1. Will everyone still feel the same about this team and this season if the Bills lose to the Steelers sunday?

What kind of taste will it leave in your mouth.

My own personal thoughts on it are this.  If we win and don't get in I'm fine with that, but if we lose and COULD have gotten in with a Jets loss or Denver loss (assuming one of them happens) I will be very upset.

Good post, and I agree, but I would still view the season as something of a success. Remember, MM was a rookie, and this seemed to matter early on.

What I WOULD like to know is why it took so long to insert MaGahee into the lineup. Was WM not healthy, or was the switch delayed in order to soothe the ego of an inferior player?

The latter would truly piss me off, but as I said, MM is a rookie.

  2. No, it's the arm.  He was exposed late in the 2002 season on a Monday nighter when he wound up for a last second "Hail Mary" from 45 yards out and the ball landed at the 10 yard line.  From that point on, good teams have held up on his offspeed stuff and sat on his fastball.  Take away the easy completions and make him throw outs and deep stuff to beat you.  Pennington was on a remarkable roll, but a couple weeks later the Raiders made him look awful in the playoffs.

The guy is remarkably accurate, well prepared and reads a defense with the best of them but his noodle arm betrays him.  He wishes it was something else, because he hasn't been able to improve his arm strength.  He put a great deal of effort into strengthening his arm last offseason and the results were unnoticeable until he hurt his shoulder against the Bills.

With regard to Hackett,  I think Hackett goes out of his way to cover up Pennington's weaknesses.

Badol, local reporters and radio announcers are also claiming that his rotar cuff is injured. Do you see any chance of the rams dbs being able to cheat and stay closer to the line and hamper the running game?

  3. 1) Big Sam Adams: When his game is on, there are very few interior linemen that I have ever seen that can stop this huge, intense football player.

    2) Ron Edwards: He is strong and smart. He allows Big Sam and PW to stay fresh, AND he makes plays.

    3) CV: We FINALLY have a right guard.

    4) Yes, Drew Bledsoe: Hate him as you will, but he has been here before.

    5) The Change At Running Back: I am being kind here. Can you feel it?

    6) The Lawyer and Vincent: See #4.

    7) TKO and London: These guys are obviously great.

    8) The Special Teams: They are truly special.

    9) The Coaches: getting better every week.

    10) Special mention to coach Krumerie. He will probably show up to RWS wearing a T-Shirt and shorts. This might be the toughest man on the planet, and I honestly believe that every football team needs someone like TK. This obviously is a tough game, and after watching him from the first row, Coach K is as real as it gets.

    GO BILLS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!DO IT FOR TSW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  4. Yeah, TE is an area that could use a lot of improvement.  It's easy to get enamored or even just be satisfied with the talent at a position when the team is on a roll, but objectively, even with Campbell and Euhus healthy it was a position that lacked a true difference maker at TE.

I don't expect much from either player next year, and if Bledsoe is going to be the QB the team should look to add a playmaker to that position if possible.  Unfortunately, not a particularly good TE draft.  Free agents like Big Bubba and Marcus Pollard are good, but they have both been somewhat disappointing players and you have to be leery about paying big dollars for guys who their teams aren't all that thrilled with.

I'm anxiously awaiting the first "Trade Travis Henry for Antonio Gates" post.

    183014

Not unless SD throws in a 1st round pick.

How does the 05 draft look for OC, RG and RB?

  5. I think we need to beat the Steelers and get some lucky bounces LONG before I'll answer a question like this.

    183022

LA, I agree, but I am confident about the Bills going into this game. The "needing help" part is what bugs me. You know why? Because there is not a football team in the NFL that scares me as a Bills fan right now. Not effing one.

    GO BILLS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  6. Looks promising

The above place advertises having NFL Sunday Ticket (I have never been there).

There is also a place called "Seven Barrel Brewery" that might be worth calling - also in West Lebanon (Exit 20).

    183009

Great work! I just called and they said that the game will be on unless it is "blacked out." My daughter knows the street it is on.

Whoa.....thank you for your help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It just might work.

  7. My daughter needs to be up in school on monday, 1/3/05. Her school is in Hanover, NH. Once, I was up there and there was NOWHERE to watch the Bills on DTV. I tried White River Junction, Vt. and other nearby towns to no avail.

    1) Is the game being televised on local TV up there?

    2) Does anybody know a sports bar in that area?

    Thanks.

  8. I don't understand the whole purpose of this thread.  The Bills are playing great one game from the playoffs, and you bring up TH?  How many games did the Bills go without a running TD before Willis came in?  What was it, 10, or 14 or some number like that.  If TH can get a lot more yards with NE, Willis could get 1,000 more than him, if you want to speculate.  And the fact is, TH DOESN'T play with NE, and had his chance to do it here.  He didn't.  Willis steps in with the same cast, and racks up the yards.  If Willis started the whole season, he may have more yards than Dillon.  Maybe then people in Boston papers would say, "if Dillon played for Buffalo, how many yards would he have?".

What were you looking to accomplish with this thread?

    182233

Call me paranoid, but I think that it was meant ever so slightly scold me for my refusal to toe the "Travis is Great" line.

Also, there have been debates on TSW as to what TH would bring us in a possible trade. Speculation has ranged from a top 5 pick (and I kid you not) to his flat out release.

I am in the middle and would hope for a 5th rounder.

  9. pretty worried.

I think the Rams are our best shot.  But damn, they looked flat last night.  How the hell can you look flat when you are at home, on MNF, fighting for a playoff spot?  And quite frankly, they looked pretty awful.  So much talent on that team, but yet, look pretty weak!

Anyone think it can happen?  I don't think the Colts will show in Denver, so this SL game is our chance I think!

Make your case here for the Rams, and as always.....

    MORE COWBELL for the Rams!

    182139

    1) Pennington is said to have a bad throwing arm. Perhaps this will enable dbs to cheat a step or 2.

    2) John Abraham is hurt.

    3) Orlando Pace will give Bulger time, and open holes for the run.

    4) The jests have a history of folly and collapse.

  10. Let me see if I understand this... YOU are embarrassed by MY posts about Henry?

If this was not rhetorical, I suggest that you really calm down.

What about the issues that I raised? Would you like to address them, or continue with stunning admissions that Henry does indeed have "liabilities?"

    >>>(and don't say it was because of all the passes, he barely played on third downs here either).<<<

The above concerns me just a bit. Are you giving me guidelines on how to discuss football issues with you?

Henry played on a Gilbride team. Defenders beat us by blitzing and practically killing Drew on almost every play. I make the contention that many (no, not all) of TH's yards were made by defenders rushing by him, sometimes unobstructed, to maul Drew. Now, with a head of steam, he was certainly hard to tackle because of his build and strength.

I have stated many times that imo, TH is not a good fit for the Bills. Yes, in the past I have gone over the edge blasting him, but have recently refrained from doing so. Be it as it may, I am not forced to think that he is a very good football player, nor are you forced to change your outlook on how he is great.

This is a good thing, no?

  11. The question is leading and loaded, becuase it leaves posters little room to do anything except join in a gushing love fest for Henry. Still, I will try to narrowly answer the question as you suggest.

He would have little to no yardage, because Belichick would have about ZERO patience for a back than cannot or will not understand the playbook. Sliding on his ass on crucial third down carries wouldn't go over too well either, wouldn't you say?

He, imo would be yanked as soon as he ran one of his many wrong pass paterns, or could not, or worse, refused to block someone on the blitz.

The pats offense seems a little too complicated for TH, or so it would seem. Imo, one of the reasons the pats are winners is the fact that they DONT have this type of one dimensional player on the field.

Come to think of it, this now applies to the Bills as well. :o

  12. I'm sorry Bill, that honestly wasn't intended to single you out. I am done doing that since I have come to better understand you and you have made your points in a much more respectable manner of late. The hatred reference was a valid point IMO and there are many that express it by using what are well beyond derogatory terms to describe the man's play...

    As for your questions.

    1) No, Henry is not as good as Dillon. I agree, and would rather have Dillon (minus attitude of course which he seems to have shed). My point was more in reference to the draft pick/trade question.

    2) I think ALL GM's will notice this as you say AND will ALSO notice that there were atleast 10 other factors that contirbuted to the Bills turn around this season (hence my point re: exaggeration.

You might rather have Bryson, but he is not 1/2 the back TH is, and in turn, TH is about 1/2 the back Willis is/ is going to be.

I still say somewhere in the second and I also feel we could benefit from keeping him, but I could be wrong on both counts.

    181368

Hey, I could be wrong too. I WANT to be!!! A #2 could be enough to move us back into the 1st round when coupled with another pick. I just do NOT see any possibility of this happening, but that does not make me "right."

Btw, Henry is a better runner than Bryson. I know this. My complaints with Henry did not involve his ability to run until this season. You and I both saw his dreadful slips and slides on crucial plays. He cost us wins.

I would prefer Bryson because he is an all around football player. This imo is something that TH is NOT, nor ever was. Again, I want to be wrong.

Let us both hope that on sunday, there is "Help on the Way."

  13. I probably would.  Lord knows documentary television hasn't produced a documentary in nearly 20 years...

    176865

Tom, is there a reason to believe that "Roger and Me" was stevestojan? As a trade unionist, I must confess that I was impressed and perhaps inspired by that film.

    What's up?

  14. Henry has far less leverage with the Bills than you give him credit for.  If Henry threatens to sit out the year,  so what?  McGahee is the starter anyway.  If Henry sits out the season,  then what good does that do him?  None.  In fact,  he'll have missed the better part of two seasons and his FA value will be down the toilet.

    181364

You are correct sir.....totally correct. I am not getting why it is is SO hard to arrive at your accurate conclusion.

  15. I agree with the fewer and fewer here who think we can get a 2nd for TH. Maybe not a high second, but somewhere in the round. Although he has flaws that obviously now have been exposed and he has not improved on (other than fumbling), those flaws are often exaggerated by folks who for some reason hate him. As positives he offers a tough, physical style, and good quickness. He never gives up and is a team oriented player as I have seen it. On a team with a fair to good passing game, he can compliment with a 1300 to 1400 10 TD season. There are bound to be plenty of coaches out there who think they can "fix" him.

    181345

Come on, lets talk turkey here, OK? Forget the "hatred" slaps, all right? How about if you and I just discuss this from a football standpoint, and NOT, ala ICE, make this a thing about who is "right?'

I guess that there are two questions that I would like to put forth:

    1) Can you, in a serious manner, make the assertion that Travis Henry even approaches Corey Dillon in terms of who is a better running back? In other words, are you GLAD that we have Henry in lieu of Dillon?

    2) Do you think that NO GMs will notice that the Buffalo Bills football team started winning as soon as Henry was graciously removed from the starting lineup?

I ask these questions in context of making the statement that imo... yes, merely my opinion, that there is no way on earth that Henry will bring us a 2nd round pick. Again, I love the Bills, and hope to be proven wrong. Meanwhile, I would rather have Sean Bryson on the Bills than Henry. How about you?

  16. So?  The Bills will theoretically get a specific pick in the 2nd round for Henry as well.  I'm not even talking about 2006, unless it's to tack on a conditional pick, a la the Dols and RW.

Using Dillon as a comparison, taking a look at their last 4 years with their original teams (i.e. 2000-2003 for Dillon and 2001-2004 for Henry which is his entire career), Dillon has 753 more yards, but 1 fewer TD.  He was also 30-1/2 versus Henry who will be 26.5.  And as for fumbles, Henry had just 3 last year showing he improved in that area.

Droughns plays for Denver, who always has a good running attack.  As for Goings, he's the exception, not the rule.  He was their 5th or 6th RB at the start of the season so even THEY didn't know what they had.  People will know what they're getting in Henry.

Not even close.  At worst the Bills will get a straight-up high 3rd for Henry, but I'm betting a straight-up 2nd that conditionally becomes a 1st.  There is no pressure to trade him like there was with Faulk and unlike with Dillon, the market for him will be good.  And no way he gets released when he's making just $1.25M next year.  That's insane.  At worst the Bills keep him for the year if they don't get a pick they like and let him become an UFA after the season.

    181321

Your post is well thought and I thank you for taking the time to share it. Forgive me if mine is more to the point.

Are you, in any conceivable way, trying to compare the abilities of travis henry to those of Corey Dillon? I hope not, because one sucks, and the other is great.

  17. It's an unfortunate truth that Travis on the bench has made the Bills better on the field. Willis is at least a willing, and sometimes very effective, backfield blocker who is always moving to find the unblocked rusher. Travis on the other hand has trouble stopping guys he knows he'll be responsible to block from before the start of the play.

You hate to pick on a guy who ran hard for us through minor nicks and major dings but the simple change in running styles between he and Willis has made all of our OLine talent look better. Travis gets the ball runs into whatever is in front of him, Willis gets ball/reads field/makes decisions. Both ran hard, but only one runs with excellent instincts and dare I say smarts.

None of this though should diminish the fact that Chris Villarial is the real deal in run blocking, a tenacious player who never clocks out before the whistle. I'd go so far as to credit his aquisition as a more important personnel move than the selection of Lee Evans in giving us an offense that shares the credit with our other units in improving to become a good football team today. Of course in the long run Evans will be horse that sells the jerseys- and no doubt rightfully so in the future, but for my money, this season, Villarial has been the big impact guy.

AKC, thank you for this post. I agree with every word, and you were being kind wrt Henry.

CV is a very good RG. The Buffalo Bill have not had one for at least 10 years, and we are seeing just how important this position is.

This signing, imo, ranks up there with those of Paup and Speilman. Admittedly, it is harder to witness the results with an untrained eye, but CV is just an asset to this football team, and I hope that he stays healthy. We TRULY need this guy.

  18. Posts such as this amaze me.

Do you think that opposing GMs will NOT notice that the Buffalo Bills football team not only started winning football games, but became dominant only after Henry was benched? Are you kidding?

Travis Henry is worht little more than a used condom. That said, if there is a GM out there who is provincial enough to offer the Bills anything, TD will take it and fast. I suspect a 5th, if we are lucky.
