The defense is Rex's responsibility and he failed last year, it doesn't mean Mario wasn't a malcontent all year when he felt he couldn't do what he wants/likes to do.

Just to be clear, this isn't a Mario crusade, I would have never hired Rex Ryan if I'm the Pegulas. My choice for HC was Hue Jackson and I would have paid big money to keep Schwartz, thus keeping the defense intact. With that being said, we paid Mario Williams to be great, not to be merely good most of the time. I already stated in this board that if Mario really tried most of the time he would be 20 sack player every year. He as talented a player can be but he doesn't always put the effort to be the dominant force he could be.

No doubt about that. Mario doesn't do the heavy lifting, he's a follower, not a leader.

WTF said that? Legend? Gospel? Tell me, if Kyle is a warrior that never quits, would you not consider him a leader if you were his teammate? I believe, KW wouldn't have gone public with the defensive problems, he would have gone to Rex Ryan and voice his concerns about it, he would have tried to fix it in house and not go to the media with it. Rex hates Kyle Williams because he doesn't fit his shceme? Talk about myths.....

My point is that Kyle would have never let Mario vent in the media about the problems the D was having, he would have kept the dissent in house, trying to figure things out.

It all went south defensively when Kyle Williams went down with injury, Mario Williams wouldn't have had the balls to play the role of the malcontent. Kyle would have straightened him up immediately.

Good player, but not elite. It was the correct move to let him go based on his salary demands.

He could become a version of what Bryan Scott was for us a couple of years back. A hybrid LB/S that also contributes to special teams. This defense could use a guy like that.
