OT - LPGA a tad over-rated I think !
todd replied to TravelingDad48's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think those women are pretty decent. They DO play short courses, though. Any par 4 under 300 yards is driveable by a decent 10 handicapper. I've played Locust Hill in Rochester when it was longer than the way it's set up for the ladies. I don't find locust a particularly difficult course at all, even when longer than set up for the LPGA. I guess I sort of agree with you. When compared against professional men, the LPGA can't compare. However, Annika Sorenstam shot a 59. 59! I'm sorry, but I don't think many people alive could shoot a 59 even on an executive course. -

Yeah, I'd love to see that question answered! -

If you back up what you say, there's no such thing as cockey. Muhammed Ali said he was the greatest all the time. I wouldn't call that cockey, because he was 100% correct. -
It's wedding season, man.

Why in the world would you hope that there aren't gay players on the Bills? Why would you ever care who is gay and who isn't on ANY team? This just confounds me. -
Oh my. Yes, the decline of film would have necessitated the level of staffing in the film segment. However, if Kodak had thought ahead, they might not actually be #1 in the US for digital, they would be #1 in the WORLD. Maybe if they thought ahead, the ofoto and Kiosk businesses would have been dominating the market they way they did with film for so many years. Maybe they would be making the best CCD sensors in the world, rather than Canon. Maybe they would be players in all digital camera segments, instead of having to cancel their professional line of cameras. Maybe they would be able to compete in the market of high-end consumer cameras such as the Canon G6 - instead Kodak doesn't even have a camera that competes in this segment. For that matter, maybe Kodak would have been able to have a camera to compete with the Nikon D70 or the Canon 20D, or the Digital Rebel. Imagine the revenue! Imagine the market dominance! If you look at it that way, all you can see is lost revenue. I look at potential, you don't. Instead of creating and leading, Kodak ended up spending the first 5 years of the digital revolution simply reacting and playing catch-up. Maybe instead of layoffs, Kodak could easily have kept the same staffing levels by shifting the focus to digital earlier, requiring higher staffing levels in that area. It IS Kodak's fault for not innovating and thinking ahead. Clearly. With a strong brand image like Kodak, if they had actually recognized the INEVITABLE switch to digital earlier and used their considerable R&D & manufacturing capability to capitalize on that they wouldn't be screwed like they are now. The shift of employment ratio away from film would have been inevitable, but compensating for that with better digital performance might have allowed for attrition in film and even higher staffing in support digital.

Thank you. Coudln't have said it better myself. Some people don't understand economics. If a company isn't making enough money selling film, it makes sense to cut film production. If cutting film production requires fewer employees, is Kodak obligated to employ it's current number of employees? It's so friggin simple it's laughable, yet some people think Kodak should still keep employment numbers where they are for the hell of it. I'm sorry, but you have to be really effen stupid to think that way.

Kodak didn't used to own Ofoto. They tried to do their own thing for a while and it was horrible. Marketing people tried to manage a software development process, and IT people tried to manage a marketing tool. It was hilarious. Eventually Kodak bought Ofoto. Also of note - Ofoto (and snapfish) is rapidly losing ground to flexible tools like Flickr. Regarding Kiosks, there is plenty of completition in this area, so we'll see how it shakes out. Kodak ease of use is excellent - tops in the Kiosk industry IMO, but I get better results (picture quality) from the Fuji-based kiosks.

1. Who will win the World Series of Poker in 2021? Some loser, same as 2005 to 2020. 2. When the Bills are in the Super Bowl (this year or another one soon), what will happen just before the game starts that will ensure a Bills victory? Tyrell Owens (playing for Dallas) will get kicked in the nuts by me. 3. What is the most underrated rock album of all time? XTC - Skylarking. 4. Fill in the blank: The most meaningless thing in the world to a woman is a(n) _____. Penis. 5. Fill in the blanks: It is a matter of time until Hollywood Donahoe will become a Doug Fwootie fan.

That's quite a long list of excuses you are making. Tell that to the people being laid off. I was reminded today of one of my favorite quotes by one of the founders of Xerox Palo Alto Research Center: "The best way to predict the future is to invent it" Kodak had the capability to do that, and they bombed.

Not really. They are #3 worldwide. #1 is some market segments in the US only.

Now that's a good looking hound! Congrats, daddy!

I hope so. When I was there I compared Kodak's situation to the situation of Microsoft in the mid-90s. The internet was taking off with netscape and everything, and Microsoft was way behind the ball. Microsoft virtually reinvented itself within 6 months, and saved themselves from being completely left behind. Kodak needed to do that with digital at the same time. They didn't. And now you see a tale of two companies and decisions that were made.

It might have something to do with the type of people Kodak has been hiring for years. Not many risk takers. Mostly people who are willing to deal with the corporate drone, and not stick their head up for fear of getting it whacked off. I remember my first year there, I was really trying to get a new project going that would have saved Kodak lots of money, but there would have been an initial investment in development. I was told by more than one person that those who chirp too loud end up getting de-chirped - especially if it was about spending money or pressing for too much change. That's the management culture there.

Yeah, none of our picks have worked out well.

Not at all. You might want to try civility. Changing a distinctly anti-Bills avatar and name on a Bills board would be a start. So I missed the Troy Brown siging. You jump all over me for it like an !@#$ troll prick. I should be asking YOU if I hurt your feelings to get such a response from you.
-
Ok NE prick troll, whatever you say. 8-8. I'll stand by it.

Troy Brown is a loss. Adding fwootie is subtraction by addition.

I know we have some posters who deal with mortgage

SDS is right, however there are other reasons to go with a interest-only loan. First, you can deduct that interest from your taxes. Of course, you'd need to balance how much this would save you by looking at your housing payment vs. your income. Interest-only loans are also good if you are in a housing market where you can quickly build equity simply by the value of housing going up alone. I'm not sure this is the case any more given the bubble. In some cases, interest only loans are banks trying to maximize profits while they can before they have to forclose on a ton of properties once the bubble bursts. Banks don't make much $$ on forclosures. They make more $$ on paid interest. -
Buffalo Bills - 10-6 I think we've got a team around Losman that's set to win games. Our OL, while not as skilled as I would like, is really big. In Buffalo, power running game is the shiznit and blowing people off the line is what needs to happen. The key to this year is not Losman, it's McGahee. Anyway, if Mularkey and Clements made a Pro Bowler out of Kordell Sthewart, Losman will do fine. Jets - 7-9 They are switching up their offense this year. It's gonna be a problem. Herm Edwards is a mediocre coach who talks too much. Curtis Martin is great, but he's a year older and it's starting to catch up to them. Lamont Jordan ain't there no more. New England 8-8 I know, Belechek is a great coach, but I think NE will have problems this year. They've lost some key players, not to mention his OC and DC. His coordinators were instrumental in implementing his plans. I don't think Belecheck will shift his organization into a new format in time to win 10 games. They'll lose some tough games, but win some tough ones as well. This will be a rebuilding year for NE, and I bet by next year they'll be kicking everyone's butt again. Miami 6-10 This team will be good. In two years. There are way too many question marks on this team to allow them to compete. There are questions on the OL, questions at LB, questions at RB, and huge questions at QB. There's even questions at the coordinator positions.

But he's a human being and has rights just like the rest of us! He has a right to lust after little kids! Anyway, he can be rehabilitated! BARF! I prefer castration to rehabilitation. -
I can. :-) Lonnie Johnson Robinson - that crappy LB I try to block out the rest. It's too painful.

It's really too bad. When I was laid off it really sucked. I hated it. But hindsight is 20-20, and I should have seen it coming. Kodak was going down, and one of the first things that are cut are cost centers - IT being one of them. 85% of my group was cut. However, since then I've learned that getting out of Kodak will end up being great for my career. At least I kept up my marketable skills, kept a decent network of potential employers, and am doing well. In today's market if people don't do that, they are screwed. I hope others have done the same. If they have, they'll be OK. If anyone has neglected their own job skills, and expected to be employed by kodak forever after all the cuts that have happened recently, I can't imagine what they are thinking.
