I actually wasn't too concerned once I heard it was a small black bear. It's the mountain lions that worry me. Now those are some pretty sneaky predators.

My kids' elementary school was on lockdown a couple weeks ago due to a bear that wandered down out of the mountains and was nosing around the neighborhood. It passed by about a block from my house, and was eventually tranked, tagged & trucked. Kids were cool with it, but as a parent you get a nasty chill when you're at work and get an automated phone call that starts off with "(Your child's) elementary school is currently under lockdown....."

I like Sarah Silverman, but I must admit that I find the thought of her masturbating to "The Holocaust: Faces of Genocide" a little... disturbing.

Having been to Borneo, I'd say that couple totally lucked out in the wildlife department compared to some of the possible alternatives. I recall a spider the size of a dinner plate that appeared overnight just outside where we were sleeping one night. Some local guy shot it with a pistol... and it was still alive. I also recall some insect larvae that were like 6 or 8 inches long. I shudder to imagine what those would turn into. Mothra, probably.
