1. Kiper's list is a good starting point. The 49ers have quite a few needs and it's tough to say where they'd go.  If they lose Julian Peterson in free agency Derrick Johnson from Texas might be the pick but I don't see him worthy of the top pick, he's more of a top 10 prospect. They also need a WR and Mike Williams or Braylon Edwards would definately are considered top 10 and maybe even top 5 material. Their O-line is also a mess OTs Alex Barron and Jamaal Brown are the top two OTs in the draft but again there's questions if either be worth the top pick. CB ANtrelle Rolle fits a need but again is a CB worth taking 1st overall? With all that said I think, if he declares, underclassman DE Mathias Kiwanuka might be the best fit for the top pick. He's got size, speed and the skills to be another Jevon Kearse.

RBs Cedric Benson and/or Carnell Williams definately deserve top pick consideration as well but the 49ers don't need a RB.

Jokeman, how high do you expect Barron to go?

Also, have you considered working with R.Rich on the TBD draft boards? I would love to see you and Badolbilz over there to offer insights and give him some help over there.

The three of you could turn it into something big imo. :D

  2. How's about Tait?

He is a big improvement over Jonas, still young and while he play RT, can easily slide to the left side.  Let him and Big Mike battle for the LT spot and the other stays on the right side.

BTW is Woody a FA again this year?  If so, that would be nice for our LG.

    194336

You mean Tait who was on KC in 03? I could be wrong VA, but I think that the Bears (or someone else) gave him more than 30 million dollars last year, no?

  3. Drew is 28-68 against winning teams in his career.

He is 23-25 overall in Buffalo.

Fez, what is it going to take for you to agree that this guy is not a good NFL quarterback???

    194219

BF, I am NOT trying to convince you that Drew does not suck. That seems impossible. Please, do tell me this:

Does it matter one iota to you that in 3 seasons, Drew:

    1) Played 2 of 3 years for a rookie headcoach, one of whom sucked.

    2) Played in the Gilbride system for 2 years.

    3) Had NO blocking for 2 years, and some of this year before Mcnally did his job.

    4) Lost Moulds for much of last season.

    5) Had no decent #2 receiver last year.

Do you consider the above when you deny that the 10th all time yardage qb is a good NFL qb, or are you just throwing things out there?

  4. i just scan your posts for the "travis sucks" part and then feel all is right with the world.

    194198

You think that was a crusade? That was nothing. You should have been here before McNally came along and helped an OL that sucked for at least 9 or 10 years.

Besides, you missed it. Travis and Moulds are going to Oakland for their #1. :D

  5. I love OL posts!! :P

MW was an LT in college, and dominant at that too. Maybe he has turned into a roadgrading RT more than a pass blocking LT, so the move isn't 100% great, but I think warrants as much consuderation as trying to go with Price at LT.

Depth is going to be crucial for sure, which is why the coaches had up to 13 Tackles in camp this year... Clearly they saw a need to work out as many guys as possible...

Jason Peters could be an option if he can handle it, but only for depth at Tackle... I think he's a TE in a OL body and as such may not be cut out for full-time NFL OL play.

I for one don't think that Jennings will be gone... So all of that is moot. :D

    194168

Nick, MW was in fact a RT in college, but for a left handed qb.

  6. No matter what 2004 starters are around next year, we need much better DEPTH in the offensive line. That may have been the single biggest problem for the team in 2004. The subs came in and straight out stunk.

    194150

    Truer words were never spoken.

I am looking at Teague, Tucker, Free Agent, CV, and Big Mike. We might also see a FA at LG, or perhaps a top pick.

I for one do not ever see Big Mike at LT, but this is jmo.

  7. Hey, i am just happy that BillfromNYC managed to post twice without a Travis Henry sucks comment in it.....talk about a crusade.  Should the word "crusade" be replaced by "fezmid".  This does seem to qualify.

    194173

Well, I am glad that somebody reads my posts. :D

It is good to be noticed, thanks.

  8. And declare it before camp.

Last year, HC Lewis did that with Palmer.  You can imagine the howling here, with Kitna having a fine season, and a team that hit .500 after a decade in the toilet.

Palmer didn't take a single game snap in 2003.  He sat and watched.  He didn't get much if any work with the first team in practice.

Going into '04, he got the camp snaps. He got most of the pre-season snaps.

And he got pummeled in the first half of the season - 1 and 4 start, and 3 - 5 after eight games. Then he started to come around.

The Bills should do the same with Losman.

    194052

What makes you think that Losman is even almost as good as Palmer?

It seems to me that no scouts nor GMs did.

  9. I don't know about that.  By all accounts, the Jacksonville offense were not "Big Boys."  We sure as hell couldn't stop them though, and that drive didn't even include any running by Fred Taylor, if I remember correctly.

I go back and forth on whether losing Gray would be the worst thing in the world.  We've seen improvement, but we also see critical lapses.  And our coverage, especially in nickel situations, has not always been stellar considering we have a former DB at the helm.  Maybe I am not giving Gray enough credit, but I wouldn't mind seeing Krumrie get the job if Gray leaves.  What better way to say out loud that we are going to have a tough defense?

    194011

Agreed on Gray, but I lean toward keeping him. I like his demeanor after having sat up close. He is in full command of the defense, and will have undoubtably learned from his mistakes.

Krumrie is my favorite Bill, but I wonder if he is sane enough to run the defense. :D If so, that would make for some GREAT TV footage. TK is one intense human.

  10. The criticism of every fan on every team that hasn't made the playoffs for any substantial period of time is "dump the QB" and when that doesn't work they move on to "dump the coach".  That is the nature of the beast.  Football is a complicated game, too complicated for most people to have the time to come up with anything more than "dump the QB".

Lets take a hypothetical sack of Drew Bledsoe and how the coaches look at it compared to what the crusaders conclude:

Coaches:  The weakside backer was blitzing so the slot reciever was supposed to break off his route to the inside into the space being vacated by the blitzer.  Instead, he ran a deep curl while Drew watched his back waiting and waiting for him to break off the route.  The blocking scheme called for the RB and the LT to double team the backer with the rest of the line sidling to that side so that the LG was on the DE, the C on the DT and the RG on the NG/MLB.  Instead, the LT stayed on the DE who was now blocked by two guys leaving the RB one on one against the blitzer and we lost the match-up.  Drew failed to realize early enough that the slot man blew the hot read so by the time he went to another receiver, he was getting hit.

    Crusaders:  Drew is a statue.

    193998

Wake up Mickey. Drew is to blame for everything. Also, Losman is great. What is your problem?

  11. >>>>> Drew takes a pay cut, stays, and backups up JP by the 3rd game if not earlier.<<<<<

Well that settles that. Losman is not only starting caliber, he is great.

Thanks. For a while I was worried that he might have to prove that he is able to play in the NFL at all.

I am glad that you cleared this up.

  12. Well when you define a "major" game so narrowly, then MOST QBs choke in every major game they play.  I was under the impression that every game of the 6 game winning streak was a "major" game, but because they were wins they don't "count" since every game after the previous was more and more important.

Let's say that we beat the Steelers and make hte playoffs, but lose in the first round.  I can guarantee that nobody would say the Pittsburgh game was a "major" game anymore, and everyone would complain (and thread-hijack) about DB losing the "most important game of the season."

Setting the goal to a Superbowl victory is fine.  Saying that anything less than the win is a crappy season is not.

The last paragraph of your post is interesting. ICE was the one who imo started the mindset that anything less than a SB win constitutes a failure. He did this to be "right" of course, but a surprising number of posters seem to have bought into this nonsense.

As for winning "big game'" this, imo, is just utter nonsense.

NEWS FLASH: All of our 6 straight wins were "big games!" Hello?

It used to be we couldn't win on the road. Remember? We had what, 4 road wins this year?

Like I said, it will not go away so we may as well just get used to the hate.

  13. Yes, there will certainly be an endless qb debate similar to RJ/Flutie.

Imo, the striking difference is that the Drew haters want to place a talented football team into the hands of a slight, possibly frail rookie qb with zero experience. Now THAT is what I call hate.

If this team is healthy in 05, it will be better than the 04 Bills. The OL has a coach finally, MM will have a year under his belt, Gray will be more prepared, the STs are great, and Travis Henry will be gone.

The fact that you haters want to put all of this into the hands of an untested kid or a known loser (Maddox) is astounding. I truly believe that much of this hate is because he is an ex-Patriot

The debate is fine, but can we at least see if Losman can play, or stay in one piece for that matter before we hand him the keys to the family sedan?

Many of you haters think that Losman being great is a given. Well, it is far from it, but whatever.

  14. I am 26 years old and every person I know yells at me about smoking.  I knew it was time to quit so I did on New Year's Eve.  Now I hate everything.

If I am irrational and argue like a complete fool, there is your explanation.

    and I apologize.

    :D

A good method of quitting is to visit one of the now nearly empty bars in NY State. If you light up a cigarette, "health inspectors" will probably burst in and beat the sh-- out of you. Then, they will summons the bar owner for allowing smoking and "Ashtray Possession." It sure is great to live in a "liberal" state! :I starred in Brokeback Mountain:

PS: Good Luck, and stick to it!

  15. Yep. Average players on an average team.

I think that the point of the offseason is to go into the next season with better players. Not maintain a level of indistinct mediocrity.

    193002

Dude, one (Denney) is an inexpensive backup. The other two are extrordinary special teams players that dont cost too much. What's the prob? ;)

  16. ID your post is well taken.

I have stated before that imo, the numbers look better than the player. I credit the Gilbride offensive idiocy for much of the stats that TH was admittedly able to compile. I think that defenders were charging through a porous OL virtually unobstructed on a quest to kill qb who does not move well, and when TH got the ball he could run by them and gain yards. He IS hard to tackle when he has a head of steam, and I never said otherwise.

I WANT to be wrong about his trade value. Another 3rd could perhaps get us into round 1 if coupled in a trade somehow. That would be great! I love the Bills and want us to get the best players!

Having said that, I expect a 5th round pick or less, perhaps even an outright release. I hope that we will both be here to discuss what does happen, and again, my wish is that you and not I are correct about his trade value.

    GO BILLS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  17. Moulds has already proven to be both loyal and fair. TD typically does not overpay for talent, but he also does not insult them with a lowball offer. I think if restructuring is necessary, then they will get it done. I really think we'd miss Moulds if he were gone.

    192783

Very good post. This is something that I think will work out well for both the Bills and EM. That said, Evans, imo, should be the "go to" guy next year. The guy gets open, and he can friggin fly!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  18. Are you serious?

After the way this team played on defense, special teams and offense in addition to Drew against the Stiller scrubs, you are telling me this team is a QB away??  Are you telling me that had we had a stud QB other than Drew, we would have WON that game?  PUHLEASE!

The defense couldn't stop 3rd and 4th stringers when it counted the most, letting them grind 8 plus minutes off the clock in the 4th quarter when everyone in the house KNEW they were going to pound the ball.  Special teams played their worst game of the season, receivers dropped passes and made key mistakes (i.e. the pass interference penalty).  We have insufficient depth at O-line and it showed when Villarial had to leave the game.  Running backs missed blitz pick-ups and Shaud Williams fugged up that misdirection play (that shouldn't have been called in the first place).  The play-calling was horrendously over-conservative as the DBs were sitting on those short routes all day.

But oh, if we only had a STUD QB we would be heading for the Superbowl now.

    RRRRRRRRRIIIGHT!

    192367

Right friggin on BB! This WAS the best post of the day!

Btw, I addressed you personally in a thread I started. :)
