  1. All are excellent. Thanks. Thought the astronomy could be awesome and depressing.
  2. I didn't understand a word.
  3. It's easy to be a contrarian with zero accountability. (See: fan message boards)
  4. IMO, historical year over stats that are meaningless.
  5. No one goes to that restaurant anymore, it's too crowded. - Yogi Berra
  6. Uh, read the article. The Ravens have nothing to do with that.
  7. It all changed when my sister-in-law got married to a tool bag (and I started to make money). Now I'm a Prince. Not sure there's a lesson there.
  8. ^this I love a good take down, but this article ain't it.
  9. I am an American aquarium drinker.
  10. That blows. Hate to see anyone injured (even Brady).
  11. Like 17K+ comments on a message board?
  12. Agreed. No run game, except when called back for a penalty. EJ clearly scrambling or under pressure on most plays, hardly had time to survey the field, etc. I'm not an EJ apologist but we can't make a clear evaluation of a QB when he's rarely given a good chance to make plays. Against inferior competition and more important, not running for his life, he actually looked like a decent QB. I also think the play action helped in the 2nd half drives. Our primary problem is fixing the O-Line and reliable run game so the defense isn't teeing-off on our QBs. Then we can evaluate if EJ can make it in the league.
  13. -- Said by every generation ever.
  14. I once read that most fans predict their team will go 10-6 or 11-5. Anyway, I'd be happy with 8-8, but I think 7-9 is more likely.
  15. My personal news guidelines - MSNBC - Never watch after 10AM EST (Morning Joe and Chuck Todd - IMO, Todd is the best on TV) CNN - Only Jake Tapper (and sometimes, not even him). Never watch after they start repeating stories (plane crash, etc) in the same hour. CNN Headline News - Never after Robin Meade (and not after they start repeating stories - which takes about 30-60 minutes) FoxNews - Only Shephard Smith. The only one who even tries not to sound like GOP talking points. All the rest is trash (see MSNBC after 10AM) CNBC - Top of the hour news is pretty good. Can't stand most of the economists/pundits who contradict themselves from segment to segment. Zero accountability. Networks - Only watch Brian Williams, if at all. I find him amusing.
  16. Awesome. There is a 60 year difference between her husband and boyfriend.
  17. A little harmless fun. What could go wrong?
  18. I imagine Cruise could have pulled it off. He is a pretty decent actor (Born on 4th of July, A Few Good Men, Jerry Maguire, Minority Report, Tropic Thunder, Oblivion, etc). A lot of bad ones, too, but few blockbuster stars can avoid the bad roles. He's a nut but . . . I highly recommend Edge of Tomorrow. Go see it.
  19. I second "World War Z" - great book, awful movie. Would have been a much better HBO 10-part miniseries.
  20. Horns & Heart Shaped Box by Joe Hill (Stephen King's son) - Horns is a great fantasy/allegory/horror, HSB is mostly horror/action. Both excellent. His last novel is N024RTU - to me it was OK, while other love it. Always interesting. The Martian - Andy Weir (techno "thriller", well written, good humor). Ridley Scott may direct Matt Damon (not sure if that's a positive or negative for you) The "Wool" or "Silo" series by Hugh Howey - Excellent sci-fi trilogy. Outstanding writing and imaginative. Series launched many other stories. I will read his book "Sand" next. "Wayward" "Pines" series by Blake Crouch - Mystery/Sci-Fi. A Treasury agent winds up in a remote town to locate a fellow agent. Town is very mysterious and odd things happen. The third in a trilogy out this month. Easy to read but full of layers upon layers. Dune - of course. Altered Carbon - Sci-fi, detective story. Well done, good writing. Finch by Jeff VanderMeer - Sci-fi, detective story that is too hard to explain. If you want something different, with a good mystery, this underrated book could keep you reading for hours.
  21. Alternatives: - "One more than the 11th Man" - "One less than the 13th Man" - "The 12th Non-Gender Specific Person" - "The 12th Player, Not Actually on the Field, which would be a Penalty"
  22. Inspired by Game of Thrones -- Trial By Combat. It's settled, he's guilty.
  23. Yellow. Love science.
  24. Good topic. Until recently, I never occurred to me that I was a huge "sci-fi" fan but it would take time to list all the sci-fi movies, books and TV shows that are favorites. Perhaps the "sci-fi" stigma? Anyway, in addition to Primer and Moon (both outstanding), I'd add Source Code and Time Crimes. I'd welcome any recommendations based on these movies. BTW, I couldn't stand Starship Troopers (the movie) and the Forever War (book). I'm now wary of military sci-fi as fantasy stuff for the Cheeto-eaters who live in their parents' basement. A few of my book recommendations: The Wool series Dune (will try the others) Altered Carbon The Martian Wayward Pines series Hyperion (will try the others)
