  1. We'll get LG and LOLB in FA, go w/ Derek Fine at TE, and draft a pass rushing LDE in round #1. Trent will step up in year 3, and we're gonna rock! What a jolt of energy the TO signing has put into Bills nation! Wow....
  2. Derek Fine played, I think, in parts of 8 games last year. I saw potential, and I certainly didn't see enough to write him off. We need to add a LG and a LOLB in FA, then grab our LDE in round #1, and we be good to go! I'm finally excited about the Bills again! (TO Reference)...
  3. This has to be the most stunning turn of events at OBD in years. On the one hand, I've always hated the "me first, look at me!" attitude as personified more than anyone in sports by T.O. On the other hand, what a marketing coup! Holy cow! The Bills just went from National Joke to Nationally Relavent" w/ one move! The dwindling and demoralized fan base is instantly back, and excited. Our offense is certainly better. We'll be on National TV games again, and the merchandise sales are already through the roof. This was pure genius on the part of Russ, w/ a nod to Ralph for signing off on it. My money says says Jouron's input was not a factor at all. Regardless, I always disliked TO, but I think this move, for this team, at this time, was pure marketing genius. Really.
  4. This stunning move has "marketing" written all over it, and it is brilliant in that regard. In one move, the Bills went from national joke who would have lost many thousands of season ticket holders, to a nationally intriging storyline with probably INCREASED ticket sales. There is no other single move this downtrodden team could have contemplated that would would have changed their image/fortunes in one fell swoop. They are nationally relevant again instantly, AND now more potentially attractive to other FA's. I have always disliked this type of "me first" player, and TO in particular. But you have to admit, this has re-energized this franchise like no other single action could have. This was way over Jaurons head, I doubt he had any input. What a stunner!........
  5. No news here. A suspension has been expected by anyone familiar w/ the NFL's recent actions. I suspect 4 games, due to this being 2 strikes...Thank goodness we've got Freddy J, and this is why we took a hard run at Fred Taylor.
  6. Whew, a lot of good stuff here. I think most of us share the emotion: we love the team, but after last year's second half (the putrid quality of the games), we were thirsting for some signal that the front office cared too. Their response was to hold a circle jerk in Detroit, and then Ralph comes out to say "Jauron is staying, AND IT WAS AN EASY DECISION". WOW, what a brilliant PR move THAT was! And now in FA, nothing. RW is 90 yrs old. He is not going to do the work, or spend the $, to make us competitive. And when he dies, I'm afraid our beloved Bills will be gone. I've been a fan for over 40 years. I travel from Tampa to games. I love this team. But I, like many of you, am totally deflated by what has gone on recently. And I STILL check this and other sites multiple times daily, hoping to see that the team has done SOMETHING to feel good about....Things be lookin' dark, my friends........
  7. Agreed: keeping our own has never been part of the equation at OBD. If we had extended Greer, a very solid known commodity, last year, we needn't have drafted McKelvin, and could have used that #1 pick to solidify one of our many weaknesses. Instead, we develop a quality young corner in Greer, then decide to let him walk while using a valuable #1 pick to fill a role that was already filled. Rinse. Repeat. But I guess we DO extend sometimes: Keeping Kelsay for huge money was (cue the Guniness ad)" BRILLIANT!!!!".
  8. Some of you are missing an important point. You say "we've got Greer's replacement in McKelvin". Maybe we do, BUT, if we had signed (extended) our own guy LAST year, whom we knew was damn good, we wouldn't have had to spend the top pick last year on McKelvin. We could have extended Greer, AND added another top player to our woefullly thin team at another position of need, instead of taking still another corner in round #1. Simon is right: we let another of our young talent walk for nothing. Good luck Jabari, you're a class act......
  9. We need a #2 that can stretch the field. Coles was that guy, but Holt c/b too. The other guys , like Toomer, are just Josh Reed 2.0. Possesion types. No rookie will fill this position (b/c our #1draftee will be an LDE), we need a vet w/ speed, IMO.
  10. Totally agree. W/ Scott at SS and Whitner at Free, we'd be OK at safety. We have far big concerns than that (in order: LDE, TE, LG, LOLB. #2 WR).
  11. I too have wondered why some are so ready to assume that a low draft choice, Bowen, who didn't play a down last year is even a consideration to shore up our very shakey LOLB spot. I still think we fill this position, and LG, through FA, then go LDE and TE # 1 and 2 in the draft. Our team's #1 need, IMO, is a pass rush from the LDE spot. THAT, me thinks, would make the whole team better.
  12. I do not think JP will get a #2 job in the NFL. Here's why: He w/b one play away from having to carry that team. Anyone that has caught his act, and all NFL teams scout everybody, would be certified to put him in the position of maybe playing full time if their starter went down. I think that one play in the JESTS game may have sealed his NFL fate. The stunning lack of awareness and pocket presence... I know he has the arm, and he's generally a very good guy. But between the ears, not so much. Best of luck to him though. They're talking him up down here in Tampa...
  13. I don't know anything about Scheffler, but why would the Donkeys let him go?
  14. I love Greer, and I hope we keep him. Injuries will happen, and McGee is up after this year. Re: Youboty and Corner- I like 'em both too, but Youboty has looked good for 1/2 of his 3 years here, and that was as a nickle. And Corner looks nice so far, but Greer is a proven commodity: solid cover man, great speed, good tackler, selfless, good "team" guy. NE will probably grab him, as it not only makes them better, but a Div opponent weaker.
  15. Call me crazy, but I like Steve Johnson. I think he COULD BE an option as our #2. And crazier still, probably, I think Derek Fine might be an OK tight end, given an opportunity. But I think we'll get Coles, or Toomer. Our #1 need, IMO, is a pass rushing LDE, which will be our target at #11. And we'll pick up servicable veterans for LG and LOLB in FA. Thoughts, anyone?...
  16. Jeez you guys! Yes, he IS a career back up, but he is replacing 2 very weak links (Fowler/Preston). It's a good, not great, signing IMO. Now we need, for sure, as starters: LG, LDE, and LOLB. I could live w/ Steve J as our #2 WR, and even w/ Fine as our TE. If we could get a FRIGGIN' PASS RUSH, everything w/b better. I think we'll get the LG in FA for sure, and maybe the OLB too. That leaves LDE as the #1 draft pick. Any draftee after the first round will not be expected to contribute anyway, but we need a pass rush from pick #11. Git 'er done, Russ!
  17. It's not the cold. Players, or any employees, want to work for a positive organization where they see an opportunity to achieve their goals. In this case, those goals are to win, gain some notariety professionally, and get paid well. They also look for stability, as in "is this coach that is telling me what my role is, is he going to be around for the future?". While the Bills CAN pay competitively, they usually don't. But even if they do, none of the other intangibles are in place. Why WOULD any free agent want to come to this dysfunctional organization? The fans are the best, but the organization is, w/ a nod to Cinncinati, maybe the worst in the NFL.
  18. You are spot on re: Kelsay. Touche'.
  19. I live in Tampa, and Chucky was run out of town b/c his players, AND his owners, AND the fans all couldn't take his ego-maniacal, "it's not my fault" approach. He inherited a super bowl team from Dungy, and had a .500 record after his 6 years here. FWIW......
  20. Yea, we'd be "stuck" w/ a solid cover corner who can tackle and is a total team guy. Yes, it is A LOT of money for any corner, but aren't we sick of developing top cb's, only let 'em walk for nothing? (See Winfield, Antonio or Clements, Nate). Top corners are very difficult to get your mitts on. After Greer gets top 10 money elsewhere, which he will, we'll be one injury away from serious problems. And we had 2 injuries last year, not one. AND, McGee is a FA after next year....Still look like a good idea to let a very good corner walk for nothing? He's gone, unfortunately.....
  21. Mr. Kenwick: What I HOPE that Mr. Wilson wants is some semblence of a pass rush. Without that, we continue to struggle. My guess: LDE in round #1, TE in Round #2. OLB and #2 WR in free agency, and maybe even a center? Actually, those 5 positions in either FA or the draft w/b a GREAT off season. Hey, we can dream, no?.....
  22. Forget it. Boldin is not going to get #1 receiver $ here, that's the whole problem in AZ. You think Ralph is going to pay 2 guys #1 money? No team does that (just remembered, the Cowpiles do, but that's why they are rumored to be cutting T.O. soon). NY has no #1 guy now; Philly has no #1, as Jackson is on his rookie deal and relatively cheap. Also, he'll go wherever AZ sends him. He's not a FA....
  23. Ralph would of course NEVER pay Haynesworth, nor will he pay Greer, unfortunately. We'll get the usual "B" level leftovers. As long as they cut Royal and the God-awful Kelsay, that w/b a start....I'd like to see 'em let Steve Johnson play at the #2 WR spot, and give Fine a chance at TE. Then go hard after a pass rush and a center in the draft.
