  1. I agree with all of this. To my eyes, Groot has a little Mario Williams in him. A big, long dude who plays LDE and who can get some sacks simply by virtue of his reach. Basham doesn’t have the body type to bend—at least not that I’ve seen. I’m a little more optimistic on Epenesa. But, at least to my eyes, it looks like they had him overdo the weight loss last year and he was a little too light.
  2. The cowboys have recently played a road game the Thursday after thanksgiving. It was a way of getting them on Thursday night football. Assuming every playoff team will appear on prime this year, it seems like Bills-Packers is a natural for the window if Bills play on thanksgiving. It probably also means that Green Bay will play Detroit on Thanksgiving. And, to take it a step further, it allows the NFL to keep the Cowboys off of Prime, which is probably preferable for the league this year. (Biggest draw stays on network TV.) I vaguely recall Dallas-Minnesota the Thursday after thanksgiving one year as well. Could be wrong there. But you’re right about the other precedent.
  3. If this is true, then I wouldn’t be surprised to see Bills-Packers or Bills-Bears the Thursday after Thanksgiving. Assuming Bills play on Thanksgiving and on Prime, it likely means back to back Thursday games, the “other” of which would be against a team that also plays on Thanksgiving.
  4. The guess here is that they were beaten to the punch on Stout. I can’t recall a year in which three punters were drafted. Not saying it didn’t happen; I just don’t remember. Joe B has a nice write up today on the value of the holder, which Stout is and which Araiza is not. Anyhow, I think the thesis on Haack remains the same. He’s a hang time/positional guy who, when our offense puts together a few first downs, can effectively trap the opponent deep in its territory if we’re forced to punt. I appreciate that he sucked last year, but I’m not sold on the idea that he’s a goner. I agree with you that we’ll see what happens in camp and go from there.
  5. Matt Araiza. Points matter more than punts. The inexperience as a holder is an underrated concern.
  6. Me too. But now considered inefficient use of practice time.
  7. This is my concern. This is a huge issue. He doesn’t have to hold. But someone else has to. And it’s unusual not to have the punter do it.
  8. Hard and right can be two different things. The s/c staff here is top notch. They'll have him eating right all the time (no dorm food, ever) and get him on the right program to grow him into the player that they want him to be. I didn't like this too much last night but, having thought it through, it tells me how much they like and value Milano because this guy can be the next Milano.
  9. I looked at the pic in the news this morning and thought that we might change our minds about this after he spends a year in an NFL strength/nutrition program. There’s room to grow for him.
  10. I don’t care about BMI. That metric is skewed against overly muscular humans. Body fat percentage is the issue.
  11. Big nickel? I don’t get this one. Maybe a Milano replacement … in three years?
  12. We will watch that clip for years. The tshirt was great, too.
  13. Yes. Guard and safety are the two easiest positions to play.
  14. This probably means that one of Hyde/Poyer and one of Edmunds/Milano are gone after this year. Knox can have part of Edmunds’s money (I think he’s the one to leave), and Davis (who is getting a big contract) can have the rest of the savings. (Oliver need to get paid, too, but I think offense gets the money for now.) I wouldn’t be surprised to see Edmunds moved at the draft.
  15. If Cody Ford is still here this afternoon (not a given), then he is going to have a hard time making this team. Which is a shame. But the Bates match and the Boettger signing might be it for him.
  16. Sounds like a Bobby Johnson issue. 17 has been our best short yardage back and that has to change.
  17. I totally agree with this. But doesn’t this analysis ignore appreciation? COC is not a good measuring stick for an NFL franchise value. But mix the float in the value of the franchise in and all of a sudden it’s not so bad.
  18. Overheard it on the PC feed as well. The band looks to be getting back together.
  19. His agent has a lot of explaining to do.
  20. Looks like he’s not “elite.”
  21. I completely agree. The McKissic money alone isn’t too far from that figure. And, there’s still the Beasley cash.
  22. That’s one of the reasons why Andre Holmes was released mid season a few years ago.
  23. I’m generally with you. I don’t believe in wasting opportunity (eg cancelling a pick for, say, Stephon Gilmore by signing a bunch of JAGs). But the DT signings are not that. I’d much rather load up now for a super bowl run than worry about having an extra Marquez Stevenson or Tommy Doyle a year from now.
  24. I really hope that the 2022 PR is not on the roster.
