  1. The Jets get a 7th if he plays, but also have to give the Raiders a 7th if he doesn't. LOL.
  2. 4.51 versus 4.54. Not a heck of a lot of difference in speed.
  3. No. If we had cut him pre June 1, the hit would have been $2m to this year's cap. Cutting him now would be $2m in dead cap to next year. It's not saved. Read the damned contract! 2-year contract with $4m bonus. Bonus prorated over 2 years.
  4. Nice comparison of the two players. My single biggest concern regarding Roquan Smith is that he's undersized. I'm not talking about him from the perspective of weight. Both him and Edmunds came in at 236 pounds. I'm talking about it from the perspective of his height. Smith is 6-1. There's not a lot of weight to be put on his frame without sacrificing speed. His bulk doesn't have much more upside and he's done growing. Pass coverage against TE's is a huge concern for me. Edmunds is 6-5 and almost identical in terms of his speed. Bigger frame and bigger upside with the height to cover the big TE's in todays game.
  5. In the last 20 years, 94% of QBs drafted in the top ten started in their first year. That stat alone should tell ANYONE with rudimentary football knowledge that it's not an open competition. The Pick-erman apologists somehow want to believe that it's an open competition. It simply is not. There have been 33 QB's drafted in the top ten in the last 20 years. They were all starters within a year and there were no "open competitions" to speak of. IMO, the Bills knew in the offseason that Taylor wasn't their guy. They stood clear of the race for the big 3 free agents because they intended to draft for the future. They picked up McCarron, because they knew that Peterman was also not "the guy", and did so on the cheap. It's pretty easy to see the reality (as you have) when someone isn't wearing their homer glasses.
  6. Your drunk with man-love for Peterman. You could say you're in love with Petermans peter man. Peterman's experience is GARBAGE. Hot piles of garbage. 6 picks in 52 pass attempts is terrible and doesn't constitute anything meaningful. At least McCarron looked like an NFL quarterback. Cutting McCarron would result in $2m ADDITIONAL cap hit, not savings. Cutting Peterman would save $400K.
  7. So McCarron is 4X as qualified to start as Peterman. Got it. It won't be long until Peterman is with the practice squad.
  8. I can't fathom how anyone would be shocked by this. Unless he completely flops or one of the other guys shines like a diamond, he's the QB of the future. Kind of a snoozer from a news perspective.
  9. He took 52 passes in NFL games and got picked 6 times. He didn't PLAY a full NFL season. By that measure, AJ McCarron has been in the league 4 years, so that would constitute 4 years experience to Peterman's 1. It's dumb logic like this that really doesn't pass any reasonable litmus test. All three QB's have looked fine in OTA's, which basically means nothing. Your continuous reach for the trash is hilarious.
  10. A lot of them were considered raw, but that doesn't make them a "project". Peterman is a project. Jeff Tuel was a project. Even EJ Manuel was a project IMO. There is no team in the NFL that trades up to #7 for a project. Peterman's leash at this point will be short compared even to McCarron. If all players come out of the preseason relatively equal, Allen will start. You can keep dodging reality and coming up with excuses, but it really won't matter all that much. It's apples to puppies. LOL.
  11. Very ill-conceived. Late draft picks don't get the same amount of rope that early draft picks do, especially quarterbacks.
  12. Based on what? For the QB's drafted in the top ten in the last 20 years, 94% of them started in their first season with many starting day 1. Teams drafting that high and investing in that position are not having an "open competition". To boot, they traded up to get him. He clearly already "wow'd" them. If you start talking about what teams "typically do with rookie QB's", then you have to consider rookie QB's drafted EARLY. Based on facts (not your simple conjecture), the odds favor Allen starting this season at some point.
  13. Wrong. If the Bills let Shaq Lawson go now, they would accelerate additional dead cap by another $3.2 million (counting $6.0 million instead of $2.8 million). There's now reason to let a high draft pick go at this point that actually showed potential in games last season. On the flip side, Peterman is basically playing on a league minimum contract for $600K and the team saves $400K by letting him go. Apples and oranges in terms of relevance.
  14. In the last 3 seasons, we've seen a 10-6 Jets team; a 10-6 Dolphins team; and a 9-7 Bills team finish second in the AFC East. The Dolphins not drafting QB was as perplexing as picking up Brock Osweiler and Frank Gore. With Suh, Timmons, and Pouncey gone, they look to be in full rebuild mode. The Jets are just as interesting as the Bills in terms of player turnover and their QB situation. I honestly believe that whichever teams DST plays best is the team that finishes 2nd in the AFC East.
  15. He will be a star, because that's his name. None the less, he's not going to go out there and give us eye popping statistics. There's no statistic for occupying space. There's no statistic for taking on two offensive linemen so that an edge rusher or linebacker can make a play. There's one DT in the top-90 in the NFL in tackles. There's only one in the top-30 in sacks. That's not why the Bills paid him. Anyone that doesn't understand that is just missing reality. If they have improved the run defense with this signing, they've done a lot more for this Bills defense than most people will realize.
  16. Don't know the answer, but they have said he'll be recovered before Spring is over. Summer starts June 21st, so I'm not sure what the concern would be.
  17. Not worried one bit. Tyrod could only muster 96 YPG to his collective receivers last year. By comparison, OBJ averages over 94 YPG receiving. Ridiculous. I place most of the blame on the worst YPG for collective receivers on Tyrod Taylor and his unwillingness to take shots down field. Now, getting to the players the Bills have and why I am not concerned: Kelvin Benjamin - McDermott says he's 100% and looks good in camp. He's a big young guy and was a 1,000 yard receiver with 9 TD's one year with Carolina. Zay Jones - He played hurt last year and just had surgery. Should be back before the Summer. Big young guy with huge college stats. Andre Holmes - Before Oakland acquired Crabtree (making Holmes disposable) he was a 700 yard receiver with a real QB throwing the ball. Upside is there. Jeremy Kerley - Decent production as a slot guy. Never really slayed it, but he's not lame either. You don't stay in the NFL for 7 years by being trash. Non-rookies Rod Streater, Brandon Reilly, Malachi Dupre, Quay Bray - Obviously here mostly for special teams, and just depth. Rookies Ray-Ray McCloud, Austin Proehl, Robert Foster, Cam Phillips - Of this group, Proehl's pedigree is what I'm most optimistic about. Doing the math here, that's 13 guys. Adding up the better stat years from the guys that look to be the starters, the productivity is there if our QB's are willing to throw the ball. When you talk about even a middle of the road passing game, there's no reason why the bills couldn't take that 96 YPG for receivers and turn it into 150 YPG. That wouldn't even account for productivity that they will get out of Clay, O'Leary, and McCoy and the other non-WR receivers, which should be another 100+ yards. it's on our quarterbacks. That's it in a nutshell.
  18. I take him for what he is, and that's a good possession receiver. Looking at statistics like TD's/Reception, Yards/Game, Yards/Reception; he's got good numbers. He isn't even in the discussion though when you start talking about guys like Antonio Brown, OBJ, Julio Jones, Mike Evans, or even A.J. Green. When I think of guys that are "move the sticks" or "catch that TD pass" type of players, he's not up there on the list. As far as him saying he's the best, I roll my eyes at that type of comment. We as fans want our players to be confident. When they are, then we criticize them for it. What should he say? "Hey, I'm top ten, but definitely not better than X, Y, Z". That would be a dumb statement to have to come back to around contract renewal time.
  19. I would have to backtrack to see if I can find the source. I read as much as I can, when I can during the off season. I don't know about Allen and signing versus participation. With the whole rookie salary scale thing, I wouldn't think it would matter a whole lot.
  20. Nope. Can't be compelled to play for any reason. Players are at will employees, just like I am in my job. They don't have to play on any religious "day", but that could and certainly would affect their ability to be employed by an NFL team.
  21. I'm most excited to the games I'm actually going to. Those would be, in order: @Chicago (preseason) @Minnesota @Green Bay @Indianapolis Jacksonville
  22. I don't think it's all that strange. They wanted a guy that could start for a year or two and went after Foles first. Not a superstar, but better than Tyrod as a fallback position. It makes sense to me.
