Favre family home destroyed in MS
SouthernMan replied to Sound_n_Fury's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
I saw the NFL Films presentation called "Before They Were Pros". There was a feature on Brett Favre, and apparently he farts an awful lot. NFL Films had footage during a Packer's game where he stuck his ass right in Don Beebe's face and deliberately let one rip, and then laughed about it. As everyone knows, Beebe is devout christian. Maybe destroying the Favre family home was god's method of payback for the facial flatulance. I'll bet Beebe prayed for it! -
Happy Birthday to one of our favorites

Not quite accurate. If you've ever seen photos of her before she started in pro show business, you'd see he has a completely different set of choppers. With her real teeth, she was downright homely. -
Well, CBS will not be showing opener in HD

Alpharetta, GA - Where to watch Bills
SouthernMan replied to Bob in Mich's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'm right by Windward Pkwy now. I live about 16 miles from here (close, by Atlanta standards). If you don't smell too bad and wash your hands after using the bathroom, you can come over to my place Saturday. Couple of other former Buffalonians probably stopping by. Send P-mail. If you reply to message soon, I can meet you somewhere if you like. Where on Windward are you? Which side of 400? -

Sadly, Hollywood has become more about pushing their left wing agenda than making entertaining movies. They have little regard or respect for middle America. -
Me too. My mother birthed me on this date as well.

Anyone worried about going to the game
SouthernMan replied to HtownBillsFan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Be very worried. They've been out to get the Bills and their fans since a high level Arab sheik put a couple of million on the Bills in superbowl XXV. It was rumored that Rob Johnson was an Al Quada plant. Well...he was some kind of plant anyway. It's well known that Doug Flutie is of Arabian decent. Coincidence? Doubt it? There's a huge concentration of A-rabs and other middle easterners in neighboring Lackawanna, where the Lackawanna Seven Al-Q cell was discovered. My sister has been doing some teaching over the summer there. I asked her, "why all the camel jockeys" in Lackawanna? She asked some of them (on my behalf) and the answer was, "no Jews in Lackawanna". Sis says, "what if I'm Jewish"? The student said, "I'd spit on you". He was serious. They absolutely hate Jews and we're naive if we think we can ever mend that fence or change that mindset. The spread of western culture seeping into theirs, combined with our support of Israel has made us targets for these Al-Mofos. They are brainwashed and pass the tradition onto their children. It's gonna be a long fight. The good news....they have no interest in football and if a middle easterner was spotted anywhere near the Ralph, they'd command a lot of attention and suspicious glances - especially when some shirtless drunk in the men's restroom goes to dry his hands, grabs the end of a nearby Arab's turban, and unravels the thing to where it becomes a piss mop. -
There is a way around that. There's a time limit, at which time neither party can any longer leave feedback. I don't remember exactly, but it's something like 60 days. If you time it right, you can leave the crappy feedback at the last minute for the bastard who screws you out of stuff and won't reply to emails, and they have no recourse or opportunity to leave you feedback. I have a friend who claims to have done this.

I believe the insurance company will only pay for the cost of replacement based on current depreciation. In other words, if it costs $10,000 to replace your roof with a new one, but your current one is only worth $6000, you end up having to come up with the $4000 when it comes time to replace the roof that's now covering some curled up witches feet.

I wouldn't go by this website schedule at all. According to it, the first showing of the Packers game is Monday, but I've got it set to record at (I think) 3am Sunday morning. If you have TiVo and Buffalo Bills are used as keyword (why wouldn't you?), it will show the game to be on channel 212 at 3am Sunday. If you watch on Monday, that's when you're probably getting all the cut-ins and crap. I didn't know what everyone was griping about with the Colts game. I recorded the first (unscheduled) showing on Monday. No interuptions, though there were a few edits to conserve time. The Wednesday showing must have been the one where they broke into Jags camp. SUNDAY, August 21, 3am - Channel 212. Be there!

What's always conveniently left out of these arguments (NFC superiority) is that starting in 1988, and not including the superbowls, the Bills absolutely DOMINATED the NFC for about 6 or 7 years. I mean Kelly, Thurman, and the gang whooped up on them and treated the NFC like they were the Bills B word. The Bills had a couple of losses in season-ending meaningless games (after clinching home field) against Lions and Redskins, when they rested the starters for the most part. Take away those losses and the Bills hardly lost to NFC teams in the regualr season. If 2004 is any indication, history may be repeating itself. 4-0 last year against the NFC. The saddest part about the Bills' superbowl history is that we all know that the 1990 Bills were a better team than the 1990 Giants. Hell, they beat them in their own stadium a few weeks prior to the superbowl. Maybe the worst thing that could have happend to the Bills was to kick the living crap out of the Raiders in the champeenship game. They got overconfident. We'll never know, but I still have to think that if the Bills played the Giants 5 times, the Bills would win at least 3 of those games - probably 4. SB XXV was their best chance. The next year, Washington was in a zone, hitting on all cylinders. And then came the Cowboys, who were just hitting their peak and reaping the rewards of the great drafts of 1989 and 1990. Side note - I know Parcell's is a good coach and all, but really, what has he accomplished since, without Belichek on his staff? I think Belichek's genius was the biggest reason the Giants won.

Priority mail is the biggest ripoff going. Several times I used the priority mail envelope and paid extra for the "faster" delivery. Not only was it never faster, it was consistently slower than if I'd just mailed it regular!!!! I think because it deviates from their standard flow of sorting and whatnot, it gets delayed. The only advantage is that it comes with a tracking number. This fact was later reinforced by one of those local TV news feature consumer reporters who actually did an experiment and confirmed what I had found. To answer the original question, I would not leave negative feedback. What if the tickets arrive today or tomorrow? What if the envelope has a Aug 13 postmark and it's taken the USPS this long to deliver it? Once negative feedback is left - you can't change it. Don't be hasty because you're getting itchy about the tickets. OK, so the guy charged $5 "shipping & handling". It's not unusual. Who says he has to charge exactly what postage is. He stated in the shipping details that it would be $5, right? You agreed. At the very least, wait until tomorrow before you even think about leaving feedback.

If you rarely ever watch TV, TiVo probably doesn't matter. If you don't mind zoning out to commercial ads, god bless you. Personally, it drives me nuts to sit through 7 minutes of this nonsense. It's not only the time waste, it's the moronic stupidity of most commercial content. Haven't you ever watched a show, commercial time came around, and after a while you found yourself asking, hasn't this been about 10 minutes since the show was on? That's beyond being patient to sit through that incredible waste of time. I think you're just stuck in a paradigm of acceptance for whatever programming is provided to you. How would you feel if your music CDs were interupted after every track for a commerciak break? Since you're not used to it, you'd probably not like it much. The problem is that the broadcasters have gotten greedy with ad revenue and have been adding a minute here, a minute there, until we're now at the point where almost a third of TV viewing is non-essential to the scheduled content. Not only that, we now have non-talents like Jennifer Anniston getting 1 million for a half hour show. They have to pay her some damn way. I have the same impatience for spam and pop-up crap on a computer. This is MY time for crissakes. I pay for my ISP and I'm the one who should decide what content I do and don't have to view. DVRs change the way you use your television. With this accessory, you are no longer subject to their programming schedules. YOU control your viewing just as you control your web browsing. How'd you like it if you turned on your compuer and were given a limited choice of web sites and viewing times for the stuff in your favorites folder? -
Statistically, rookie QBs don't measure up to their college hype. But stats can be deceiving. You have to look at the big picture. Typically, a rookie QB is a high draft choice who is playing because he's getting paid well and has to learn sometime. With a team that's got lots room for improvement, no time like the present to start the youngster. Now, you have to think, what teams are starting high round rookie QBs? Answer: teams that sucked the previous year and are in rebuilding mode. It only stands to reason that no matter who the QB is, the team probably isn't a superbowl or even a playoff contender. It's not unusual for the rookie QB to also have a new coaching staff that the rest of the team is getting acclimated to. The Bills have the players in place. It's not as if there are huge gaps throughout the squad. They had the #1 special teams and #2 defense last year. They had a running back that averaged over 100 yards for each start. They've got a superb fullback. They have experience, talent, and depth and wide receiver. They have an O-line with the benefit of one of the best tutors (McNally) at that position. A strong running game should take the heat off of JP as far as reading coverages. Besides - Losman is not a rookie. He's had a full year to get aquainted with the team and what it expects from him By all accounts, he's made the most of his opportunity and has been immersing himself in film and the playbook. I don't think Bledsoe's experience is a greater commodity than Losman's accuracy and abilty to get out of the pocket. What good did all of Bledsoe's experience do for him? It sure didn't help him find receivers or avoid the rush! He has no sense of oncoming defenders. Sure can't time a pass on a simple "out" pattern. Rarely ever hit a receiver in stride. More often than not the receiver had to pause and reach back for a pass. I have to laugh when I hear the Bills are weaker at the QB position because they'll miss Bledsoe's experience. Experience is only valuable if you learn from it and coreect weaknesses. Bledsoe's been doing the same lame crap for years. So much for experience. At the very least, Losman has potential. That's more than you could say for Bledsoe at this point in his career.

Anyone else try to tune in the game?
SouthernMan replied to Ghost of BiB's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
They obviously missed the whole point of my post. When you weigh out the worth of your time (which has become a precious commodity for most these days) against $5 per month, how can that be considered a luxury? An automobile was at one time considerd a luxury? Our culture and lifestyle, suburban living, etc., has made it a necessity. If you watch as little as 6 hours of TV a month (or a little more than 1½ hours per week) you can save AT LEAST 1 hour a month of your precious time by skipping commercials and other filler programming with a DVR. Is your time not worth more than $5 per hour?!?!? If $5/hour is beyond your means, you probably shouldn't have Directv or The NFL Ticket. Now those ARE luxury items for your basic minimum wage level American. -

WHY THE HELL DO SO MANY HAVE THIS IDEA THA TIVO IS A LUXURY?!? If somebody said they had a machine that could give you back several hours of yoru life each month and it would only cost $5 - wouldn't most people say "hell yeah"? It's the 21st centruy. $5 is chump change. We NEVER watch anything in real time. With all the commercials incorporated into today's broadcast programming, we can watch most 1 hour shows in about 45 minutes. Then there are those shows with maximum filler. For example, a 1 hour American Idol show can be watched in about 35-40 minutes or ½hour of Jeopardy takes about 10-12 minutes. (I don't care if you don't like those kind of shows - that's not the point I'm trying to make) If you wait until 2 o'clock to start watching a TiVoed Bills game, you can skip through all the boring timeouts and commercials and pretty much finish watching at 4 o'clock along with everyone else. For Bills games alone, you could easily save yourself about 4 hours a month during the fall. That's time you could be with your family, golfing, doing yardwork, making a Home Depot run, etc. $5 a month? Hell of a bargain I'd say. Many pay more than that just for additional phone features like call waiting. Given a choice between call waiting and TiVo, it's no contest. It's not like it's a $400 hardware investment. Directv pretty much gives the units away just so you'll commit to keeping their programming and subscribing to TiVo for $5 a month. I've yet to hear anyone who finally got a DVR say it was not worth it. Most say they had no idea how great it would be. If you ever get a pay-per-view movie, you no longer have search around for a blank video tape or worry about falling asleep and missing the movie you just paid for. You just say, "record and purchase". Done. Watch it at your leisure without the hassle and expense of video tapes. Somebody calls, or is some other interuption, no problem, hit pause or jsut rewind and come back to it when the interuption has passed. I found a new use the other day. I was trying to adjust the color on the Bills game, and every time I went to use the red helmets as a guage, the shot would switch to some graphic or a far away shot of something. I just paused the picture on a close-up of some Bills, then adjust the tint and color to suit me. Understand, we don't watch a lot of shows either. But with all the channels available, there's bound to be shows of interest that you could miss unless you made a weekly habit of reading through TV guide listings. If there's some special interest, actor, musician, or event, we can put it in TiVo as a keyword and it will automatically be recorded. I suspect anyone resisting TiVo are the same folks whose family's put off getting push button telephones. Put it this way...if you were offered $5 to sit and watch 1 hour of commercials every month, would you? If your answer is "yes" maybe TiVo isn't for you. That $5 must be worth more than your time. You're worth less than minimum wage!!! -
You could have mentioned that Mel Kiper, John Madden, Joe Theisman, and Dan Dierdorf were all in a fatal airplane crash together. Is there a national commentator or announcer that hasn't been insulted by our forum posters? Even Rich Eisen (on NFL Network) has been slammed. I think he does a terrific job, is a good interviewer, and has a smooth delivery. Mel Kiper is not very charismatic as a TV personality, but he's done his homework and though he doesn't have the resources or knowledge of GMs and top scouts, I'd bet he knows far more about NFL draft prospects than any of the amateurs posting here. Madden is knowledeable and charismatic and is occasionally informative. That said, he can get overly bombastic and easily sidetracked. I've heard him as a guest on radio interviews and I swear he's downright senile as he stutters through cliches and double talk. He's made an art of talking for long periods of time and saying absolutely nothing. Theisman is not the sharpest tool in the shed, but he's paid to be opinionated and give insight from a player perspective. He is what he is. I'll never forget watching a Bills' ESPN game when he uttered a classic malaprop saying, "he's got him in the short hairs" (rather than crosshairs). I've never understood what Dierdorf is so hated. I've listened to him, specifically to hear why he is so disliked, especially by Bills fans. Don't get it. Seems to be fair in his assessments and I'd say is a generally likeable guy who I wouldn't mind having as a neighbor to share a few frosties with. Are there any commentators that are universally liked? BTW - is it me or does Bob Costas come off like a real dick?

hadn't seen it posted so thought I'd send along the reminder....NFL Network will have a piece from Bills' training camp tonight on NFL All Access at 7pm. Don't have any idea if it's a quick 30 second bit or maybe a little more. If you don't have Directv, I guess it really doesn't matter for you folks.

It was a friggin' controlled scrimmage for chrisssakes. There wasn't even any scorekeeping. GET A GRIP!!!! The season will be starting soon. Anyway, I thoroughly enjoyed the NFL Network telecast of the scrimmage, have it TiVoed on every room in the house, and can watch it any time I damn well please. So there. na-na-na-na-na Suckers.
