  1. I've only used Craigslist for a apartment search once, but it worked out great, found a great place. I've used http://www.realtor.com with much success also.
  2. Yes definitely...Injuries are unavoidable in a deep playoff run but that was ridiculous.
  3. I agree they can win the Cup, I'm not hater. It will require Miller to play at a level on par with historical greatness, which he is capable of doing (see his Hasek-like numbers from this season and his Olympic excellence.) I'm not talking about an offensive juggernaut. I'm talking about the fact that just a month ago, their quote-unquote first line players of Pommer, Roy, Connolly, Vanek all had under 20 goals. That was subsidized with some 3rd and 4th liners who had 9, 10, 11 goals also. Nice balance no doubt, and that's important. And Vanek and Pommer catching some fire at the end is extremely important. But I also take into account the fact that they were 18-16-6 since January 8th, with four of those wins in the shootout. As we know, in the playoffs, games get tight, checking gets tight, games are 2-1 and 3-2. Often its an ugly goal from the checking line that's the difference, but often you need a special play from a special player. The latter is what I'm concerned about for the Sabres. And their forwards aren't known for really mixing it up down low, but Lindy has had a way of convincing them to play out of character once April rolls around. Let's hope it works out. 1999 proved that a hot goalie, excellent special teams, and a little luck can work in concert to take a deep run at the Cup.
  4. I don't think you would find one Sabres fan or "hockey person" who thinks that this roster has enough scoring to win a championship. They were quite balanced, which is good, but have no "go-to guy" or distinct #1 line, which is bad. Nice finishes by Roy, Pominville, and Vanek (last two games anyways) put a surge in the final goal scoring tallies. Ennis and Gerbe have provided a spark down the stretch. But on March 1st things looked pretty bleak offensively. They had a bunch of guys with 10-15 goals thru 60 games. And nothing really has changed...They were going as far as Miller would take them then, just as they are now.
  5. The Sabres anemic offense could survive without anybody. Vanek, their leading scorer going on four seasons, missed a chunk of time and you didn't even notice. In the playoffs, Hecht and his TEAM LEADING +14 will be missed. You need superstars to win championships, but in the grind of 7 game series, your 3rd-liners are often the difference makers.
  6. I was watching at a friend's house with about 15 people, everyone threw in $5 and picked a player to score the winner...I had Pommer!!! Needless to say that cash was gone immediately at the postgame trip celebratory trip to the pub.
  7. So awesome. Rangers bench knew they lost the series right there.
  8. Same here. He was a (*^*&%^$^#for riding his unhelmeted head into a car, but the car did pull out in front of him. Nobody knows what happened with these two girls. I am the last person to blame the victim. But it's always a possibility that some claims could very well be embellished. There's no question alcohol was involved, and there's no question Ben acted foolishly. He's been very lucky thus far in all of these incidents that he isn't dead or charged as a criminal. Regardless, I'd take the first competant QB in Orchard Park since 1996. It's not right, it's not wrong, it's sports business. Win games sell tickets sell shirts profit. Good players required. The NFL's ultimate good guy, Marvin Harrison, made a huge mistake (alledgedly shot a man) but wasn't charged criminally due to lack of evidence. If he was 27, he'd still be on the Colts or would be the hottest trade prospect out there. Not right, not wrong, just sports business.
  9. When you're on the main Stadium Wall board, and you see the most recent post from Off the Wall, the topic is: "How hard is it" You sick perverts
  10. No doubt. #9 pick overall and former 1st-rounder Lynch sounds good to me. Plus Ben is used to getting sacked (47 in '07, 46 in '08, 50 in '09) so he will feel right at home behind our O-Line.
  11. CAN'T WAIT!!! GO SABRES!!! If you don't like playoff hockey, there's a chance you are a dead zombie wandering the earth. As for last nights East games-- Pens played undisciplined and Fleury was real shaky, they deserved to lose. There was a point in the 2nd period when the the Pens were down 3-2 but had some momentum...In the Ottawa end, Spezza was grinding with Crosby in the corner, and maybe Spezza got a little aggressive and high with the elbow on Sid, but it was nothing much, Sid didn't even really flinch and there was no call. Sid even won the puck and just skated away as Spezza lost his balance. Then Kunitz for Pittsburgh came flying into the corner and blasted Spezza when the puck was nowhere close, I guess he was "protecting" Crosby. He was penalized. Three points-- 1. Crosby is as athletic as any player, is quite strong, has the puck constantly, works hard in the corners, and gives plenty shots of his own. He can handle himself just fine. 2. It was Jason Spezza, not Neil or Ruttu. I hardly think Spezza is trying to "run" somebody. 3. Kunitz took a stupid penalty in a one-goal game in the playoffs, and Ottawa pumped one in on the PP a minute later to make the score 4-2. Bye bye momentum, bye bye game 1. You can't do stupid things like that in the playoffs. On a Tuesday night in January in game 44 of the season, sure you don't want other teams taking liberties on your stars. But there's much more at stake here, it's hockey, you have to just play and let some things roll off your back. In these playoffs, Crosby is going to take MANY worse shots than a weak elbow from Jason Spezza...If the Pens react everytime, they'll be in trouble. Philly played a great road game, nice job making 2 goals stand up.
  12. She can extend it up to 18 minutes with her inevitable marriage (albeit short and tumultuous) to a C-list actor or wealthy record executive. Hold off on the wedding gift.
  13. Yes the next guys would certainly have your personal best interests in mind. Take care of yourself, don't wait for the talking asses in expensive suits to do it for you. I was merely commenting on the upheaval caused and challenges faced when losing your top 6 dignitaries in the power pyramid, plus 80 other top-level bureaucrats. As prepared as any nation could possibly be, there just isn't a contingency plan for that. The USA may have something on paper as to who assumes what command, but it wouldn't go swimmingly in any nation, here or Poland or elsewhere.
  14. Nantz's best line BY FAR was when Tiger rolled in the birdie on 18 to finish his up-and-down round at 3-under, "Somehow, he managed a 69 out of all of this." I was on the floor dying with laughter.
  15. Poland's leadership structure is devastated. It's incredible that they were all on the same flight. DC Tom mentioned above the budgetary differences between the USA and Poland, which likely played a role in having so many top bureaucrats on the same plane. And they were travelling to a rather remote area, it wasn't as if they were catching flights to JFK. In addition to the President, deaths included: Sad loss for the Poles. It's hard to imagine Barack and Michelle, Clinton, Geithner, Gates, Napolitano, Pelosi, and 85 other senators, bureaucrats, and Pentagon officials all dying in a plane crash. Regardless of your political leanings, this would be a crushing void to fill for any nation.
  16. I see Ponder as a Mark Bulger type. Not great but could put up numbers if surrounded by athletes. Can win games, but might not necessarily be a winner. It will be interesting to see how he bounces back from this injury. But I don't hear him getting much pub around the country. The team hasn't been very good, and while he has proven he can rack up a nice completion percentage, it's time to turn it into victories. He really only has a win at BYU to hang his hat on. Bottom line, the team went 4-5 with him as a starter last year, and 3-1 without him after his injury, including a bowl win. It's tough to throw the Heisman hype behind that in April. If they start out 4-0, and Ponder has good games at OU, vs. BYU, and vs. Wake, then he'll get some pub.
  17. Yes definitely true. The top-3 are generally pretty solid prospects...Everything else is a crap shoot.
  18. In a league where drafting teenagers is a shaky proposition at best, it looks like the Sabres really scored with their two 1st rounders in the '08 draft in Myers and Ennis. Nice job by the scouting computers and Darcy. In the past, their M.O. has been to miss terriblly on the 1st rounder but find a few underrated gems in the 3rd-4th.
  19. Hey man, I play golf. I'm not bad. I've spent two hours at the range. I've played in a tournament with 15 friends in a 8-on-8 "Ryder Cup" format where we played 36 on Thursday, 36 on Friday, 18 on Saturday. I've walked many a golf course and actually enjoy walking (and carrying my bag.) It's not particularly difficult.
  20. Or maybe that just shows how un-demanding it is. Like shooting 600 foul shots in a day.
  21. Me neither. I would like to see Pitt-Ott finish 4-5, so that one of those two teams is out in the 1st round.
  22. There is an athletic component to golf- the golf swing. It is an athletic move, the same as taking a slapshot, hitting a baseball, or kicking a soccer ball. However, let's assume a golfer uses 70 strokes to complete his round. Only about 30 of those strokes are "athletic." Another 30 are putts. Add about 10 for little chips and pitches around the green. There is nothing else demanded of a golfer, other than managing their own personal "stress." No running, no jumping, no opponents, no defense, strength training is optional (and some players frown on weightlifting.) The "athleticism" of the swing can be debated...It is essentially skillful muscle memory to get the club head through the ball square and on-time. No rush, proceed at your own speed, make sure you're completely comfortable to hit that non-moving object. It's like bowling. I particularly like the fact that people cite "walking" as part of the endurance of golf. Forget the fact that these guys are walking while someone else is carrying their bag. The players are eating bananas and granola bars as they walk along. Four straight days of walking?? My mom is 60 and she walks 5 days a week!! And she carries her own purse!!! Nolan Ryan pitched into his 40's (and not with great success as he got to 45-46.) That's not extremely unusual for pitchers, who have to make 30 starts a season, once every 5 days (and like pro golfers, have a rare and freakish skill.) Jamie Moyer is going to be 47 this year. Gordie Howe played when he was 50, but was a shell of a real hockey player. There are other examples, I'm sure. We're talking about the greatest championship in golf. Guys who can't jog a half-mile are leading the tournament. Why? Because at it's core, at the highest level, golf is a putting contest and has VERY little to do with athleticism. That's why senior citizens are able to compete with players in their prime "athletic" years. Bottom line, you can (and should) drink beers when you play. Not athletes. For the record, I play golf and I'm an 11 handicap and I enjoy the game.
  23. At the most prestigious (and some say the most difficult) golf tournament in the world, with a 50-year old in 1st place and a 60-year old in 2nd place, can we officially declare an end to the "golfers are athletes" discussion??? Puhleesse. Joe Theisman is 60. Keith Hernandez is 56. Isiah Thomas is 48. They were all among the best in their respective sports during their primes. Could you imagine any of those guys not only suiting up for a professional game, but excelling to the point that they could win championships? Golfers, you are supremely skilled. You are not athletes.
  24. It's really going to come down to Miller in the playoffs. A hot power play and a hot goalie can work wonders this time of year. It's going to be interesting to see what Lindy does with the forwards for the playoffs. They definitely haven't missed Thomas Vanish. But you know he'll be on the roster, and hopefully he has a streak coming his way. Hopefully Ennis stays up. I would assume Gerbe is sent back down, and when Connolly returns, that's another spot...I would prefer Ennis over Stafford any day of the week...
  25. It makes me want to buy a sweater vest, and have unprotected sex with multiple women!
