The #NoWarInIran hashtag is the stupiest hashtag I've ever seen. Which is why I'm putting it in this thread where it belongs.

When your clothes are dirty...steal new clothes. Or steal the water.

He stole my line...

There can be only one.

In 1218, Genghis Khan sent an embassy into Persia, which the Shah Mohammed II promptly killed. Genghis Khan then invented the principle of "diplomatic immunity," by sending his army into Persia. He absolutely devastated the region, and chased Shah Mohammed II to a small island in the Caspian Sea, where Mohammed II died largely of fright. Eastern Persia never recovered from that attack - the region was so thoroughly depopulated by the Mongols that the 2000 year old irrigation system collapsed from lack of maintenance. The Iranians should know, viscerally, what "violating an embassy" means.

If Epstein does, we'll finally know he's dead.

It requires investigative reporting, which no one ever does anymore. I know, just from reading military history, that that's typical of how ***** gets done. I rarely see it laid out in such detail for contemporary events, though.

The Mizzou/Yale/PC/Free Speech Topic
DC Tom replied to FireChan's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
9. A professor claimed that the small chairs in preschools are sexist, “disempowering,” and “problematic.” If you go down the rabbit-hole for this one, you'll find it's much, much stupider than this. -
He's that, too. You know who else was both a foreign official and enemy combatant? Goering! What about the kidneys of an eel?
-
Oh yeah; he told me the story several months later. Funny too..at the time, his full-time job was prosecuting murders for DOJ. When he was activated, the Army put him in charge of mass graves registration in Iraq. Naturally, because of his job, he was a perfect fit...so after about four months, the Army moved him out of that billet into passport processing, presumably on the grounds that he was actually qualified to do mass graves registration.
-
Someone I know who was stationed in Iraq had his helicopter cross the Iraq/Iran border. Which they only discovered when they were fired upon by Iranian air defenses. But he literally invaded Iran accidentally.
-
You are going to lose this argument, because you're arguing with immovable stupidity.
-
No, you ***** moron. We have been at war with Iran since 1979. Sherpa's fired shots in it, as I recall. No, he's a lawyer at DOJ.
-
I know people who have. I even know one guy who accidentally invaded Iran.
-
Yes, foreign official. We assassinated a foreign official. Why is that so hard to accept?
-
It routinely beats him at tic-tac-toe.
-
1) No, he was assassinated. There's nothing wrong with admitting that.
-
This'll be where Democrats come out in support of a foreign-backed coup...

The Media's Portrayal of Trump and His Presidency
DC Tom replied to Nanker's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Calls him "Iran's most revered." The qualifying possessive makes all the difference. And it's probably true (certainly true, now that he's dead.) -
It's arguably been a shooting war since Iran rocketed a US base last Thursday.

I keep that in mind while I'm criticizing. And there's a good bit to criticize here - as was pointed out somewhere else, this is another example of Trump understanding tactics but not strategy. Or, as I pointed out, another example of Trump understanding marketing but nothing else. The IRGC is a professional military force, intended to take losses and survive without degredation of capabilities. Killing Solemani is analogous to Iran assassinating General McKenzie (current CENTCOM commander) - nice propaganda win, but doesn't degrade US capabilities a damn, and results in Hell being rained down Iran's head.
