I don't know why someone as passionate as him on "fairness" is only campaigning for a $15/hr minimum wage. He should really go for it and propose a guaranteed minimum income. How many campaigns does he have left? Maybe a $60K annually guaranteed income per person. Work if you like, file tax return and if you're under $60K get a check for the difference. Trump still has very high negatives among voters in all parties and I fear he will not debate well against Hillary as he lacks substance in most of his answers. Her substance is BS but she has a tremendous ability to look straight into the camera and lie and dodge and have many people buy it. Cruz, Rubio, Christie and Fiorina would tear her apart on that stage IMO. Trump if he is to win support in a debate will have to resort to tactics such as turning to her on camera and saying something like: I can't imagine why one person, NOT ONE!, would vote for you given your lack of accomplishments and support for a horrible President like Obama. We would still have tax cheats. People might offer cash for larger ticket items. I'll pay you $10K for that diamond necklace for my wife but ring it up for $8K, charge me tax for $8K and you can book a sale for $8K. Yeah I know some of that goes on now to cheat sales tax but the consumption tax might cause a lot more of that to happen.

I wouldn't say that looking forward to freebies in retirement makes you more liberal. You and you employers have paid into SS and Medicare throughout your working life. One is supposed to get those benefits when the time comes.

Any consumption tax would have to be progressive. Expensive items would have to have higher tax rates to preserve the concept of the rich paying more and even more than more.

I agree that a consumption tax can make sense. It's a very tough sell especially with a congress that can't even agree on simple obvious things like better securing the border and having any kind of fiscal discipline.

Aren't most of our laws based on Morality? It's against the law to kill, rape and steal. Someone with weak morals might think those things can be justified. Our laws and our society says no. Many people past and present (including the founders for sure) see a 50% income tax as a theft. Personally I think it's a great question, knowing where different people stand on what is fair or too much taxation. I do know this, politicians when asked this question (especially Dems) dodge it.

No, I'd say your views are very centrist in the Democrat party which has recently supported the stimulus, Obamacare, extended unemployment, expanded SS disability, expansion of food stamp program, free cell phones, free daycare for children, expanded college grants, housing allowances, tax credit for low income earners and I could name more. That's a very broad safety net with no strings attached, only your vote is required.

How is it that the rich earn their money off the backs of the poor? My morals don't like for people to be homeless and starving either but there has to be limits from government support otherwise it's an expensive way of life paid for the others. THAT is the most unfair. Take some of the unused government land, give it to groups of poor along with a water and electricity supply plus a stipend for building materials, crops and tools and let them live off the land like the Amish if they don't want to work in mainstream society. People do it and live a good quality of life and don't have to rely on the government. Without the religious tie, they can always return to the mainstream if they choose. I don't believe for a minute that the FBI is making a serious inquiry with the intent to prosecute if they can make a case. I think the investigation is being done to clear her. An announcement that an investigation was completed and no wrongdoing found is the planned outcome as long as Hill supports Obama up until election time.
