Games against the Browns and Bengals, no matter who they have at QB, are not easy. The Bills have lost three games against flat out bad teams (Jets, Pats and Broncos) and another one (to the Jags) where they were 6-point favorites.

And yet they’ve had a much harder schedule than the Bills to this point of the season.

Pittsburgh plays in the AFC North. They have NOT had a soft schedule. The Bills have had a much softer schedule.

That’s the gap between one of the worst coaches in the league and one of the best.

Honestly, I can’t recall a great catch by any Bills receiver this year. Not one.

McDermott richly deserves to be fired but, for all the reasons you’ve cited, it would just be too heavy of a lift for this organization right now. I do think that could change if the last five weeks of the season turn out to be a disaster…by the way, I think it would be possible for Beane to effectively fire McDermott, simply by recommending to Terry that they get a new coach. That would short-circuit some of the issues you've identified.

Someone upthread indicated that the Bills would still be stuck with the dead cap hit, just as the Raiders were in the Ruggs situation. I'm sure the team is thoroughly investigating all the ins and outs here.

It's been reported that there is a clause in Miller's contract that allows the Bills to void the remainder of his contract if he violates the league's personal conduct policy, but I'm not sure what sort of dead cap hit that would entail.

Every year there are bright young coordinators who become available for head coaching jobs and this year is no different. Not all of them succeed, of course, but the Bills would have the pick of the litter.
