Look, there are exceptions both ways.  If you want to believe that he's on the positive side of that, great.  Time will tell though, not popular belief or consensus.

Take a look at the WRs picked last year in the first two rounds.

It's a mixed bag.  Quentin Johnston and Johnathan Mingo are the two that are most like Coleman and neither impressed in any way, shape, or form.

    Again, talk is cheap.

Ironic that you are saying this

Here's the full McDermott quote on Claypool:

This is extremely high praise from the normally tight lipped McDermott. No clue if it will translate on the field but it's a good sign.

Or just preparing for a trade with Seattle or SF 😁

Some people are over analyzing this move. MVS has had an important starting role on 2 Super Bowl contending teams.

We don’t know what his role will be here but arguing against the signing makes zero sense.

His career has been underwhelming, he certainly does not have the "I didn't have a QB" excuse, his catch percent is Davis-esque. The concerns are very justified, no where near "zero sense". It is very much non-zero

EJ was better statistically than Josh in every passing metric through their first year. Literally yards per game, tds, interceptions, completion percentage, not sure how you think Josh looked better though his first 8 games, EJ progressively did less and less because Marrone told him to not lose games. Josh was allowed to grow and finally had a good game as a QB vs Miami in final game of season. Your love of Marrone makes you unaware of even the most basic statistics.

You cannot be serious with this take.

Doug Marrone with Jim Schwartz at DC would've had a great team and broken the drought.

Marrone's choice of OC would have sunk that marriage. A rookie OC to pair with a rookie QB would have seriously hampered Allen's development and probably destroyed his career.

I have 1 thing.  Someone who can jack the **** out of Kelce.  I am sick of TE's being the bane of this teams existence.  First Gronk then this butt clown.

I hope Bishop can do it,but we also have Andrew's from the Ravens on the list this year as well.  But we shut down Mr. Swift down, beating KC is much easier.

I read your post to be a general question about who I would want added.

    DK Metcalf

DHop was clearly one of the 3 best in the league both before and after leaving the Texans for the cardinals.  Then hit the wall rather quickly at the age 30 mark, as many do.

Last year, with the Titans, he had 75 catches for 1000+ yards, 7 TDs .

Rumours of his career's demise are premature

    Is Hopkins even available?

At this point it is hope and speculation at best. But if @Einstein's Dog's numbers are even approximately correct , DHop is an acquirable target who can materially assist the team for this and next season with a manageable price tag.

I would like a younger player like DK Metcalf or Aiyuk but it will be a large impact on cap for next few years which will again limit the ability to sign FAs in the coming seasons. Imo, Beane has learned his lessons on that .

My guess is that if we are going to add anyone, go after DHop and slightly overpay from a draft pick perspective. That will provide a solid veteran presence , round off the skill set and allow time for Coleman to mature. We can always draft another WR high next year and keep the funnel full.

Shavers, Claypool, Cephus, Hamler are dispensable. if we are going to limit the WR room to 6, the following is a good set

    DHop

    Samuel

    Shakir

    Coleman

    MVS

    One of Hollins and Shorter

Another good WR? Who exactly are you pushing out of the top 3?

Basically you’re arguing that Brandon Beane is going to realize he signed the wrong WR and drafted the wrong WR before training camp.

Coleman hasn't played a down yet.  We all hope he plays well but there is no guarantee.  And even if he is good,  he is still a rookie.

You may trust the WR room today,  I don't.

There are none, but that doesn't mean we should be pursuing that geriatric

So you totally ignored the fact that Hopkins is just 31 . For a RB that's the end of the road but not for a WR. Plus he posted a 1000 yard season on that Titans team.

I don't know if the Titans will trade him but if they are willing, the Bills should get him. Gives him the opportunity to play another 2-3 years and ride away into the sunset with rings.

I love the fact fans are freaking out over WR. The Bills 100% made their bed. Let them lay in it. Why are people freaking out?

They signed their WR. They drafted their WR. They made their moves. Let it play out. My goodness.

Why are you freaking out about that ?

Many, including me, believe that we need another good WR and the off season isn't done yet

I think Greg is our best edge.  But i had a little higher expectation for him after being drafted.

You guys think he's reached his ceiling?

With the injuries and rotating door of players next to Oliver, it was tough for any DE to make an impact. If we have consistent pressure from the middle, I think we will see an excellent year from Rousseau and AJE. not sure yet how Von Miller will come back from injury

This isn't Beane/McD 1st rodeo.  You act like this was a "fan driven" decision.

Beane and his staff are giving him a "chance" to resurrect his career.  They see anything that is negatively impacting the team, they aren't afraid to cut him.

Just because he's signed, doesn't mean they have to hold onto him any longer than they so choose.

Claypool hasn't been a training camp distraction.  If he makes the 53, let's see how he handles himself when/if the team starts losing.

Low risk= cut him whenever you want/Low $ contract to sacrifice dead cap

They don't have a good track record of reclamation projects esp at the WR position. Sure he can be cut but imo it's wasted effort. For someone who couldn't translate his abilities into performance with 2 teams, it is very unlikely that the Bills will succeed. And takes away coaching time on a plan with low chance of success.

In the latter half of practice during a play during the team session, wide receiver Xavier Worthy ran a go route and attempted to stretch for the ball. After the play, Worthy stretched his left leg before walking gingerly to the sideline..

I am more interested in seeing how he stands up to the LOS bumping and aggressive tackling of NFL DBs. Does his body hold up? Will he keep holding on to the ball after hits?

I didn't wish injury on anyone of course but the small frame will be an issue. I think he will still make a few highlight plays, hopefully not against us

    • If there is not enough interest to get seven days of coverage the idea will die a natural death

PM me if you are interested.  If you have preference for a particular day (i.e. you want Tuesday only) please note this in the message.  Also, if you have an alternate that you prefer to work with please let me know.

    Thanks.

Good idea to try. But I think one a day is too much. Call it QOW(eek) instead and choose a day. Tuesday, Wednesday are good because there is no football on those days during the season.

I’ve been arguing with the folks here who want us to add a name WR.  They wanted Beane to acquire Aiyuk or Metcalf or OBJ or “insert the name of your favorite FA here.”

Beane is clearly throwing spaghetti at the wall and hoping one of these guys or rookie 5th rd pick (2023) Shorter sticks.  I’d have preferred that Beane go GB style and draft more receivers, but for a team on a budget Beane’s is a reasonable approach.  He’ll look like a genius if one of them really emerges and makes a contribution.

Beane did go down that route last year with Harty, Sherfield with terrible results. As others have stated here, once the Tre money comes in, it will be possible to sign DK while giving up a pick or two next year. My guess is that with so many WRs coming into the league this year, he won't command a Rd1 pick.

I am holding out hope that he chooses a vet WR like DK who can make a big difference and set a firm floor for the WR room while raising the ceiling. We all hope that Coleman is good in his rookie season but that's hope and not a strategy.

Yes but I’m talking about when they finally don’t make it to the AFCCG or superbowl- like a round 1 or 2 playoff exit. It’s crazy to think that they’ve been able to make it that far for that long. It will be interesting to see how they respond when they look mortal.

…may it be sooner than later.

We spent almost a decade saying this about TBrady and the Patriots** yet they kept winning and spanking our rears on their way to the rings.

At least now we have a great QB so instead of waiting for the Chiefs to magically wither away freakily get bounced from the playoffs too early, we should out gun them, fighting fire with bigger fire. We have to take them down in the playoffs, there is no other way.

Thats not clear but imo, the pass catchers on the Bills right now are better than those for the Chiefs last year

I think the Bills have plenty to compete for a championship.

I totally disagree with you. We are still missing one WR piece. No amount of comparison of this years versus last years players will convince me otherwise. We may have stocked up on overall receivers who can catch the same number of passes, but we still dont have the required element of speed. Yet again, we will be relying on Allen buying time to wait until someone deep gets open. Good progress this off season but not enough.

Also, @eball your thread is a repeat and you could have added to this one instead:
