  1. Gee...maybe it's idiot statements like that that made his decision to leave a whole lot easier.
  2. Always thought Marv is very "Reaganesque".
  3. Interesting that he was retained by Marchibroda when the Browns became the Ravens. Ted is a direct link back to Marv. The guy was what - 25 years old at the time ?!?!? Sounds like an interesting prospect.
  4. I agree. Signing Sherman could be the best move. Now, let's move on to other matters.... Talking about another man's ass and using terms like "pear-shaped" makes me think that chick in the photo has a little bit too much influence. After football season... fine - go antique-ing, go to a fashion consultant to see if you're a spring, summer, winter, or fall, take her for a professional bra fitting, go see the play, "Menopause", hold her purse while she tries on a variety of outfits. Yeah the Bills' season is over, but my god man, it's still football season! BTW - ever notice there hasn't been an apple-shaped coach since Weeb Eubank? Here's a link to a thread I'm sure you'll be happy to jump in on: http://www.stadiumwall.com/index.php?showtopic=39211
  5. How about Bobby April?
  6. Isn't that pretty much the Tom Donahoe school of thought that brought us an average of 6 wins per season during his 5-year tenure as GM? You CAN'T have a succesful team without excellence in the trenches. There's NEVER been a championship team that had "just adequate" offensive and defensive lines. NEVER!!!! Peters exceeded expectations and MAY be a good one, but he's still learning the position and until he shows improvement and consistency, I wouldn't be ready to pencil him in as a pro-bowler. Preston, who everyone is so high on, may be alright, but it's still a huge unknown. Gandy blows - 'nuff said. An unknown job trainee second rounder and Bentley (have no idea who that is) round out the front 5? Doesn't sound like a formula for a team trying to get to the superbowl. Sounds more like a quickly assembled line for a team experiencing a bad cap year. I pray we don't wind up with an offensive line anything like what you're suggesting. It's exactly the kind of line we've had over the past 10 years. Better hope Bentley - whoever that is - is a superstar.
  7. Makes way too much sense for some of the nitwits around here... you know, the ones who, given the chance, would still take Young, Bush, or Leinhart. I agree and have always said that with a stout O-line, your skill positions will take care of themselves with not much more than average talent. If you're get lucky enough to get great talent with later round picks, all the better. Granted, it would be nice to have an Elway, Manning, or Kelly type of QB to be the field general. They're gonna get you those one or two close games or 4th quarter comebacks that could mean the difference between home field and a wild card berth. Top flight O-line = ball control, clock control, resting the defense, & scoring points. How many more games could the Bills have won if they'd been able to get TDs instead of settling for FGs? They'd have more TDs if they could run the ball inside the red zone. To do this, you need the beef up front since you can't spread the field.
  8. So much for my plans to re-write the lyrics for the pre-game national anthem.....I was gonna call it "The Star Bangled Boner". Still hard to sing, though.
  9. Tell him to quit his whining or you'll send him off to Father Baker's.
  10. Considering Levy's statements about building the team with individuals of fine chararacter, I'd say the chances of TO playing in Buffalo are about zero. For all his talent, his egocentric attitude is a big negative in a team setting. His antics and calls for attention to himself will always take away from the things the team is trying to accomplish. Hell no to T.O.
  11. Reminds me of the "The Jimmy" episode from Seinfeld. Jimmy: "Jimmy won't forget you Kramer...Jimmy holds grudges. Let Jimmy Go"....
  12. But he was picked by Detroit, one pick ahead of Buffalo. He wasn't available when the Bills picked Conlan.
  13. One of things that Marv stressed and will continue ot stress is for the Bills to be surrounded and populated by high-character individuals. Somehow, I don't see Haslett being a "Marv" type of guy. I always sensed that he's kind of a wise-ass and a loose cannon. During the whole steroid thing a while back, didn't he more or less point a finger at Kent Hull, who I believe would like a piece of Jim Haslett's ass. Kent Hull IS definitely a "Marv" type. Haslett...nahhhhh.
  14. Then you're right back to the Tom Donahoe philosophy of "linemen?.....we don' need no stinkin' linemen. We'll just grab whoever is around after the first round". Putting emphasis on skill positions and neglecting the trenches (with high level draft picks) is a monumental mistake in building a football team. Remember a guy named OJ? Not much more than an average RB in the years 1969-1971, before Lou Saban put a line in front of him. Donahoe's early picks were mostly QBs, WRs, RBs, & DBs, etc., leaving the later rounds for the likes of Mike Pucillo, Ben Sobieski, Marques Sullivan, et al etc The only impact player Donahoe ever procured for the O-line was been the injury prone Jonas Jennings, who thankfully left for free agency before he cost the Bills more cap space while he rehabbed. Once you have the foundation of a team built (LINEMEN!!!!), the skill positions will take care of themselves, often with lesser talent. Do you really think Denver is amazingly adept at finding running backs? Sure, they're talented, but it's their O line that is the catalyst. BTW - they've also helped the somewhat better than average QB, Plummer, look like a stud. What if Carolina had gone for the sexy picks instead of Peppers? A team with a multitude of weaknesses will continue on that path if they build their teams around receivers, QBs, and RBs. History proves it. I hope that Ngata, Williams, or Ferguson are in Buffalo blue next fall.
  15. There was a good article on the WGRZ web site. In it, writer Ed Kilgore says there's a fair amount of luck involved in the outcome personnel decisions and NFL events. The evidence is there to support it. Can't disagree. It doesn't even touch on the impact of unlucky occurances such as injuries. Something to think about for all you Chicken Little, sky-is-falling types who always call for the immediate firing of the head coach. There was also a good article a couple of days ago about how smart the Steelers were to retain Cowher and not have a knee-jerk reaction after a bad season or two. Look how Dungy was run out of Tampa after a little rough going. I think the Jets made a mistake by letting Edwards get away. I sometimes wonder if some firings are unavoidable because of PR/fan issues. I'm glad to see Mularkey keep his job. I don't think the Bills could progress next year by starting all over again. At least we'll have a better idea if Mularkey is the right man for the job. I have faith in Marv's decisions. http://www.wgrz.com/sports/sports_article.aspx?storyid=34320 Oh...BTW...anyone know who this article is referring when mentioning the top 1987 draft prospect who ended up in prison? Marv also mentioned him in his press conference and book, but not by name (of course). Curious.
  16. Moses couldn't win on the road.
  17. They would have, without a strong supporting cast. Tarkenton and Young weren't exactly huge threats during their stints with the Giants and Tampa, respectively. That was due, at least in part, by the fact that they didn't have the kind talent surrounding them they had in Minnesota and San Francisco.
  18. Donahoe just got the axe because he didn't have sense enough to build from the trenches outward. Name me ONE superbowl champion that had subpar offensive or defensive line. It all comes down to these simple question and answers: Q: Can a team succeed with an average QB behind an outstanding O-line? A: YES. Q: Can an outstanding QB succeed behind a below average line? A: No, not likely Look no further than our own HOF QB Jim Kelly to confirm this. In the few instances where Kent Hull was out, his game suffered tremendously. The 1996 season, when Jimbo played behind a crappy line (still wayyy better than the 2005 version), he was far from being the Jim Kelly of years prior. When the line is superior, you can manage the game with power running, sprinkled with occasional passes when the situation dictates. If you control the clock, your defense gets rested, making them more effective as well. With an O- line as porous and undisciplined as the Bills, even the best QB is going to have only sporadic successes behind center. The run game is undependable and the passing game is less than stellar with the defense in the backfield immediately after the snap of the ball. Last thing to consider....there has been an enormous amount of "can't miss" QBs who've been a total bust. The QB position, more than any other, depends greatly on bringing them along at the right pace and maintaining their fragile young psyches so they don't beome mental casualties. Brett Favre was expendable after being drafted by the Falcons. Not saying that Losman will be the next Brett Favre, but I'd sure like to see how well he progresses behind an actual NFL offensive line. And if Losman doesn't work out, just think how attractive it would be to a FA QB to come to a team with a line that will protect him.
  19. Rumor is that Marv beat him in a thumb wrestling match and the humiliated Krumrie resigned on the spot. I agree with the above poster who questioned the lovefest for the guy? Because he had "that intense look" - so what? Is he a glorified cheerleader? What the hell do any of us really know about his duties and how well he carried them out? Maybe he was such an egomaniac (his wrestling stunt indicates that this could be possible)that the troops were turned off by him and he wasn't able to get the most out of their talents. Maybe he was a crappy teacher of technique. Maybe he had adult ADD. Maybe he snored in the film room or stuck gum under the meeting table. Screw him. Let's give him an award for most improved "predominantly-white-guy-high-motor-D-line" in the NFL and send him on his way with a one way plane ticket and a bucket of wings.
  20. Maybe it's one of them painted on suits like sexy models wear in photo shoots - Ralph is completely butt nekid!!!!
  21. Didn't that Natalie Holloway chick dick jauron?
  22. Well frigging fantastic. That's some consolation for the crappy season, eh? The only thing better would be if Bennie Anderson had won the Lady Bing Trophy!
  23. Forget that the Bills have the # 8 pick and assume you could take any one player in the entire draft for your first round pick...who would it be? I'm not talking about trading a pick. I want to know who you'd take if you could have any draftee. I keep seeing a lot of posters getting geeked up about Bush, Leinhart, or Vince Young saying who great it would be if they could fall to the Bills. This amazes me. Aren't these kind of "sexy" picks exactly the reason the Bills are where they are today? Too many WRs, QBs, RBs, etc. wasted with the early picks. If it were my choice, I'd want the most dominant O-linemen who was the most intelligent, self-motivated, mature, and pro-ready of the bunch. If there were a D-linemen that was a gamebreaker, that would be tempting too. So you're on the clock with the first pick - who's your choice?
  24. Easy....Both have been head football coaches. What do I win!!!!?!!!!
