1. speaking of steroids, today on Mike and Mike, they stated that MLB's "mandatory" 10 day suspension for first failed test may be substituted for a $10,000 fine. They averaged it out - an AVERAGE 10 day suspension would cost a player $180,000. They are ALREADY backing down.

Is this a fact? If so, it is just further proof that the owners condone steroid use.

Any way you slice it, 500 foot home runs do sell tickets, advertisements, etc.

  2. Yes, actually.  Seau does have a natural build.  Your point is invalid.  Not everyone in the NFL uses ROIDS.  Some realize that destroying your body for a few good years is not worth it.  Besides, the best players of all time (Jerry Rice, Jim Brown, Walter Payton, Steve Largent) the list could go on and one... never touched the stuff.

    276231

You left Lawrence Taylor off your list. Any special reason?

  3. For what little it is worth, I am friends with a doctor who performs drug tests. He told me that not all roid users have 20 inch arms, etc., and that there are thousands of different types, as well as drugs to hide them on test results.

Andy Petit has a normal body with tree trunk thighs. Alphonso Soriano hit what, 40 home runs for the Yankees? Cynical perhaps, but I dont see this stuff as an accident.

  4. What leads you to believe that almost every NFL player is NOT on steroids of one type or another?

Call me crazy, but I dont see how a person can develop a body like C. Bennett or Andre Reed. How about Bruce? How much did he weigh when he entered the NFL?

Whatever it was, something caused Ruben Brown to lose approx. 30 lbs, or so it would seem.

This is not to single out Bills. Does Seau look like he has a "natural" build?

Like I said, I am guessing that almost all of them either have dabbled with, or are consistently taking roids.

  5. That sucks for them.  This isn't a very deep class of TEs.  They'll either have to look at a free agent or take a flyer on a project.

Thanks man. I am always pleased to see the jests take a hit.

You know, Martin had a great year but he has lots of miles on those legs, and Jordan is gone as we know.

"Blocking TEs" ARE good to have! I think that the most under rated Bill of all time might very well have been Pete Metzalaars.

We have not had a real TE since his departure.

  6. He was D MVP in 1995.  Jaguars used him to cover downfield instead of rushing the passer.  What a waste that was.  Too bad we couldn't keep him.

BTW, Bruce was the 1996 MVP due in large part to Paup.  Phil Hansen helped heaps too.  Wow, what a group that was!

    275792

Bryce was finished after his groin injury.

When he was MVP, he was as good as it gets. His arms were as long as trees, and he was as strong as an ox.

He got great angles while rushing the passer, and he was simply brutal. He had 17.5 sacks that season, and they were punishing.

It was great to be at RWS and watch him crush qbs.

  7. I agree and disagree. In 05, the Bills have handed the qb job to an unknown commodity. This is true, despite posters having him penciled into Canton, and likening him to Joe Montana.

They also lost their starting LT, and gave away their 1st round draft pick. Does this sound good to you?

I dont blame posters for looking ahead to some degree.

I do not give up on the Bills in 05. MM has much needed experience under his belt. TH will not be the starting RB. Kelsay is a year older. We still have a nice defense and punter.

In summary, good things ARE happening, but alot does ride on an unproven qb, and trying to fill the LT spot....this with not so much cap room and no first round pick.

How good does this sound to you?

  8. The next time I purchase an automobile, I WILL be factoring in the UAW's decision to screw over MARINES because they don't agree with who they VOTE FOR or what kind of car they drive.

That Benz 320 is looking sweeter every day.

    275177

And I do not blame you one iota. My entire point was that if they choose to exclude foreign cars from their parking lot, they should have the right to do so.

As for the bumper sticker, this is inexcuseable.

  9. Nate can only leave if the Bills do not come to an agreement AND choose to not use the franchise tag. Nate Clements is the exact type of player you use the franchise tag on. This way they get him for at least two more seasons. It seems everyone has forgotten this loophole.

    275095

I respectfully disagree. Someone posted that the hit for a CB would be more than 8.8 million gauranteed!

Davis tried this with Woodson and it bit him in the a$$, when he signed for 10 mil (120% of his previous contract). He gets this HUGE cash and is a ufa next year all over again.

Imo, cb is just THE wrong position at which to use the tag.

  10. And I'm sure not one of them owns anything in their house made in a foriegn country.  Yeah.  Right.  Nothing more than hypocritical bullies.

You support them telling a young Marine who makes about $1200 a month what kind of car he can afford to drive?  Uh, OK.

    275077

Come on AD. Do you truly believe that I would want to dictate to a soldier what type of automobile to purchase? My post says nothing of this.

I did not institute this parking policy, but support their right to implement it. Apparently, the policy is nothing new, but if you want to use it as a cause to attack me, or distort what I posted, you should.

  11. >>>Just a few short years after a massive salary cap purge that left them fielding the worst roster in the NFL, the Bills just went over .500 against one of the league's toughest schedules, in the league's toughest division, with a rookie coaching staff and an inept QB.<<<

There was another player who was even more "inept" and cost the Bills as many games as the qb, probably more.

Other than that omission, good job.

  12. >>>P.S. I'm not sure if I agree with the Bills letting PhatPat get away. I realize I'm biased in that he is one of my favorite all-time players and I realize that he is on the downward side of his career path. But I think having the NFL's premiere DT tandem was the strength of this defense and I don't think the contract he got was all that outrageous. Even with the current OLine situation, I'd feel an awful lot better aboout the next 2-3 years if we still had both those anchors at the heart of the D.<<<

Well, it will certainly change the defense. Big Sam seems like a guy who is more interested in making plays, whereas PW didn't mind occupying blockers, and of course, space.

I for one believe that the pass rush will improve. I said this once before....several times I saw AS try to stunt and take inside moves. He couldn't, because PW and SA are SOOO friggin huge, there was literally no room. :P

You are right, the money difference was not THAT big. I guess the coaches like Edwards.

  13. You mean that big long list of guys whose teams have won 0 championships since inking them to big new deals?

I don't know, how much did they take? What are their deals and when did they sign them?

And are you telling me they are all worth whatever they are being paid?

He handled both of them exactly like he should have: Offer them exactly what they're worth instead of getting caught up in some mindless bidding war to see who can overpay them by the most.

    274995

Simon, I agree with you when you stated that TD does not do "windows." He is experienced at working for less rich owners, and seems to be more interested in putting a decent team on the field every season, rather than go for that one push.

Billick was on the NFL channel this morning. He said that the Ravens are in great cap shape becausse a couple of years ago, they cleaned house and fielded the youngest team in the NFL. Now, they are signing away, seemingly ready to make another move at the title.

I am not totally sure as to which method is right or wrong but wrt JJ and PW, I am in support of those moves. We are going in essence with a rookie qb, do not have a ton of cap room, and no first round pick. 05, imo, was not the year to overspend, assuming such a time does exist.

  14. >>>>or perhaps the bills could treat him fair and not lowball him at all, giving him both a deal early and for a price that he would receive on the open market?<<<<

This point and the others in your post are well taken, but it would make sense for TD to bid low, considering that NC IS under contract, and by not extending, take a risk of losing millions due to injury.

Personally, I would be afraid to take this kind of risk. My ego would mean less than this kind of financial security for my family.

It worked for AS, and I hope it works for NC.

  15. I'm not entirely sure what you mean by that. Certainly I hold the governments of the US and UK to a higher standard since they are democracies, unlike most Islamic countries. I'm not sure that the actual populations are necessarily more civilized - certainly western countries are more developed and have a higher standard of living and this obviously has some effect on behaviour. I think most people want similar things from life, no matter where you go - a good life, a family etc... When these things are denied to them, for whatever reason, they tend to become "less civilized". I'll go back to my earlier point - was the mob that beat the truck driver to death in the race riots in LA really any much more civilized than the mob that mutiliated the bodies of the contractors in Fallujah?

    274911

From what I saw of the LA mob, they were opportunistic criminals. I remember that one of them struck the driver with a bottle, which was barbaric.

What they did not do was shoot him 9 times, carve him up, shoot him some more and leave a note on his body.

Make no mistake, I do not defend the LA mob. Were it up to me the people who did that truck driver would rot in jail, nor would I shed a tear if they were executed. I just do not see the same level of hate in your comparison.

    Jmo.

  16. i really don't understand this line of thinking........why can't the bills pay him?

and better yet, why haven't they even made an effort as of yet?

    274880

Historically, the Bills are not a team to tie up large sums of money at the cb position, and it does not seem to matter who is GM. Maybe it has something to do with RW, I dont know.

What they seem to do is draft a ton of cbs in the 1st round, such as Burress, Winfield, T. Smith, and Clements. I think that Henry Jones was even drafted as a corner.

Just based on this, the odds of keeping Nate dont appear to be strong. What I DO think is that much of it will be up to him. He could opt for security and sign early for less, as was the case for Schobel, or he could wait, which would bring more cash, but to wait is to also risk injury and get nothing.
