Trade Peters & Trent Edwards for Jay Cutler??
davefan66 replied to Chuckknox's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
When another team initiates a trade, that means they are willing to part ways with that player. For whatever reason, be it the player has diminished skills, or just plain does not fit in that teams plans. That all means, AN INTERESTED TEAM DOES NOT NEED TO GIVE UP THE HOUSE. ie: a second round pick may be all it takes, or maybe even a third, not giving up a pro-bowl LT AND a very good young QB. -
My thoughts from the beginning, kinda helps when the Bills are your first stop. Interestingly, it's between the Phins and us, although I think he would have had more teams courting him, but he set the bar for his contract when he left the Jets with 6 million guaranteed. I do hope we sign him, not that he is the only choice, but he would be an immediate upgrade to the WR position. I like Hardy and his potential, but expect him to be a non-factor next year with the knee injury.

Radio comments are hard to provide a link for, but for what it's worth: I hate to say it, but FA is mostly about the coin. Some players will sign with a team like the *patsies for the chance to win (Taylor), then others will sign with a team stricly for the dollars (Haynesworth). Buffalo isn't that bad. We seem to have quite a few explayers from both the Bills and especially the Sabres wo still live in town. Like Tim Grahm, but if he actually said these things, maybe he should do a bit more research.

Carolina OL Geoff Hangartner signs with the Bills
davefan66 replied to kdipirro's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Dude, Favre started because Majikowski was injured. Many players in the NFL have had stellar careers based on starting for an injured player. Think maybe Khalil was the better player and Hangartner could start for many other teams? Don't really know a thing about him, but REALLY hope he pans out. -
Robert Royal To Visit Jets
davefan66 replied to BillsGuyInMalta's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Actually, I'm pretty sad Royal is gone. I loved the way he played under pressure, with those great hands of his. Man, he saved SO many games for us with those critical first down catches. I just hope he plays for the Jets, hope they sign him, as well as he played for us......serves them right.... -
I remember one game he looked below average, otherwise he played pretty well.

And we still need to throw big bucks at Peters... Signing these O-line guys to big contracts does nothing but strengthen Peters position again. -
I kinda agree. Problem is, I believe most of our O-lines problems are coaching. Mike Gandy played pretty well for the Cards. The thing the team will miss with Dockery is he is a team player and is well liked.

It's a little TOO quiet at One Bills Drive
davefan66 replied to Mike32282's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Good thing is not many players are signing today. Still plenty of players to choose from. -
I hoped for a more veteran backup. Someone who could help teach Trent. I do remember Fitzpatrick playing pretty well for the Rams having a few 300 yard plus games in a row. OK signing at best, not bad as a project, but not second string.

I want NO free agent offensive linemen
davefan66 replied to EndZoneCrew's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
hee hee, how about coaching? -
Drafting an O-lineman doesn't help us this year, rarely do they start and play with any significance. Probably can find a few lesser priced FA's, but doesn't that kinda put us back to square one?
-
Last I read Coles supposedly did not leave town. Is it confirmed either way? Also, didn't Tim Grahm confirm Birk ain't coming here?
-
With the story we tried to trade Dockery, but messed it up, and the fact we let Fowler, Preston and Whittle go concerns me. Not that they were great players, but the fact we haven't signed anyone scares me. I know free agency just started and we have plenty of time, but the list of available O-line guys is not stunning and getting a starting lineman in the draft is probalby not going to happen. Couple that with our only signing being a third string QB, we are a weaker team then the end of last season.

http://www.sportingnews.com/blog/real_scouts/ Greer to visit Detroit Friday, February 27, 2009 Posted By Albert Breer 6:32 PM Buffalo cornerback Jabari Greer is shooting for a Kelvin Hayden-like deal. And that pursuit will kick off in Detroit. Greer is slated to visit with the Lions and new head coach Jim Schwartz in the Motor City over the weekend, according to a source.

Yep. Just the type of leader Marshawn needs. I'm sure Lewis could teach him a thing or two about carrying unlicensed weapons.

Having Coles and Evans, two proven threats, would relieve some of the blitzes causing Edwards to look for the short pass, thus, allowing for deeper routes (in theory). It's like a good pass rush makes your d-backs look good also, with less coverage time needed.
-
Correct. Rather listen to a few hours of him then subject myself to the mindless drivel of Schopp and Bullcrud and Simon.

I seem to remember the receptionist at OBD gave the phone to Jim Kelly just after we drafted him, and it was the USFL trying to sign him. Actually, I think your correct. Unless Coles is using the Bills for leverage and his agent is working the phones behind our backs, I would hope he is devoting his attention to us.

I really, really hope the Bills had some plan letting Greer, Dockery, Fowler and Preston go. Not that Fowler and Preston were that great, but now we have exactly ZERO centers. I just can't believe they would hand walking papers to all of them without knowing they would land at least a center and guard in FA. Then again, I wouldn't put anything past this team.
