I don’t see how this is even remotely controversial. Govt chose winners and losers, and often behaved as if there wasn’t a pandemic at all. This is why it’s smart and good to question both the science and medical professional dispensing it. Harris and Biden’s comments most definitely added to the confusion and disinformation centered around the vaccine and its development. The implication is that somehow, in spite of government oversight and bringing the public /private sector together in unprecedented fashion, that Trump was mixing vaccine cocktails in the basement of the WH. Meanwhile, of course, Andrew Cuomo was celebrity politician du jour in spite of a complete lack of readiness by NYS govt, and as we now know, cooking the books and exposing our most vulnerable citizens directly to the virus. Simply put, common sense suggests that you’re too emotionally drawn into the discussion to be reliable. What Harris and Biden said almost certainly caused already vaccine hesitant people to view the experimental vax with cynicism and distrust, and people likely died as a result.

I have talked with so many people about this scenario and still find it fascinating when they attempt to sell a version of the history that never existed. I had no issues with vaxxing, beyond the fact that it was a very difficult time and I was a bit nervous about the jab. People are different. Some are selfish, sone selfless. In the end, it’s usually about people acting on behalf of themselves and their families. I’m vaxxed and boosted, but don’t think the guy who chose a different path is any more/less noble than I. To be honest, I think some of the screaming pro-vaxx people were often the less noble.

I think the scientific community as a whole, badly failed the population. With Faucci as the chief science guy, I would think a major press conference appealing to protestors that their decisions to gather and huddle together during a pandemic likely costs tens/hundreds of thousands of lives if not more. I believe he should have been shouting from the tree tops that the actions being taken were killings people in massive numbers. I feel like there is more passion here on this dopey message board than I ever saw out of him, or most dem leaders locking $&@$ down. That said, the biggest issue was the cohesive strategy and messaging from Dems while the pharmaceutical industry and Trump admin was developing a vaccine. Where unity would have helped, they chose to spread disinformation. People can see the disconnect between what they are being told to do and what those with the most up-to-date data are doing.

Me too, Chi, I’m here just discussing basic human nature. It’s easier to pretend none of the rest of what went on in the world matters, but history tells us that pushing back against the “it’s for your own good, trust us and ignore that other stuff above your pay grade” is actually a good thing. It’s not perfect, and there can be pain associated with considering the harsh realities of life, but it matters. I also don’t think everyone should get the COVID vaxx/booster, I think people should consult with their medical provider and consider risk/reward scenarios. Finally, I think it’s obvious that one should not blindly trust in their general practitioner. I think dialogue is important, and we need only look at the opioid crisis to understand that even well-intentioned medical professionals can change the trajectory of your life in a hurry.

There is science, and the hypocritical hammer blow from the government’s interpretation of it that often color the story. The fault for hesitancy had rejection of the narrative can be laid squarely at the feet of leadership. The reality is “they” were correct—it was impossible to go more than a couple days during the lockdown days without seeing evidence that those most uniquely positioned to have access to ALL the data were guilty of completely disregarding the rules set in stone for the rest of us. The most telling of all was the silence on mass protests. We were supposed to look the other way while virtually every rule established was completely and unquestionably disregarded and nary a peep from those leading the lockdown charge. Here we are a couple years later, you knowing the details—that those mass protests lead directly to perpetuation of the virus and death and heartache on a massive scale, especially in historically disenfranchised communities. While often noble in cause, much of the blame for COVID spread rests here. Incorrect.

This is an oversimplification of an extraordinarily complex situation. One look at the behavior many insiders followed while preaching the “hunker down and stfu” mentality for everyone else rightly gives reason to pause and consider the righteousness of the order. Watching tens of thousands of individuals gather from across the country at the height of the pandemic, with precious little pushback from people like Faucci and leaders in govt was extremely problematic. The simple reality is one can consider their own well-being, that of those around them and their fellow man, and choose not to vax/boost. It took only a change in administrations and a few short months before the narrative changed, and many of the heroic souls who gutted it out and got vaxxed for the greater good suddenly weren’t so interested in vaxxing up for the 2nd time, or getting boosted.

It was always my view that political leaders keep these documents for any number of reasons. It was your view that this was singularly a Trump issue. Though I was proven stunningly prescient, and you once again revealed to be an easily manipulated dullard, even I would not have predicted Biden’s level of recklessness and prolonged pattern of abuse.
