  1. Why? The same dumbasses who think it's a Patriot jersey will then say something like, "oh, is that a bull on your shirt? What team is that? Chicago?"
  2. A professional is one who doesn't nitpick over semantics and definitions on a football team message board. C'mon, don't be a dick. You know full well what the term "professional" means in this context.
  3. I commend you for acting responsible and being as good a father as you could, considering the circumstances. I still have a problem with women getting pregnant and then getting public assistance as if it's their birth right. I think public assistance should be utilized by families where something catastophic created upheaval and financial stress, and should only be a temporary measure until they adapt and create a better situation. My gripe is mostly with single mothers, whose pregancy was often NOT an accident. It's all part of some convoluted strategy to give them security. They got problems at home and figure they can wrangle some unsuspecting guy into making them into a family, and if that doesn't pan out, the government provides a safety net of free housing and food. What a crock!!! From the sound of your first post, I had the impression you was just some tomcat getting chicks knocked up and then getting pissed at the governement for wanting you to be accountable. Sounds more like you had a case of getting involved with a couple of fertile Myrtles while your boys churned out some Mark Spitz level swimmers. What luck. Can't say it couldn't have happend to me. Good luck with your boys. All four of them.
  4. I guess I should throw out all those books I enjoy re-reading. 330128[/snapback] Not at all. If you like re-reading them, why would you do that? It's an individual choice. I was just saying that I don't get it. I don't re-read books either. There are too many that I haven't read yet that I'd rather read. For videophiles, I can see wanting to own DVDs, with all their extra features and so forth. I just don't have any desire to repeat things when there are others available that I haven't yet experienced. I will re-watch some recorded Bills' games. Some people could just as easily argue that that's also a waste of time (since I usually know the outcome). If there were new Bills games available which I hadn't seen, it might be a different matter. Anyway, I'm not saying someone shouldn't re-watch movies or re-read books. Just not my thing.
  5. Just curious....do you believe the taxpayers of Erie County should subsidize your irresponible actions and contribute even a penny towards your child? Sorry, but I get really pissed off when people go off to get laid, have a good time, and can't take care of things without the help of unknown citizens. Was the child planned? Ever consider adoption? Any plans to pay back the county and it's taxpayers? So now you've got, what, two kids out of wedlock? Do you live with either of them? If I sound judgemental, too bad. Have as many kids as you like, but I expect the parents to raise them without assistance from individuals who don't know them and had no part in the decision making.
  6. I've never quite undertstood th concept of buying movies. Once you've seen it, most of the allure is gone (since you now know how it all turns out). For me, music and concert videos are an exception. There are very few movies I'd watch multiple times. Hell, I rarely have time to see the new ones coming out, let alone watching old movies for a 2nd, 3rd, or 4th time. I think this is a generational phenomenon. Not having grown up with the convenience of home videos and VCRs, our generation wasn't in the habit of multiple viewings of the same movie. I think the 30 and under crowd, who were at most, 5 years old when the video explosion happened got used to watching the same Disney flick 20 times. Videos became that generations babysitters as the new supermoms were exhausted from 40+ hours in the workplace, and often being single parents. I know pre-school kids who know every line from some movies. To me, its seems like an incredible waste of time, but to each their own.
  7. That red helmet with the white standing bison was absolutely horrible. They simply removed the charging buffalo decal and replaced it with an all white version of the old 60's red standing buffalo. Did the Bills brass think they could pawn that off on us old timers and we'd get all wispy and nostalgic over that design monstrosity? Supposedly, it was done because they already had the red helmets and Marv didn't want the distraction of fitting the entire squad with new helmets, just for a single game. At any rate, the uniforms with the unfamiliar helmet didn't remind anyone of the 60's Bills. If they do a 60' throwback, I hope they do it all out with attention to detail. I want to see the same colors, stripes, numbers, helmet, and logo. Here's an idea that might get Buffalo in the pages of Sports Illustrated: The Bills should promote a home game as a 60's throwback game and in addition to having the players wear the original uniforms, ask the attending fans to do the same - women in June Cleaver attire, wool coats, vintage 60's horn-rimmed shades, and men wearing coats, ties, slacks, and donning fedora hats. Now, if we could just erect some support poles in the middle of section 313 to obstruct the view.....
  8. Damn. TOMMY. Another one I'd have to consider if I could only have one. For my money, that's the best drumming EVER on any album. Moon's playing had this incredible syncopation as he cascaded high toms through the low ones, somehow crashing cymbals in between and double footing the bass drums. Amazing. What's never discussed is his unique low tuning on the floor toms that made them sound like timpanis. It was unpredictable and fantastic. Tommy was well written and Townsend's guitar playing really blossomed on that record, but it never would have been the same without Moon's drums. Not necessary to start a Neil Peart thread here. I think Moon was the greatest. A complete nut job who's crazed drumming reflected his personality. Loved him.
  9. Hello Malcolm. Forgot about them for a second. IF... I had to choose 1 CD, it very well could be The Sex Pistols "The Great Rock & Roll Swindle" One of the best produced albums I've ever heard. Some really strange stuff on there, but also some kick ass straight forward rock. A few precious gems like EMI and Frigging in the Rigging. Love that album. It's got real attitude. I'll never get sick of it.
  10. Blues snob. You bastard. I have to agree with again.
  11. Agree 100%. Trick of the Tale may be the lone exception. The previous album was Lamb Lies Down on Broadway, and stylistically, they hadn't deviated much from the Gabriel version of the band with the Trick of the Tale LP. I've often thought it strange how similar Collins' singing voice sounds to Gabriels' on Trick of the Tale. It's like they were morphed for that one album. Don't remember what release was next, but I know Abacab and Then There Were Three was not too far down the line. Never bought anything by them or Collins following Trick of the Tale. All in all, I got bored fairly quickly with the overproduced "progressive" music of that era, including Yes, ELP, Kansas, Gentle Giant, etc. It was just o.k. at the time, some good musicianship, and was usually a good concert experience. Once the geeks with 15 years of piano lessons got into rock and roll, "progressive rock" was born. Thank goodness punk came along when it did to put the rock back in rock and roll. I'd just assume hear some raw blues and the gritty sound Stevie Ray exposing his soul through his Stratocaster and stack of Marshalls.
  12. That is a great album - the turning point for Genesis. I listened to it a few weeks ago while cruising. Saw Genesis in Feb. 1977 at the Aud, touring for that album. Fully bearded Collins in his first time out front. It was the first Genesis album following Peter Garbriel's departure. I don't think I'd want to be on a desert island with any single CD, unless is was to use the reflective mirror side to signal for help from a resuce plane.
  13. Oh...them. I thought you meant Heckel and Jeckyl....the talking magpies. I was really stoked for a second.
  14. Never said anything remotely close to that. The only point I made was that the government shouldn't automatically have the right to a family's earnings upon a members death. Makes you sound like one of them demented left wing nutcases who hear only what they want to hear.
  15. Haven't really followed the case too closely, but can I assume the Rigas' are now behind bars? It's just like these athletes making millions who end up getting in trouble for rape, drugs, theft, gambling, etc. Here's us working slobs going long hours, fighting traffic everyday for our relatively low wages. And these guys with all their women, wine, and fancy cars are sitting pretty, living high off the hog, not a worry in the world, and they find ways to blow it all. hard to figure. So are the Rigas' doing time? If so, how long? I can't imagine being old man Rigas, having a life of luxury for years, and then being a common prisoner in an institutionalized environment with all freedoms taken away.
  16. I like Travis Henry and have always respected his toughness and tenacity, especially after suffering a broken leg in 2003 and still having multiple 100 yard games. I give hime credit for correcting his fumbling problems. Unfortunately, the that's one reputation that's hard to shake, even if the problem is minimized. Henry has had some great games and let's not forget a few awesome stiff-arms. Henry IS a good back. The idea of giving him away for anything less than a 2nd round draft choice or other comparable NFL talent is unthinkable. BUT...Henry may have shot himself in the foot with all of his pouting and whining. If Henry had simply been a standup guy, kept a smile on his face, supported the team's decision to stick with McGahee, stated in the press that he would do whatever it took to help the Buffalo Bills, etc...he might have gotten the trade and interest he was hoping for. Now, along with his fumbling reputation, he'll have the reputation of malcontent as well. There may be some team out there who was willing to make a mutually acceptable trade with Donahoe, but if they couldn't guarantee a starting role, they would have only inherited the same situation of having an unhappy reserve pouting player infecting the sidelines. Henry should have just kept his mouth shut. I mean, what the hell is his big gripe anyway? He's not "playing" as much as he'd like. Gee....we should all have such worries. At some point a few years ago, he took someone else's job in order to become a starter. Now the shoe's on the other foot. Waaaaaaaaaahh!!!! Get over it. That's life in the NFL. Even if he never plays another down, he's already had more glory than any of us could ever dream of. Grow up Travis.
  17. Exactly. When concert tickets first started getting real high-priced, my initial reaction was to think they were being greedy, but after thinking about it, I realized they're only asking for the same $$$ the scalpers will get. When tickets were more affordable, the scalpers would buy up hundreds of thousands of seats and sell them at inflated prices. The management, promoters, and artists figured they would just cut the middle men and sell for directly to the fans, since they were often paying high prices anyway. The upside is that the fans can more easily buy tickets for premium shows through the box office, since they're not all horded by the scalpers. At least when you give this money to McCartney, The Stone, Eagles, etc...you know a lot of the money is used to produce a monstrous extravaganza of a show. I don't doubt that scalpers often funded their drug trade with this money. I haven't seen McCartney since the '92 shows, but I hear his last tour a couple of years ago was great. His band was much more lively and rockin' then his tour band during the '89-'92 shows. That band was technically competant, but they show have hid themselves in the studio. They acted like they bored with the whole thing. The keyboard player (Wix) is the only member to still be on board from the band 15 years ago. It's possible the old band was somewhat restricted by the limited talents of McCartney's late wife Linda, whom McCartney liked to have at his side in the band. Thinking about catching the show her in hot 'lanta. I hope he'll revive some numbers from the archives that he hasn't played in the past. His "magic piano" and Hey Jude schtick is getting old. ("ok...everybody on this side...na na na na-na-na-na") Alright Paul, we get it. Next.
  18. A good kicker will often mean the difference in 2 or 3 wins, which translates to being in the playoffs or not. Saying a second or third round crap shoot is a better pick than a likely special team all-star is just plain ignorant. The Patriots would probably have 1, maybe 2 less superbowl rings without Vinitieri. I would have liked to see the Bills get someoneof Nugent's caliber. Too bad.
  19. We'll call you. In the mean time, don't quit your day job. Shouldn't you be packing boxes or something?
  20. Ironically, Scott Norwood also makes his home in on a town called Centerville (Virginia).
  21. From Frank Zappa's "Studio Tan" LP, Side 2 Sung in a cheesey falsetto, sort of Frankie Valley kind of way "Let Me Take You To The Beach" Lemme take you to the beach, La La La La La La La La La La La La Lemme take you to the beach, La La La La La La La La La La La La You bring the weenies, I'll bring the soft drinks, and the cookies. Everybody's in love. Let me take you to a show, Wo, Wo, Wo, Wo, Wo, Wo, Wo, Wo, Let me take you to a show, Wo, Wo, Wo, Wo, Wo, Wo, Wo, Wo, Wo, Wo, Wo, Eat a candy, you are dandy, Can I kiss you, Maybe I'll just hold your hand-y. Lemme take you to the beach again, La La La La La La La La La La La La Lemme take you to the beach again, La La La La La La La La La La La La We'll have a freak out! Later we'll peak out You're on restriction, so you'll probably sneak out
  22. Well said. And anyway, "rich" is such a relative term. When I was a working class 20-something shmoe looking for work in Buffalo, I thought anyone who could actually not live paycheck to paycheck, put money in the bank, and have a retirement account must be "rich". I never dreamed of having excess cash, owning a home with 4 full baths, or even having a 1999 Honda with the front bumber falling off! (back then, 1999 was wayyyyy in the future, so the thought of a 1999 automobile with a built-in CD player seemed fantastic!!!!)
  23. First off, congratulations. Secondly...yes, this is the time to get butterflies, lose sleep, and get excited. You're about to put your personal stamp on sticks and bricks and make it your home. The sleeplessness should pass within a few days. Me and my wife were in excitement stage a few weeks ago after seeing the house we knew would be ours. Both our house and our future house are under contract with our names at the bottom. BTW - like my parents, your parents are also idiots. Things are much different than they were "back in the day". Back in their day, people weren't as transient. Someone moving from South Buffalo to Amherst was considered a mysterious figure from a far away land. With greater access via internet and more people competing to find the right house, it's a good idea to get the one that feels right, without too much hesitation. That's not to say that there won't be another perfect house a year from now, but why wait when interest rates are going to do nothing but go up. May as well get the home you're excited about, get a low interest rate, and get a year's worth of equity and interest deductions. The fact of the matter is that you can now get more house for the money than you'll be able to when interest rates go up. Imagine (for example) if you could only look in a price range about $25,000 less than what you think you can now afford. That's about where you'd be (more or less) if you wait another year. With interest rates as low as they are, renting is foolish for most people who intend to remain in the same area for more than a few months. Even parents of college students are discovering the benefits of ownership. Many students are now living in condos their folks have purchased near their campuses. Obviously I don't know your situation, but generally speaking, adjustable rate mortgages are not the smartest way to go right now. Sure, they'll be slightly smaller payments, but you'll more than pay the piper if you end up with a 8 or 9% rate in 5 or 7 years. Don't do it!!! I'd advise staying away from interest only loans for the same reason. If you can swing a 15 year loan, go for it. At the very least, think about making bi-weekly payments rather than monthly onws. It's like making 13 payments a year instead of 12. Also, if you get any bonuses or tax refunds, put it towards your principal. With the bi-weekly schedule, you can knock off about 7 years worth of payments and a ton of interest.
