I've read 2/3rds of the report so far and I'd agree with this. RI himself has some serious mental issues I suspect--he even alludes to them himself in some of the materials cited in the report. To me, the saddest parts of the report were the e-mails between JM and his parents. You have to remember that during most of this period he was a 22-23 year old kid, one who happened to be a bit different than the others on the team and line. I agree with the poster above, too, that despite his size, wealth, fame and education, he came across in those as the poor kid getting mercilessly picked on in middle school and not knowing what to do about it....

Now THAT is genius.... There really aren't too many any more in general, especially compared to years ago--when I was a student there in the mid-80's you (a) couldn't walk 3 blocks without seeing a homeless beggar and (b) with respect to GCT itself, pre-renovation it was a SCARY place. I've worked in midtown or downtown for 20 plus years now and the city's gotten a lot better in that regard. Not sure if the solution has actually been to help those folks or to simply keep them out of sight....

I agree--my ideal would be to either resign Byrd if he's asking for a reasonable contract and if he's not, then tag him, trade him for a decent pick and use the savings to pick up probably two decent (but not star quality) starters like a LG or LB. If we signed Delmas now, however, that really may tie our hands in trying to tag and trade Byrd, as potential trade partners would know we can't keep them both....

...in a cap move. Any chance he ends up back with Schwartz here? If so, good bye to Byrd? Personally, I may not have minded something like this if Byrd asked for too much and we were able to tag and trade him for a 2d before signing someone like Delmas--get a decent replacement, a draft pick and cap room to sign more decent players

I read recently that gay porn Google searches were found in roughly the same percentages in states that had far fewer "out" gay folks (ie, the deep South and Midwest) than other more "gay friendly" states (ie, NY and CA). What does that tell you? Perhaps that homosexuality is roughly constant across populations, even in very different social climes and levels of social acceptance? If so, wouldn't that argue for biology vs choice?

Good for him--that is courageously brave. Here's hoping that the society of the NFL has made (or makes) the strides it needs to to accept this. Not being much of a Twitter guy myself, I'm assuming that WEO's making up that J. Martin tweet for yuks (although that is what I've personally suspected since his whole mess started)....

Capote is well worth seeing, for his acting (the rest of the cast wasn't shabby either) and the writing. PSH went to my HS's rival and he was a year behind me. My best friend's older brother was PSH's English teacher and drama coach at Fairport and was still in touch with him. In fact, he came to NY to see him on Broadway last year and hung with him backstage after the show. Needless to say, my buddy's brother is devastated. (I found out about PSH's death via his old teacher's FB page.) From everything I'd seen and read he was a good guy. I remember seeing him do a local Rochester news interview by satellite the Thanksgiving Truman was out. He was a big star by then and didn't need to do the interview, but was humble and gracious throughout and really seemed to be getting a kick out of doing the local news he watched as a kid. I also saw recently that he'd had a relapse while filming a movie. The producers claimed he was now clean and sober and ready to continue filming since they'd given him a whole 7 to 10 days in rehab. I remember being worried for him at the time and thinking the producers were greedy SOB's who cared not one whit for him, so long as their movie got done on time and under budget. Wherever they are, I hope they feel suitably ashamed of themselves..... -
And New England* (must never forget the asterisk!) never won without cheating--so what's your point? In fact, they're 0-4 when not getting caught cheating, just like us....

Even so, other folks (like SI's Don Banks) gave us credit for the Manuel pick and thought we'd take him there again in a do over draft. Personally, the worst I'd give this draft (which should include Robey) is an A minus....

Wow--this will be a big loss, as he was indeed one of the best O-line coaches in the League

Mike Pettine speculation-interviewing w Cleveland

I think you're right about Quinn being the real target, which seems at least slightly buttressed by this: http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2014/01/22/signs-point-to-pettine-but-browns-interviewing-today/ -

Well, that certainly sucks. Our only decent coach--why, oh, why couldn't they have taken Crossman off our hands? -
This. Now we just need to add a LBer or two and some depth (and keep Pettine!) and I could see a top 5 D next year....

Belichick: Welker tried to 'take out' Talib
MattM replied to angryfan62's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Spikes has been a dirtbag the last couple of years in terms of dirty hits and Wilfork was fined 4 times in a season, IIRC, and was not suspended. That included the blatant shot on Losman's knee--truly one of the dirtiest plays I've ever seen--falling on a defenseless Jason Witten well away from the play and trying to poke Brandon Jacobs' eye out. Bill's certainly seen a lot of cheap shots--he's just not used to his guys being on the receiving end of them! Cry me a river.... -

That's what folks thought last year, too--that he'd be gone--but he resigned a cheap 1-year deal. I, too, however, suspect he'll leave in FA this year, along with Spikes and Blount . I suspect they pony up and keep Edelman after last year's Welker/Amendola debacle . 'Lil Danny had a goose egg yesterday when it counted, and spent more time in the tub than at practice this year (as many warned)..., -
I agree with this--for those who think he's a gentleman, good sport and class act on the field, go read the Esquire interview he did 4-5 years ago in which he talks about loving to run up the score. He came across as an arrogant jerk in that interview, full stop. I'll give him credit for (a) being a great player--1st ballot HOFer and (b) some of his charity work (in particular working with the mentally handicapped), but that's it

They went away from the run pretty early yesterday--he had 6 yards on 5 carries. I think they feared getting outshot in a gunfight with Manning and so abandoned the run when it didn't work in the 1st quarter. Blount's a FA, so will be interesting to see what those 2 good games did to his market value. If they try to lowball him, he's gone IMHO.... -

I agree, GunnerBill--I suspect they really want Quinn or Gase over Mike P., but they may not wait that long. I hope I'm right, but time will tell.... -
I love watching Lil Donte Whitner get exposed
MattM replied to Estelle Getty's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'm not a Whitner hater, but he gave up too early on that long pass play, clear as day--just flat out stopped is what the replay showed. -

Great--then we're agreed that if the League doesn't suspend Dennard a good number of games (at least what Lynch got for far lesser offenses in the eyes of the criminal justice system) then the League is (once again) favoring the Pats*. Personally, I'd say they've done that already by not suspending him during the playoffs or the end of last season. Let's see if normal justice prevails or we get a rerun of the Wilfork matter I linked to above.... -

I repeat what I said above (and the facts)--Lynch pled guilty to a traffic citation (not even a misdemeanor) and as the link showed above, a charge of not having the paperwork to carry the gun in the car. All the rest of your post is your (and the NFL's supposition). The legal system saw fit to give Lynch no jail time, yet the NFL gave him 3 games off. Dennard, by contrast, was convicted or pled to two crimes that led to his being sentenced to a far harsher criminal sentence--2 months in jail, including for punching a cop and violating probation by being arrested for DUI (funny how you assume Lynch must have been drunk, but make no such assumption about Dennard). Yet to date he's gotten NOTHING from the NFL, even though he pled and was sentenced Dec 5th. What are they waiting for? I'd argue that by waiting until after the playoffs to suspend him, they've already done the Pats* a huge favor. Not suspending him at all, which is quite possible , would be a joke, but wouldn't surprise me in the least. I'd like your answer up front to my 2d question (even in hypothetical form) so you can't wriggle off later when he's never suspended. -

MattM replied to ColdBlueNorth's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I see you don't follow the Bills--Marshawn Lynch got 3 games off for "crimes" ( more like citations) that he got no jail time for. That's what were discussing. That impacted us by lessening his trade value. You never answered my 2d question-- what does it mean with respect to equal treatment if Dennard is never suspended? I'd also say "schooled " is apt. You asked for a link--I gave you one and you disappeared....
