Clarence Thomas IS conflicted
leh-nerd skin-erd replied to BillStime's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Joe Biden quite literally laid out how he and his supporters view people that don’t espouse to authorized and compliant thought in todays Democrat party: -
The plan is very similar to Russiagate. Repeat a narrative over and over until fatigue sets in and supporters tap out. When considering the breathless reporting that took place when Trump was in office, people leaving, staff being terminated virtually every thing in the world tied back to the presidency and how he might/might not act, one might now wonder why with the economy in shambles why the same reporters point to external factors beyond the control of the president. Trump is employing the same strategy with respect to the stolen election. Looking at the crowds that appear at his rallies, that message resonates with people. It should get very interesting as we get closer to midterms and 2024.

Richard Nixon was above the law. Hillary Clinton was above the law. Eliott Spitzer was above the law. Eric Schneiderman was above the law. Bill Clinton was above the law. By definition, every US President is above the law. Jussie Smollette was above the law before he wasn’t. Ted (and virtually every other) Kennedy was above the law. Kurt Zagon was Above The Law before Nico Toscani did him in. I’m just getting started, it’s widely known and understood that there are those that walk among us that are above the law. I find the committee spokesperson’s choice of words interesting. “Misconduct” is a bit of a weasel word when used by politically motivated individuals. At the same time, maybe Cippolone has provided the smoking gun that for unknown reasons, he hadn’t shared with law enforcement?

The impression I got from reading your initial post was that there was an epidemic of southern women banging boots on the downlow, outwardly espousing pro-life but secretly slipping into a non-descript building in NYC to have an abortion. That women from all walks of life and across the political spectrum seek abortions makes sense, I just wasn’t quite sure why you focused on “religious, conservative southern women” in particular. With due respect, you seemed to argue a different point in the post I replied to. In this post, you go to “near death”, in the first, you seemed to be suggesting broad latitude in the laws offered by Republican lawmakers to allow for abortions if they don’t want to lose this particular fight. I’m still confused by people who suggest that a woman’s right to choose has anything at all to do with her doctor, with the exception of a doctor advising a woman who wants to have a baby that her life/health is in peril in doing so.

I met David Paterson, then Lt Governor of NY, through a friend. I did some work for him, and in my travels, sat with him in his family room and talked for about an hour about our upbringing and political views. I shared that I skew conservative, which lead him to tell a story about his Dad and how he taught him to get along with people. Later, when he became Governor, I had to meet his wife, Michele for something and I dropped by the Governor mansion. She was kind enough to offer a tour, which I declined due to her busy schedule, but I did get to see the FDR swimming pool on the mansion grounds. To be honest, it was a little overwhelming and quite awesome to be treading on the tile floor in the room FDR used to go to for exercise. Very nice and decent people.

It was just the word on the street, Ferrigno. Don’t ignore the leg work. -

All right, you got two likes on the “Mrs. Robinson, y’all” post so there must be something to it. I haven’t seen any widespread reporting or study on married Southern women having secret back room abortions. People are people, of course, but is this a wide-ranging and far flung thing in the south? Is the number 50%, 60%, 90%? Second question. Why would you propose a woman need a doctor to intervene on her behalf of the ultimate goal is unrestricted access to an abortion? Why not just solve the problem if, as you suggest, R women are conflicted on the abortion issue? Btw, I think you’re a thoughtful poster, but lost in the 1950s with the “r women don’t understand pregnancy complications” angle.

The American Media Should Not Be Trusted

Excellent write up, except maybe for the part about NPR, I listen to various shows from time to time—rather, should say I listened—and there were times I wanted to throw myself out the car with the pompously pompous $&@& they were pitching. They were collectively the most depressing sad sacks of people I’ve listened to in my years of listening. To answer your question—yes, I think the hot button issues of our time are manipulated to keep us in conflict. That applies to both parties and pretty much every person who’s gone through Washington the past 100 years. Side bar—it’s one of the reasons people with conservatistic (I made that up) tendencies gravitated to Trump. I have no desire to argue whether that was good or bad, smart or silly, or anything else—but it’s important to remember that R Washington insiders were clearly and firmly against Trump until he won. The abortion issue couldn’t be fixed in the last decade? Of course it could have been. The illegal immigration crisis on both sides of the border couldn’t be addressed by either party over the past 50 or 60 years? Heck, I have to wait in line to be screened and to show my papers when I fly anywhere, and I’ve lived in the same house for nearly 35 years. To get an enhanced license, I have to show my papers, my passport, utility bills and a W2 and I’ve lived in NY for 60 straight years. Anyway, we agree here. Again, welcome to the team. New guy buys the first round. -
Funny, That There's Zero Pushback
leh-nerd skin-erd replied to Kemp's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
You're advocating for a system that doesn't exist in the country regardless as to whether or not you're a D, an R, or an I. If he's innocent, he has nothing to explain. Zero. Zed. Nada. Nothing. Meanwhile, he has shared his thoughts on what the lady said, and there have been a number of credible responses that suggest she's mistaken, wrong, lying, vindictive, or mentally unstable. In the meantime, as you surely know, no sensible representative would recommend going before a hostile tribunal of political adversaries with a stated goal to destroy you personally, financially and politically and allow them to dictate terms of the inquisition, especially in light of the problems with the testimony of their key witness. So, he simply responds...Nah, not interested. -
Oh no, sir, I’m not talking about something controversial. I think we would all agree that energy policy, for example, can be controversial depending on who is offering the analysis. I’m talking specifically about a politician you mentioned by name, and your inability to recall allegations of “conspiring with a small group of aides”, in this case with respect to creating a false narrative of WMDs that lead to a war and the deaths of thousands of Americans and between 150,000-1,000,000 + Iraqis and others. Though, in fairness, the allegations related to “war for oil” had nothing to do with contesting an election. For that type of allegation, you have to go back to Gore contesting his election loss in 2000 and allegations of disenfranchised voters and serious irregularities in the process. I’m surprised you’d take issue with this sort of thing, but maybe you’re a Bush man.
-
You must have a short memory. Wasn’t W Bush the President accused of manufacturing evidence of WMDS to propel the country into a needless war, where young men and women died needlessly in pursuit of profit from oil? It’s hard to remember because not long after the D leadership accused him and a small group of aides of doing just that, and the election decided, we got these images of him not being investigated by a bi-partisan committee looking to flush out the facts. It’s weird how all this works.

Based on his ability to close, relative to mine back in the day, I so could have been a Playboy! 🤣

Boris Johnson's Scandals
leh-nerd skin-erd replied to Trump_is_Mentally_fit's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
It’s interesting that one of the main issues mentioned was lack of leadership during the pandemic, especially as it related to partying during COVID while the rest of his country ate gruel and huddled in darkness. In the US, we had all sort of politicians sending that very same message, and an entire party specifically devoted to encouraging citizens by the tens of thousands to take to the streets, huddle together in a most COVID-spready-fashion and not a word during a pandemic that killed millions. -
I remember when Trump was going to jail, too. That was back when the Dems claimed he was part of an elite KGB incursion team, born in Leningrad, whelped at the feet of Leonid Ilyich Brehznev, and secreted into this country as part of a collection of priceless Matryoshka dolls shipped to the home of Frederick Koch, bought and paid for by the greedy Big Oil barons of days past.

I actually agree with ChiG on the fact that a prosecutor would likely move slowly and cautiously on an issue like this, but note the continued hedging of bets on criminal charges being filed as well. It would not surprise me in the least to see a prosecutor attempt to score political points and take on DJT even in a losing game. Still, look at BillSy’s entry above. This time, they claim to be getting DJT and the pelt of Lindsey Graham to boot. 🤡

I have to acknowledge your grace and class in this scenario, Mup. That said, have you ever reimagined your life had you decided to have a tasteful evening of flirtation, fun, and boundaries at the Batavia Holiday Inn way back when? Who knows, you could have been Mrs. Muppy Lewis-Playboy had you played your cards right! Based on his Wiki page, you and Mr. Playboy would currently make your home in Rush, NY. (Disclaimer: I briefly flirted with the idea of editing his Wiki page to include a spousal entry as noted above. However, as you know, I’m technologically ambivalent and haven’t yet added an avatar in spite of your kind offer to assist. It all looked very complicated.)

Giambra quits GOP, ends senate campaign
leh-nerd skin-erd replied to Nineforty's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
I had to refresh my memory, but his story is apparently as follows: Started as a D, switched to an R; As Comptroller, he ratf*cked Erie county with his budget antics in the early 2000s, and quit in anticipation of losing a reelection bid; He ran for governor in 2018 and tapped out early, before he was shown the curb; He attempted to start his own political party, the Fusion GPS party, but had to quit that deal when he fell about 1,000 signatures short on a 3,000 signature requirement; Decided to run for State Senate, then decided he wasn't going to be marketable and tapped out as well; I don't see any word of any criminal charges being filed, but other than that his resume suggests he would be awesome as a pivotal player in NYS politics. Oh, and btw, he referred to his bid as a 'kamikaze mission', which in context, is a pretty dumb ---perhaps indicative of why he failed to garner support he needed to be successful. -
