  1. Third, don't they already discuss it that much?

Actually, Ive heard almost no discussion of these issues during the games themselves, which makes me think that the people who say, I just want to watch football without all this social activism, are being disingenuous. All the talk about it happens during pregame, during the week, and on social media.

(Why do all the quotation marks keep disappearing?)

  2. It doesnt particularly make sense to me on the surface. Has he better described that possible context elsewhere? Its very easy to understand if pointed towards the players, but towards the league office it seems to be going over my head

MCNairs new rationalization makes no sense whatsoever. No one with half a brain would even give it a second thought. Its exactly like the laughable excuses that the guy gave for shooting that racist eye gesture at Yu Darvish the other night.
  3.

    @AdamSchefter

Texans plan group protest; options include kneeling, peeling Texans decal off helmet, raising fists, staying in locker room during anthem.

This is what the owners are most afraid of: unified, concerted action by the players. If its one or two players, they can be disciplined or intimidated, but if the team acts in unison, there is not much that can be done.

The only thing worth doing is not show up to the game.

    Why do you say that?
  4. So, behind closed doors.

But in no sense private or confidential

    now this post will either

    A) be ignored because they know they cannot win with you

    B) argue with you and get their ass kicked.

Eager to see the idiot who wants to try and argue you. It's not as easy to argue you because eyou actually argue while I just poke nests!

Yeah, hard to argue with genius-level Breitbart talking points like that.
  5. Yoir spreading 24.5M over two years now.

My Point is dareus could have been cut or traded 2018 offseason before his guarantee kicked in for exactly what they have in dead money now in 2018 and beyond and Still had a top end talent in their DT rotation for their playoff push in 2017

Not sure what else there is to say about this. McDermott and Beane obviously disagree with your assessment that Dareus is a top end talent, or at least that his talent outweighs the headache he brings to the organization. I think Ill go with their assessment of the situation.
  6. In my line of work, I deal with a lot of disciplinary/HR issues (I have no onsite HR) and, at one time, nearly half of my staff of 60 was African American.

We had multiple issues with several employees, but there was one who was cleverly taking advantage of policies - in a way where it made it difficult to discipline her.

This employee is an African American female. One day, as I was discussing these issues with my supervisory team, I wanted to make a point -basically, "look, we know what she's doing, we know she's getting one over on us, and we know she's just a bad seed and we need to get her out of here."

On the tip of my tongue was the phrase, "we need to call a spade a spade." I stopped myself because I knew that those words could be twisted and used against me somehow.

That's sad. Similar to "letting the inmates run the asylum/prison, " it is a figure of speech that has ZERO racial undertones.

Most know that I'm one of the more left-leaning users on this site and I do believe there is an enormous race issue in this country - specifically impacting African Americans.

But come on ... this is complete bullshcit and an incredibly far, unnecessary, reach.

Let these idiots walk and void their contracts for job abandonment, I say.

This is a good post, but I think you might feel differently if you were a black male who grew up in the south, where black males have comprised a scandalously and disproportionately high percentage of the prison population and the wardens have been overwhelmingly white (not to mention the slave/plantation undertones of the comment). And of course the comment was made in a meeting held to discuss how to address the black players protests related to racial injustice.

At any rate, its not really up to you to decide what comments by McNair (a huge contributor to the Trump campaign) should bother DeAndre Hawkins. McNair is an idiot.

  7. Correct. I suppose it's up to the individual to decide if he simply didn't know the phrase or deliberately used 'prison' for 'asylum', and all the possible whathaveyou that entails.

Actually, I think the phrase is lunatics running the asylum, as in insane asylum. Obviously, what McNair meant to say, though, was slaves running the plantation. 😀
  8. Jaguars acquired DT Marcell Dareus from the Bills for a conditional 2018 sixth-round pick.

It's another aggressive move from a post-Doug Whaley regime that's traded away Sammy Watkins, Ronald Darby, and Reggie Ragland. Dareus fell out of favor in coach Sean McDermott's scheme, starting just three games and playing only 34 percent of snaps. He wasn't living up to his contract, and clashed with the coaching staff over off-field and work ethic concerns. This is essentially a salary dump for Dareus, who was still one of the better tackles in the league last season. Dareus reunites with Doug Marrone in Jacksonville and upgrades a defensive line that's struggled against the run. The Jaguars will assume the final three years and $49-plus million of Dareus' deal.

That last line is what I love the most about this trade!

If Im not mistaken, the Jags could cut him after this year, without having to pay out the rest of the deal or any cap consequences.
