All speculation still. Nothing concrete / verifiable.

Redskins pick at 13 now serious trade up opportunity?
Luxy312 replied to Big Blitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'm pretty sure that if I'm him AND told I was going to be starting the season at his salary that I would hold out. I actually expect that conversation well before we get anywhere close to September. -

Don't forget Nick Foles. He's not going back to being a backup. -
Have you ever been less excited for a SB?

My breaking point has not been the Patriots. It's been terrible and inconsistent officiating. Maybe it isn't factual, but it certainly does seem like Tom Lady and the chicks out East get all the calls when it really matters. I also can't stand the incessant whining. I am sick of watching the cry Brady's smug face after every single play where the officials didn't make a call in his favor. Definitely skipping it. -
Hate to say it...Tyrod will be back

He has to take a pay cut or he's simply let go. There's no way the Bills pay the man $16m next year for effectively just being a game manager. -
I don't disagree with all of that and the NFL is clearly not transparent in this regard. Cousins has already said that he's testing free agency and doesn't plan to sign anything. So IMO, the Alex Smith signing suggests what you're talking about. At the end of the day, the Redskins could get as much as a 3rd round pick by letting Cousins talk to other teams, by means of a compensatory pick. Washington gains nothing by just making him wait, other than pissing him off.

I thought it was SaviorPeterman and the mysterious "reliable sources".

He's not under contract with Washington. He's an unrestricted free agent. Washington hasn't tagged him either, so they have no rights.

What did you learn from the Smith Trade?

I don't disagree at all. Andy goes WAY too conservative in playoff games. -

There is no way I would pony up that type of money, unless the annual amount remained around $25m per year or so. -

Of course, but the only circumstance where that seems applicable to me is if they're taking yet another developmental guy either later in the first round or even after. If they trade up, like some are suggesting, to "get their guy", he plays right away. Otherwise, trading up isn't smart. -

1 - $60+ million is the new "guaranteed" for QB's that are perceived as being good enough to start. 2 - The Redskins were either not convinced that Cousins is the guy, or convinced that he would have costed them a lot more than Alex Smith did. 3 - The Chiefs were convinced that Alex Smith was not the guy and that it was more important to get a talented young cornerback. 4 - The Chiefs were convinced that Mahomes is the guy going forward. 5 - With other free agents that will be out there like Cousins and two of the three of Keenum/Bridgewater/Bradford, there is no trade market for Taylor based on his contract this year. I seriously doubt that anyone either pays his $16 guaranteed or renegotiates, presumably at an even higher guaranteed amount if they renegotiate an extension. 6 - There's nobody that I want as a "bridge" quarterback. This team has had bridge quarterbacks for almost two decades. If there is someone that's head and shoulders better than everyone else for Buffalo, you do what's needed to trade up to get him. If not, you stay put. -
I cannot imagine a situation where there would be a decent trade market for Taylor. For the entirety of his 40+ games started, he's had the same problems from the beginning until the end. He doesn't throw receivers open. He rarely sees the middle of the field. He's basically a backup. Who's going to want to either eat $16m of cap space for him in 2018 or negotiate a new deal that would presumably involve more guaranteed money than that? I personally think that the most likely scenario is that the Bills have to release him before he's due a roster bonus. I actually wonder at this point if anyone would pick him up with the intent of making him the starter.

I doubt they have three QB's ranked identical, but it would be typical Cleveland dumbassery to pass on a guy that becomes a franchise QB in order to draft the third best QB that turns out to be the next big flop.
-
There's nothing in that article that says anything about NOT taking quarterback. Hiring an OC, ST, and RB coach doesn't mean a thing in the context of the draft.
-
If Cleveland believes any of the QB's are head and shoulders above the others, they MUST take them with the #1 pick. Kizer was a dumpster fire and the possibility of 2 QB's coming off the board between 1 and 4 is just too much.
