Week 12 MNF: Seahawks at Eagles 8:15 on ESPN

I’ve never thought Wentz was very good, but he has regressed horribly to the point that he is now one of the worst QBs in football. Hangs on to the ball way too long. Pederson needs to sit him. -
I thought Marrone did too. Wanted to play “ground and pound”. Idiot.
-
Picking Leonard Fournette over Pat Mahomes and Deshaun Watson didn’t help, either...
-
It‘s a common problem: Teams often evaluate a college QB without considering the team around him. Mayfield is another example, and Mahomes and Herbert the flip side of that coin
-
Very good perspective here. Sure, the Bills goofed by not drafting Mahomes (seems silly to deny that), but they redeemed themselves pretty well when they took Allen the next year. And of course franchises like the Bears (trading up from 3 to 2 to draft Trubisky) and the Jags (drafting Fournette at 4 overall when they have needed a QB literally forever) opened themselves up to much greater criticism for passing on Mahomes...
-
Truly idiotic take. By that reasoning, we have no idea how any player would have turned out if drafted by a different team, so we might as well just give every GM a lifetime free-pass. We know for a fact that Mahomes is hands down the best QB in football and far and away the league MVP in his third season as a starter. No matter how Josh Allen turns out, it was a mistake not to draft Mahomes in 2017. In fairness, the Bills did make good use of the picks they got from KC to trade down. And there is also no doubt that other franchises missed the boat far more egregiously, like the Bears, who gave away a ton of picks to move up from 3 to 2 to pick Mitch Trubisky, and the forever QB-needy Jaguars, who drafted a running back at 4th overall that year. But it does not change the fact that it was a major blunder by the Bills and McDermott.

Herbert has also had to overcome awful coaching... -

Darnold was surrounded with plenty of talent at USC. He still stunk. I cannot understand why this guy was ever viewed as a good QB prospect. As I recall, he had a few good games as a redshirt freshman and people went crazy and ignored the rest of the body of work. That being said, it would not surprise me if some team is still dumb enough to give the Jets a 3rd round pick for him. -
I hate to break the news to you, but our offensive line is better than average, especially in pass pro. Quality o-linemen absolutely can be had in free agency. Our last three premium picks (first two rounds) have been linemen, and none have been difference-makers. Our last two 3rd round picks have been used on slow running backs who scare no one. We need to use our premium picks on offensive playmakers and probably a DB.

Isaiah Hodgins designated to return from IR

You mean he successfully turned the card in all seven times? 😄 But I do like Hodgkins and would love to see him get a shot. -
I’ve got news for you; the last two drafts have been “meat and potatoes” and there’s little to show for it...
-
Interesting point, and probably close to correct, although there seem to be teams with much higher hit rates at certain positions, like Pittsburgh with WRs. What sinks bad GMs is failing to land a franchise QB and misusing high draft picks on non-premium positions (those two flaws are often closely related). For example, the Giants and Jags, teams that are still looking for a franchise QB, recently used top 4 overall picks in RBs. Washington and the Jets have drafted a lot of good defensive players over the past five years, but it’s gotten them nowhere.

It was worse than the Saints no-call. And that was AFTER a video review! -
That’s three players out of 22 starters. It hardly disproves my point.
-
I’m still not seeing where you’re disagreeing with what I said—that minus JA, the Bills’ overall talent level is below average.
-
I’m not sure what your point is. I would acknowledge that the Bills have better WRs than they did in 2018, when that group was historically bad...Do you think that without Josh Allen this is a better than average NFL offense?
-
I actually think the Bills’ overall talent level is average at best. Josh Allen’s remarkable ascent to top-5 NFL QB has covered up some truly lousy drafting by Beane. If anything happens to JA, we are in Jets territory.

Did you know? (Bills-Bolts version)

I remember the 1998 fiasco, which was Ryan Leaf’s first win as an NFL QB. -
Meaningless. Same was true of Sam Darnold, and he blows. Just be thankful that the Dolphins picked an undersized, injury-prone QB who was handed the keys to an insanely talented Alabama offense.
-
Every week I’m more thankful that the Dolphins passed on Justin Herbert...

People who talk about all the amazing weapons Allen now has at his disposal are delusional. Yes, the WR group is far better than it has been, but it still lacks a consistent downfield threat, especially when Brown is hobbled. Combine this with the fact that we have no running game and no TE to speak of, and it makes Allen's performance even more remarkable. The Bills need to continue to add offensive weapons at every opportunity, just like the Chiefs do for Mahomes.

Hear me out: We could very well win out
