lol. McD and in-game situational strategy. Never gonna happen. McD doesnt even know what to do in those situations. Let alone be able to convince the entire team of it. Let alone be ready for that situation with a set of plays they have practiced and packaged EXACTLY for this situation. That would take someone who is a true student of the game and true Head Coach. We have a Defensive Coordinator getting paid as a HC who fills in as HC on game day.

As a UGA follower I wouldnt even take him in the 2nd, especially given what he brings to this team, which is nothing we dont already have. Not meant as diss on Ladd. I think Legette is our guy at 28. Not sold yet on Franklin or Thomas but combine and workouts could change that.

Would the Bills have beaten the Ravens?
DrDawkinstein replied to Dan Darragh's topic in The Stadium Wall
Yes, even Campbell. Who can at least get his guys fired up and ready to play across all 3 units. And whose team is playing like they "should" be playing. And who is in a Conference championship while we sit home. -
This draft is too deep at WR, and we have too many other needs, to make a double WR pick in the 2nd. It would be a re-do of the Boogie Basham mistake all over again. Plus, there arent that many balls to go around to justify that value of taking our 5th receiving option in the 2nd round. We should be able to take a WR in the 1st and another in the 4th-6th and still score some top talent while plugging our other holes with guys who can contribute right away as well.

And even if McD somehow figures it out, who will be listening to his stale-ass message in that locker room next year? I look forward to Diggs' meltdown in OTAs when he figures out it's Groundhog's Day all over again. Heck, make Diggs HC at this point.

Considering this season as a whole…
DrDawkinstein replied to Don Otreply's topic in The Stadium Wall
Frankly, stumbling out the gates with that absolute debacle against the Jets set the tone for this season. Losing against the Pats and then Milano going down pretty much sealed our fate of an early playoff exit. Leaving 12 men on the field against the Broncos should have been enough to knock us out of the playoffs completely. But we have a Josh. We are an inconsistent, rollercoaster of a team who plays down to bad teams and bad QBs, and sometimes shows up against decent teams. That's all coaching. And isnt surprising since we limped into this season without a HC, and ended up with a DC serving as interim HC and a QB coach serving as OC. I dont see how anything changes next year without a coaching change. McD's message is going to be very stale in that locker room. -
The bolded is the most troubling for all of us. This isnt even hindsight. So many of us saw it coming. Surely, the Bills would see it too, and have some sort of scheme up their sleeve to change something up. But no. And at this point, the Chiefs are pretty much a divisional game with familiarity. None of this should surprise our team. Yet we are left looking clueless each time.

Can We End This Nonsense About Homefield Advantage Now?
DrDawkinstein replied to K D's topic in The Stadium Wall
I think this season really showed us how important that #1 seed really is. Mostly because of the Bye week. Just think, we beat the Jets, Pats, and Broncos like we should have and we are in that #1 spot. And instead of Bernard, Benford, Spector, Rapp etc all getting injured against the Steelers, all our guys are home and resting and we actually get Davis back with the extra rest as well. Look at the road the Ravens have to go: 1 easy home playoff game against a low-ranked opponent. Then the Conf Champ at home, and you're there.- 65 replies

Haha, if the best you got in these "gotcha" scenarios is future HoF coach John Harbaugh, and Kyle Shanahan who has Mr Irrelevent playing at an MVP level, compared to McD who is supposed to be a "defensive genius" yet has never even won a SB in any capacity and whose teams fall apart every time the going gets tough, then you can play this game by yourself. None of the coaches left in the playoffs have warm seats and rightfully so. While some coaches who went out of the playoffs early should rightfully be questioned. McDermott is much closer to Todd Bowles level than Harbaugh, Shanahan, Reid, or even Campbell. -
Agreed in general. But there is a pretty well known stat that no Head Coach has won their first Super Bowl outside of the first 5 years with his team. So there is a bit to that "new HC, win it all". Far more so than "7th year Head Coach finally gets his act together".

Cute, but vastly different coaches and situations. -
Would the Bills have beaten the Ravens?
DrDawkinstein replied to Dan Darragh's topic in The Stadium Wall
No because he already has a SB win and a well documented 13 year track record of great coaching and Head Coaching decisions. And he helped steer his team to a 13-4 record, a #1 seed, and playing consistent football. -
First, my original statement was "heck, bring in Vrabel at this point". Meaning, even tho he isnt what we're looking for, he'd still be better than McD. So dont get mistaken that Vrabel is even close to my top choice or prototypical HC. My only point is: Vrabel isnt even a perfect answer but still better than McD. Second, yes, you'd love to bring in an Offensive mastermind to take Josh to all new levels, and so we dont have constant OC turnover. But I dont see a candidate out there that fits that role. Maybe one of the hot OCs like Johnson or Slowick, but there isn't enough tape on those guys to believe they'd be the answer. Maybe Johnson since Detroit is still in it and their O is actually functioning in the playoffs. To me, and IMO, McD's biggest weakness is situational football as a HC. He doesnt have the knowledge/experience/brain to know the right move to make when it comes down to in-game strategy. Vrabel has that in spades. I'd rather have a true HC mastermind than just a glorified OC-made-HC.
-
He is 1000x better at situational football decisions coming from years of studying under the master of situational football. He already used Belichick's dark magic against him a couple times with some of those "stretching the rules" situations to win games. Situational Football is McD's biggest weakness. He isnt "just a DC". He's on overall Head Coach, who hires coordinators and then assumes his position of overseeing the entire team, not just Defense. Lastly, it seems we need less of a decent human being and more of an ass-kicking football player to set the tone for this team.

SHOULD we? Yes. Heck, bring in Vrabel at this point. WILL Terry nut-up and pull the trigger? Absolutely not. We're stuck with this for at least another year.

Bills Cap Breakdown by Greg Tompsett

With this draft class, get one in the 1st and one in the 4th/5th and we are set for a while. -
Would the Bills have beaten the Ravens?
DrDawkinstein replied to Dan Darragh's topic in The Stadium Wall
No chance. And I would have said that before yesterday's game as well (which I also fully expected to go exactly as it did). Between injuries and lack of a real coaching staff (DC as interim HC, QB coach as interim OC), we were never going deep in the playoffs. The description of "win and be #2 seed, lose and go home" was very appropriate for this team. And while we ended up in that #2 spot, it was an inaccurate ranking for who we really were. As evidenced by letting the #7 Steelers all the way back into the game last week. Ravens are pretty much completely healthy. They have a full coaching staff, and one of the best as it is. It's their year. -
I wonder if the Bills will have extra security around the site on Sunday. The team has to be aware, right? I dont think I've seen it mentioned on any official social media. Rightfully so, they dont need the lawsuit.

Falcons request interview with Joe Brady for HC job
DrDawkinstein replied to BuffaloBillyG's topic in The Stadium Wall
That's cool and all, until you look around at the candidates out there and find out Brady is one of the top options as it is. There's been such a rush to push Offensive coaches up the ladder and make them HCs that we're to the point most of the proven talent is gone and already in HC or OC jobs. -
Isn't This Game the Ultimate Referendum on Beane?
DrDawkinstein replied to Rich Stadium Original's topic in The Stadium Wall
Building a team to beat another team is one of the dumbest moves a GM can make. By the time you are built, that team and the game in general, has already shifted to something else and you are left behind. Just build the best F$#&in team of a$$-kicking football players and be the team everyone else needs to build to beat. Beane has already done his job and put together a talented roster. Now lets see what the coach does when the going gets tough. -

Is getting cut to $3M better than getting cut to $0M?
