All well and good to think we hold all the cards at this point, yet if LJ hits the open market all bets are off as to who has the inside track.
The cliche of the NFL being all about business means the hightest bidder wins and we normally do not overbid (thankfully I may add). Having said that, signing LJ is not a high stakes issue at this point, imho, so if we can swap second round spots then TD is as close to pure genius on the off-season part of deal making than any GM in the game today. Period.
I completely agree with this post.

>>>Okay folks. We now know a little bit more about the market for Travis.<<<
I dont know exactly what you mean by the above.
Anyway, mark me down for whatever we can get.

I am sorry, but I missed this.
I hope it isn't too late to tell you that I am elated to hear good news such as this, and may God bless you all.

Miami vs. Buffalo, 1994. I believe it was Columbus Day Weekend. The Bills won by 10 or so points. Dan Marino threw a 40 yard out pattern over the Bills defenders' outstretched hand. It was one of the best passes I have ever seen to this day.
I fell in love with RWS and WNY and have been back every year since. I cannot wait until the schedule comes out!

Joe, despite the name of the town, there are no farms; it is a residential community in which homeowners pay an average of $6,000 per year for a modest house.
The immigrants, and again, there are thousands of them, place their kids in the schools. Guess who pays for this, and their medical care?
Perhaps my view is simplistic, but from where I sit it looks like corporations gouging the taxpayers and getting the benefits while people like our families bear the cost.

This best represents what I feel has slipped by the eyes of the Henry detractors. While spending all that time telling us about his many flaws and how terrible he is, they failed to see him actually become a good pass receiver (right down to the play he got injured on last year) and improve his fumble numbers greatly over the past 2 seasons. As stated, no, he does not compare to Willis in his completeness, but his improvements have been missed.
OK, then let me ask you this....where are the trade offers? One poster thinks that he can "easily" gain 1500 yards. Again, where are the offers?
Serious question: If a team, any team, called TD and offered up a 2nd round pick for TH, do you think that TD would take it? You see, I do, especially with the draft creeping up, yet he is still on the team.
My point is that if TH was as highly regarded around the league as he is on this board, this conversation would be a moot point. He would already have been traded to another team for a high pick or a good player.

OK, let me put what I am saying in a friendlier way....
UPS is thriving. The employees work very hard and are well compensated. These are good things.
At UPS and DHL, the workers have seniority rights. This does not mean that they take it easy all day, as I am certain you have seen while employed there. Without this kind of stability, it is difficult for a person to make a marital committment and support his or her children.
Non-Union companies have an easier time firing people as they age and/or get sick. Believe it or not, this will happen to you some day.
While reading one of your postings, I recall being impressed by your education. I also respect you quite a bit for working at a hard, physically demanding job while attending school. That said, I find no reason for you to begrudge those who are perhaps less accomplished than you will be in all probability.
I cited UPS as an example of a Labor/Management situation that can work for both sides. If the service was THAT bad, UPS would not be expanding all over the world.
My friendly (albeit unsolicited) advice to you is to continue to work hard and achieve. I am confident that you will do so.
At the same time, please try not to think so little of those unable to soar to your heights. There is just no need for it.

It's amazing to hear people regurgitate the same tired lies.
Illegal immigration is a terrible problem in this country and its not the lettuce pickers and landscapers who sneak across that we really need to worry about. It's the thugs and terrorists and the politicians who continue to turn a blind eye to same.
This is a problem that will not stop thanks to our loving, caring politicians.
The repubs view these people as cheap labor for their corporate friends. When it comes time for medical benefits, who pays? Oh yeah....you and me.
The dems view them as potential voters. Some, like the Clintons, also view them as cheap labor for their corporare friends, such as Wal-Mart and Tyson Foods; two Arkansas based companies that have been jammed up for hiring illegals.
In Suffolk County NY, there is a town named "Farmingville." Years ago, there was a large Portuguese enclave. Some residents tell stories of having to hide relatives in their basements because Immigrations chased them down.
Today, several hundred, perhaps a thousand illegal aliens line the streets of Farmingville each and every day waiting for contractors to pick them up for day labor. This happens right in front of the police. Residents have complained to Immigrations, and some were told to "move" if they were unhappy from what I am told. They refuse point blank to enforce the law, and residents get zero help from elected officials, except for one.
New County Executive Steve Levy proposed that some Suffolk County Police Officers be deputized as Marshalls, in order to deport ONLY violent felons. For his trouble, Mr. Levy was called a racist, etc. by leftists.
As I said, this issue is not going away. It is just another tool for politicians to drive down labor costs, serve their friends, and perhaps hire a cheap nanny to raise their kids.

Wow, Mike Mamula!
As I recall, he was slated to go in the 2nd or even 3rd round. Then, he went to the combines and was SO great at everything, he wound up being selected 9th overall. The thing is, everyone at the combines was so giddy over his numbers, the fact that he was unable to play football slipped right by them.
I dont know enough about Jones to put him in this class, but Mamula is the poster boy for placing too much emphasis on times and numbers in the combines and not enough on the football field.

>>>Protestantism has much to be proud but it's intrinsic defect is that it persists that if it is mildly ritualistic it must be wrong= Roman Catholic.<<<
I think that now would be a good time to quit while you are ahead.
I will refrain from any criticism of Catholocism. Will you please do the same about Protestantism?

>>>>Overall, pledgers were six times more likely to have oral sex than teens who have remained abstinent but not as part of a pledge.<<<<
So why not take a time out to thank your hero....Bill Clinton?

How can Brady "take them to the bank"? He's technically not a free agent for another 2 years and the only reason the Pats are reworking his contract is to give him a modest pay increase AND get some salary cap relief.
Even if they dont come to terms and he goes to F/A in 07, the Pats can still franchise him.
Keep thinking wishfully.
TH, the day that NE has to designate TB a "franchise" player, their run is officially over. Period. Please, look at the contracts of Vick and Manning.
The above is not meant in any way what NE has achieved, but good things dont last forever. Know what I mean?
Jmo, but from where I sit, NE is a wildcard team at best in 05. Hey, it's about time.

The problem with Bush's slave labor plan is that it's basically having the U.S. import people while exporting jobs. The net effect is a direct assault on the American worker; especially the unskilled American worker. It became clear in the presidential debates that BOTH candidates had sold out to corporate interests on the immigration issue.
OK, that too was a great post!

as I said, Teflon Tom will pick who they have graded as the best talent available. Need will become a factor when the talent is very close between a few players.
As I've also posted, the draft is critical to obtaining future difference makers at affordable cost. Free agency will be used to fill holes with serviceable talent.
Do you realize that you just completed a posting without blaming Drew Bledsoe for something?
Seriously, are you feeling OK?

i worked for UPS and was a member of the teamster's union
i would highly recommend you ship your packages via fedex
i interviewed at fedex and would've taken the job since they had higher pay and they treat your packages "as if they were your won" according to the managers (and they really do) except the hours were terrible 1am-5am M-F...at the UPS interview, they were slamming down packages like TD celebrations and throwing boxes (sometimes with computers in them) around...but hey, as long as you don't steal something, you're all good...took the UPS job because hours were better...would've preferred to have not lost a huge chunk of my paychecks to the union, but meh...i needed part time work as a college student
another reason why UPS, USPS, DHL, etc. employees are paid well are...well, you certainly can't outsource this labor
What a sad story. I have a large amount of sympathy for you. I view your saga as simply heart warming. Can you feel it?
It is oh so simple to tell idealistic tales of woe when one is a kid. An adult would be happier to work for a union shop which offers security, better medical coverage and a superior retirement plan for his or her family.
UPS is not suffering. Both the company and the workers are thriving, but please do not let this stop you from telling us more melancholy sob stories, nor pushing your anti-labor views.

>>>I would also say, that if you had a healthy Travis in there this year, WITH all the other factors (the coaching, Evans, the line, the defense, the ST) and no Willis, the results would have been much closer to what they actually were compared to if you just stuck Willis in place of Henry on the 2003 team. What say you to that?<<<
I would say that nothing could be farther from the truth. It is hard for me to believe that you are putting this forth in a serious manner.
Henry is a career loser. Look at his w/l record. Willis is superior in each and every phase of their position. Why do you think that TD drafted Willis after TH had the big stats? Because there was no need? Because Travis is such a good RB?
Please. Travis is a dog. He is a flea bitten dog to boot, and this is why we as Bills fans are hoping to trade him for an injured under acheiver.
-
He scores TDs in large numbers, too, which is the object of the game. That is like saying "other than throwing a ton of strikes and having a great ERA, this pitcher is just bad and we should get rid of him." And try not to say "he doesn't win" because it is a team game and with your analogy, we should dump the entire team, especially Takeo Spikes, because none of them "win".
To further the pitcher analogy, it is safe to say that Henry is like a pitcher who throws a ton of strikes and has a great ERA but commits way too many errors, can't field all that well, doesn't strike out enough batters, and sometimes gives up untimely homeruns which keeps him just a very good or good player from being a great player, which people who quote his strike throwing and ERA often wrongly state that he is.
It is also OK to win games in which a particular pitcher starts, right?
The Bills did not start to consistently win games until they benched Travis Henry and went with Willis, who does every single thing better than Henry.
C'mon, try again.

So you are happy with his blitz pickups, blocking, ball handling, receiving, and pass route running?
Like I said, his "skills" are obviously poor.

This posting is of course based on the premise that a deal will be completed.
Badolbilz called Shelton " a below average LT with a chronic ankle injury."
AKC questioned whether or not Shelton could even survive our final cuts.
R.Rich was a bit more kind, and said that he is very strong and very slow (I am paraphrasing).
I can remember VERY few trades involving LTs. Teams, in general, just wont give them up. Leon Gray was part of the Eric Dickerson trade. Roaf was traded to KC, but there were some serious problems as I vaguely recall. I know there were probably other trades, but none that I remember.
The above, and the opinions of our resident "experts" lead me to expect little from LS. I cannot see why it would take a quality LT AND A PICK for a team to acquire Travis Henry given the scarcity and value of even a somewhat above average LT (Jennings and his contract for example).
In summary, if this trade happens, my hopes are sky high, but my expectations for Shelton are not.

From what I've been told by UPS drivers, you are correct.
One has to wonder, though. Are they paid well and receive good benefits because of their union, or because of the competition. You have FedEx and UPS, then suddenly the postal service is in the mix with their great pay and bennies (my brother carries in Long Island), and then you have DHL making a push.
To get good people you must take good care of them...regardless of what the union says.
I'm not saying the union doesn't have a hand in your example. I just think competition lends a stronger hand.
Well, the USPS and DHL are also unionized. This is a growing field due to internet shopping, but I am thinking that if the union was at a state of war with UPS, things would not be running as smooth for either party.

Other than running (although in 04 he was better known for falling untouched and sliding), the skills of TH were proven to be bad, not good.
I dont know just how much you expect for TH, but it appears to be evident at this point that there is not a whole lot of interest around the league.
I wish they would dump him and move on.

Erie County Union Heads No Show

Come now Darin. His knowledge of FedEx consists of what managers told him. That is what he said. He does not claim to have actually seen how they treat packages, yet he took a stance (much to your delight I am sure) against a success story, unionized company.
Seriously, does the fact that unionized workers at UPS are fairly compensated for working hard bother you? Do you scorn each and every union and/or their members? Or, are you just going off on a hair splitting tangent?
Man, where is DC Tom, the master of hair splitting tangents?
