynomial equation in front of them! Can we all just move on already? The draft is done...now let these kids perform!
  5. But, but, but, but, but....Marv blew it...Mort and Clayton said so...
  6. The Sens have definitely become my most hated rival for the Sabres. I can't stand them! Although I have to say that if I had the chance to get Daniel Alfreddson on the Sabres, I would do it in a heartbeat. Just when you thought the Sabres couldn't pull another rabbit out of the hat, they do it again. This team is unbelieveable...they never give up...someone said it yesterday, even if they are down 2 or 3 goals, they still believe they can come back and win...and sometimes they do! This team may be more exciting than the Stanley Cup team from a few years back. And those Canadian announcers can bite my bum! What a bunch of homers.
  7. Ok, here's my theory on the possible Bills - Eagles trade in the first round: (1) From the draft value chart, the jump up from 14 (Eagles pick) to 8 (Bills pick) is a difference of 400 points. The Eagles pick in the 2nd round (#45 overall) is worth 450 points. If this were to happen, I'm sure the Eagles are going to try and pull something more from the Bills to make it "equitable". Heck, so we throw in the 5th round pick we got for Moulds (value of 43 points) and we'll call it a deal. (2) The deal only happens if D'Brick is off the board. If D'Brick is on the board at #8, the Bills should be running to Tags with their selection in the first 30 seconds that they are on the clock. (3) If D'Brick is off the board, I think the Bills must be targeting Winston Justice...hence the possible trade down with Philly. Levy stated that the guy they have been targeting should be available 4-5 picks later than where they are picking. The only gamble in this scenario is that Baltimore may snag Justice with the 13th pick. However, the Ravens are hurting for picks themselves, so they themselves may be looking to trade down as well and gather up more picks. (4) If this is their plan (i.e., trade down to select Justice), I also give credence to the rumor that the Bills are looking to pull themselves into the bottom of the first round...with their sites set on John McCargo, DT. This would probably cost them our 2nd round pick and one of our 3rd round picks. So, if all is said and done, here is what happens - Bills get Justice and McCargo in Round 1, give up their own pick in the 2nd round but pick up the Eagles 2nd round pick in the process, and give up one of their 3rd round picks. I would love to see this happen. Ok, guys, go ahead and start flaming me!
  8. Refer to some of my previous posts re. St Louis. Specifically, I have said that they are our ideal trading partner. Bottom line is that they are ahead of Baltimore and we cannot afford to trade down past Baltmore's pick at 13 since the Ravens have similar pressing needs as the Bills. Trading with the Rams would give the most bang for the buck...and we would probably still have our choice of need-specific players (i.e., Bunkley or Justice). To trade with them, they would probably have to give up at least a 3rd round pick + a 6th round pick for the jump up to #8. Alternatively, we could do the swap of 1st round picks, throw in our 2nd pick in the 3rd round, and then ask for their 2nd round pick in return.
  9. I think this is more smoke and mirrors than anything else. Teams are just posturing, sending out false reports, etc. to keep other teams off the scent. Happens every year. Some teams are just better at it than others (Cf. New England). I have said all along that the surprise pick in the Top 10 may be Ngata to the Raiders at #7. The Raiders play in the best running division in football - they have to face Tomlinson twice a year, Priest Holmes/Larry Johnson twice a year, and whoever Mike Shanahan starts twice a year. In that division it is probably truer than in any other division, that you need to be able to stop the run. Ngata would be able to help the Raiders d-line in that capacity.
  10. No, a league like the NBA would have caved.
  11. On the contrary, I think the Broncos are stockpiling picks in a very deep, talent rich draft. They are taking the ol' Jimmy Johnson approach to the draft...and all the power to them! They now own 7 picks in the first 4 rounds - pick #s 15, 37, 61, 68, 119, 126, and 130. They should be able to built one hell of a solid core with those selections! Compare their strategy to the Washington Deadskins - they only have ONE PICK in the first four rounds of this draft - pick #53. Two totally different strategies - love what the Broncos have done so far - and the draft hasn't even started yet!
  12. Yes, Polian and Wilson were never the best of friends and eventually the two did not care for each other. BIG REALITY CHECK --> Happens in business all the time! Wilson and Polian have both gotten over it. As for Butler, as I seem to recall, Butler forced his own hand out of town. Didn't Wilson try to extend his contract before Butler ran off to San Diego with AJ Smith? As for TD, he dug his own grave. This was never more apparent than last year. Remember it was Wilson that stepped in to resolve the Moulds - Mularkey mess. That should have been Donahoe's job to resolve. Management 101. If you can't resolve that situation in house, you don't deserve to be in a management position, much less a GM in the NFL! Wilson ran off Mularkey? Are you kidding me? PLEASE! Mularkey was unable to manage Wilson's team. The Moulds situation, the Adams situation, calling out McGahee in the press, allowing a QB controvery to brew, etc. Let me say it again - ARE YOU KIDDING ME? Mularkey ran his own incompetent arse out of town! Ok, I'm done ranting...I'll switch to decaf now...
  13. Can't say that I would poo-poo that move. The Texans do have Dom Davis, so Reggie Bush could be considered somewhat of a luxury pick. However, since the Saints have expressed interest in Mario Williams, this could be just a smoke screen to try and somehow work a 1-2 swap with New Orleans and pick up an extra draft pick. This time of year is all about who can play poker the best!
  14. Additional comment on Point #3: If Vernon Davis is there, YOU HAVE TO TAKE HIM! Currently this team has no one to market the team around, no one for the fans to get excited about. The Bills need something to run with from a marketing angle. Davis is that guy. As much as Huff and Ngata are major needs for this team from a positional standpoint, Davis fills a major off-the-field need as well as an on-the-field need. Additional comment on Point #4: I could not agree more. It is becoming harder and harder to read through a good post lately. I am finding that more than 50% of the comments are either un-necessary or irrelevant to the topic. Additional comment on Point #5: My wife and I moved out of the area almost 15 years...and with the exception of one year (when my 2nd child was born at the beginning of September), we have made a committment to attend at least one home game per year. Some years we have been able to attend two games, and one year we were lucky enough to attend three games.
  15. So who is left in free agency for either line? The only decent offensive lineman that I believe that is still available is Tutan Reyes, who is a guard from Carolina.
  16. I agree on the pass rusher. I think we may see a defensive end on Day 1...possibly as early as Round 2...
  17. I have said all along that St Louis is our best trading partner. They are picking 11th and Baltimore is picking 13th. I believe that we cannot fall beneath Baltimore in the 1st round because the two teams share the same positional needs (i.e., offensive and defensive line help).
  18. It has been reported in several outlets that San Francisco has their sights set on Bing in the 2nd round. If that's true, he will not be there for the Bills in the 2nd. I still am set on taking Anthony Smith, the safety from Syracuse. Good kid, head screwed on straight. He should be there for us in the 4th round. In no particular order, I want to see the Day 1 picks be three linemen (either two o-line and one d-line...or two d-line and one o-line) and a defensive back.
  19. (1) I LOVE ANTHONY SMITH! If the Bills want him, they may have to take the plunge with him in the 4th round though. Living out here in CNY, I can tell you that he falls into the class of players that Marv appears to be building with. (2) Can anyone comment on Marcus McNeil from Auburn? Has anyone watched him play? Some draftniks have him rated the #2 tackle and Justice the #3 tackle.
  20. And the epitome of the awesome idea of moving Teague to center was watching him hike the ball OVER Drew Bledsoe's head...a 6'5" tall QB no less! Not attempting to get Teague back in the fold falls into Marv's plan of rebuilding this team with younger kids...
  21. And I just saw George Seifert at the airport... ENOUGH ALREADY!!!!!
  22. If we have a solid pool of money and there is no one to really bring in that will make a difference this year, can we re-do some exisiting contracts to pull money into this year...thereby creating more cap room in future years? Just a thought...
  23. Houston owns the first two picks in the 3rd round - their own (#65 overall) and New Orleans (#66 overall). If Marv could somehow manage to wrestle away one of those picks from the Texans, that would be outstanding! That would give us 5 picks on Day 1 in a very deep draft. Then we will be able to say hello to two new o-lineman, two new d-lineman, and one new defensive back after all is said and done on Saturday, April 29!
  24. Three points, just like my pastor uses on Sunday mornings: (1) I like him as well. He could play either tackle position for us depending on what the plans are for Peters. It would also allow us to move Gandy inside (which I think would work out very nicely). (2) I would not take him at #8. I would definitely try to slide down a little. I might even take less in the deal to slide down if I felt strongly that he was still going to be on the board at the point we fall to. (3) Given some off the field issues that he has had, he does not seem like a Marv pick. But, if they did their homework and everyone feels comfortable, he is by far the #2 tackle in this draft. And I believe that he and Ferguson are the only Tier 1 tackles in this draft.
  25. Gee, now there's a guess that's really going out on a limb! Can everyone just stop posting meaningless topics on the Moulds situation until something is done. Thank you! Now, I'll go back to drinking my high-test coffee.....
