  1. Crowell is apparantly damaged goods. I live in Tampa, and he wasn't able to participate in mini-camp this week, due to his knee. They say he "may be" ready for the May mini-camp. They also say he may not make the team, and that little or none of his $ was guaranteed. I guess the Bills FO got this one right.
  2. Something to consider that I haven't seen mentioned yet: He has been WAY underpaid for the past 2 years. Most thinking people would admit that getting a Pro Bowl ( I know, we question that, but it is what it is) LT for the last 2 years for really low ball money is a huge factor in JP's view. He's made aprox 7 mil over the last 2 years, while top LT might have been expected to make maybe 8 or 9. Let's even say 7. So he's ALREADY owed back pay, so to speak, for the bargain the team has had the advantage of. So now, if he gets 10 mil for 4 years, he looks at it like this: 10 for 4 years, plus 7 for the last 2 years = 47 for 6 years, or 7.83 per year. That is STILL well below market. I'm not defending it, I'm just pointing out a seldom discussed angle....
  3. Donkeys get 2 firsts, a third and Kyle Orton.
  4. Potential deals, yes. Like when we had an agreement w/ Jax to swap picks w/ them the year Big Ben was available. Tom D wanted Ben, plus he really wanted to screw Pittsburgh. Jax picked one spot ahead of Pit, and tricky Tom had it all set to go. Except that Reggie Williams, the receiver that Jax wanted but didn't expect to still be there, was still there. So Jax reneged on the deal, and took Williams, Pit got Ben, and we, picking just behind them, didn't. BTW, I expect us to trade Peters while we are on the clock on draft day. And I think Philly's 2 #1's is not out of the ballpark for a 27 year old 2x all pro LEFT tackle. Just my 2 cents...
  5. We don't have quality starters at: LG, TE, LDE nor LOLB. We're NOT getting 4 starters out of this, or any, draft. In fact, one starter might be the reasonable expectation. Since it's only March, we have time to fill a few of these w/ vets, but the FO should have done that by now if they were planning on it. Soooo, we've got some holes. But so does every other team. I think Trent will prove the naysayers wrong, but I see a big hole in our lack of a pass rush. Hence, at THIS point, 7-9 again.
  6. Totally agree. These low expectations that have allowed Duke Preston to start for us are evident at other positions as well: Royal as a starting TE, Ellison, Ko Simpson, and most of all, Turnstile Kelsay at DE. Ineptitude disguised as starting caliber players. Hence, 7-9.
  7. Never said he was a "great" cold weather qb, making the rest of your post moot.
  8. Oh, and another one for you "he can't play in bad weather" folks: End of the season, 2 years ago, at Wash: raining, cold, we're down by 2 w/ aprox one min to go when we get the ball at about our 25. After a few quick outs to Roscoe, Edwards launches a perfect pass to Reed, about 25 yards in the air, to set us up for Lindells winning kick. The throw was dropped in perfectly b/t 4 defenders, and it could not have been a better throw. Trent was a rookie. But, but, but...he can't play in weather! He can't throw down the field! He's a glove wearing Mary! Wah, Wah! Wah!!!!
  9. Bill, you're wasting your time talking sense to some of these "fans". I'm through 4 pages, and it's mostly absurd crap about how Edwards sucks. Let's get this straight: Edwards does NOT suck. He was in his second year last year! He has a winning record, on a very bad team! The pass to Freddy that won the Denver game, on the road and in 17 degree weather, was NOT a 5 yard pass. It was about about 25 yards, on a circle route, that Edwards had to stand in pocket to deliver as the defender was coming right up the middle to cream him. Edwards is a humble, very bright, team-first kid who has tremendous upside potential, IMO. But these friggin' yahoos want to crucify him b/c he can't throw TD's in 50 MPH winds at the Ralph. Morons.
  10. Schobel, over his career, has earned his respect around the league and the $ that comes w/ it. Kelsay has not. Kelsay, in my opinion, should be and will be cut. I'll say, again, that our #1 draft pick has to be spent on this woefully undermanned position. We NEED a pass rush, badly.
  11. Wow, an unusually thoughtful post. I don't recall seeing a lot of these. Well done. And I love the avatar.
  12. Something to consider: From Peter's POV, he has played pro bowl level LT for several years now, for far less than his value. So this upcoming contract is actually a leveler, in that it makes up for the Bills getting him on the cheap for the last several years. Let's say he gets 40 mil over 4 years. Add that to only 3 mil for the last 2 (pro bowl) years: that's 46 Mil for 6 years, or 7.66 mil per. That is STILL cheap for a pro bowl LT. The guy to his right made 9 mil, and was a stiff. I'm not defending it, just pointing out his perspective...
  13. Sheep. Multiple threads and countless pages on this topic based on....totally unsubstantiated rumor.
  14. I think Derek Fine is our TE, and he looked good enough to me in limited playing time last year. Certainly we'd all like a proven veteran, but we have far bigger needs. We've GOT TO pick up a pass rushing LDE, which we will do in round #1. I still expect to pick our LG and LOLB in free agency (or trade).
  15. 3 pages, so far, about a rumor. Sigh........
  16. It is unlikely that anyone other than the first round pick will play/contribute much anyway in year #1. With that in mind, after we get (please, God!) Kelsay's replacement @ #11, I'd go "best available".
  17. Oh really? In Denver, in December, both Qb's had the chance to win that game. Our "noodle arm QB" stood in the pocket and took a real blow to deliver a beautiful long ball to Fred Jackson to re-take the lead in the 4th qtr, after our D had given up the lead. Then your boy Cutler had 2 drives/opportunities to win the game, at home. He failed. Give me Edwards and his upside.
  18. I wouldn't cut him b/c he makes too much money. I'd cut him, today, b/c he is a very poor DE, against both the run and the pass. He is , IMHO, the weakest link on our team. Our #1 pick will be at LDE. Mark it down.
  19. We WILL have our starting LG and LOLB from FA by then, so I'm taking Kelsay's replacement, a pass rushing LDE, at #11. And a TE at #2.
  20. Me thinks, in order of importance: LG and LOLB: through FA ( Cato June?), or in Waters case hopefully, trade. LDE- #1 draft pick. That's it, as far as new guys that will contibute this year. I think at safety, we use Donte at free and Scott at strong. At TE, Derek Fine looked servicable to me last year. Some say we'll get this and that through the draft, and we will get FUTURE help there. But as far as this year, realistically you can expect immediate help from your #1 pick only. Anything beyond that w/b gravy (such as a tight end, which I think will be our #2 draft priority, and our #2 TE this year, and possible future starter). Thoughts?....
  21. He INITIATED the contact. He wasn't responding to the interest. Big difference, wise ass.
  22. Our #1 draft pick will be Kelsay's replacement.
  23. How about that? It wasn't Russ the Marketer, nor Dead Coach Walking that saw the potential for TO to revive the franchise, it was our young QB. The kid's got some stones after all.....
  24. You don't agree w/ his opinion, so you............crack on his picture like jilted junior high school boy? Real thoughtful response.
  25. We will be drafting Kelsay's replacement at LDE #1 on draft day. Mark it down. I still expect a LG and our LOLB to sign in FA, and I think we'll be OK w/ Derek Fine at TE. Josh Reed will blossom in the slot. TO just makes the team better all around. I never liked TO, but my goodness, what a master stroke, both in marketing and football-wise, by Russ. As Dick Enberg would say "Oh, My!!".........
