Can EJ be the starting QB for the Bills
1billsfan replied to BillsFan-4-Ever's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
More than anything, Manuel needs to project confidence in himself. Every recent interview I see of Bills players they talk about him needing to stop thinking so much and just own the job. Have some cockiness. Players won't have a lot of respect for you as a QB if you show self doubt or if you seem fine with being trashed all the time. I hope he comes in and says something like, "I'm ready to take over this team. I'm going to prove it to the players, coaches and fans. I'm here to tell you that you're looking at the next Buffalo Bills franchise QB. Let the QB competition begin. To all the doubters...go ahead, I dare you to bet against me." He needs to not only say it, but to say it with the conviction that it's a fact he knows to be true. -
Shaun Hill: Polian would take a hard look

That Bronco/Manning situation just looks weird to me. Until the Broncos and Manning make a deal he remains on the list. Even if Manning were cut loose, I'm sure he would go to the Texans for the easier division and more favorable game day conditions. -
Chicago Bears - Jay Cutler available?

I totally forgot about that. Looks like Foles might become an option though. I hear that the Chip is willing to go for broke to get Mariota. Although I wouldn't trade away our 2nd round pick for him. -

No one's paying him 15 million a year. If he's released then I'd expect a 2 or 3 year/10 million per (plus incentives) type of deal by the team that signs him. So basically he'll end up going to the team he wants to play for most because I don't see any team overpaying for Cutler ever again. He's burned that bridge. -

He's not a leader, he's just a guy who happens to be your talented veteran starting QB...LOL Let Fred Jackson be the team leader, he's great at it. -

I know what you mean, but the dude throws touchdowns. Maybe Rex and the defense would recharge his excitement for football? Just limited his tosses and have a great run game and defense. Sounds like a possible recipe for the Superbowl this year. -

It sounds like the Bears are moving on from Brandon Marshall, Matt Forte and Jay Cutler is not exactly getting a ringing endorsement from the new GM and head coach. Cutler's due 10 million on March 12th so a decision has to be made soon. It sounds like there's a chance he actually might be cut because nobody wants to trade for that contract. Why would they keep Cutler and get rid of Marshall and Forte? They wouldn't. IMO Cutler is gone either by trade or being release. I'd take Cutler, but only if the Bills are his first choice. I don't want him being even more unenthused than his current level of unenthusiasm(?). It'd be nice to have the QB situation at least settled for the next three years with Jay Cutler though. If they did get him I'd make sure he's only throwing the ball 25-30 times a game tops. There are other possible nice options for him like the Rams or Texans. The first thing I do is wait and see what transpires there. You never know what teams might do. Do the Broncos and Manning part ways? This is the week they try to hammer out a deal and who knows if the Broncos low ball him and Peyton says "see ya". Does Washington or Chicago pull the rip cord and go in a new direction leaving the Bills franchise favorable trade options? What are the Eagles going to do? Will that leave the possibility of adding Foles as an option for the Bills? Finally, will the Bills be able to draft Grayson in the 3rd? If so, then you'd rather sign an old veteran Shaun Hill type than sign a developing Jake Locker type. I hope the Bills do nothing now and just wait to see all of the dominos fall. Losing out on any of these guys is no big deal because there will be a handful of FA QBs left over like a Colt McCoy. No one out there is a long term answer anyways. That would be the only reason to strike a deal now. -
Thanks man. A LOT hinges on the running game because if they don't have one then Manuel will no doubt falter and the Bills will be "all in" in the QB market next year.
-
I see Manuel having 21 TD passes and 4 rushing TDs this year and that being good enough for the Bills getting into the playoffs. Of course this is providing they do have a solid running game. With Roman in charge, I think Manuel gets his "sea legs" and becomes comfortable as a starter in the NFL this year.

Gabbert was an epic disaster. Ponder was more stable but he literally had nothing to offer an NFL team in regards to arm, athleticism, mobility or size. EJ Manuel actually played as advertised, a project QB with high measurables who would probably take three years to develop into a franchise level QB (if he were to ever get there). He actually has shown a few true flashes unlike those two nothing QBs. A point that's been made over and over again is that if before Manuel played his first game everyone was told what his numbers would be after 14 games, and there was a poll was conducted here on how those numbers were received, 80% would be looking forward to seeing him in his third year. Marrone was a disaster as an NFL offensive minded head coach. He was as clueless as it gets. Let's see what he does with Roman. I'm expecting to see a huge difference in his play this year.
-
Gabbert and Ponder? This is why it's so hard to argue with some of you. Manuel showed much more promise than those two useless QBs. Check the stats. Locker is clearly comparable and on the same level as Manuel. Although I think that changes after Roman gets a hold of Manuel and coaches him up.

What now? (Now that McCown is off the table)
1billsfan replied to Uffalo Ills's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This year is EJ's year. There are no other better options out there and the haters simply need to stop living in denial. They should start looking at the all important RB position because that is a major facet of Roman's offenses success. What the haters (frankly all Bills fans if EJ can't get it done this year) should hope for is the Saints and/or Steelers having horrible years putting them in position to draft a QB to replace Brees or Rothlesberger in 2016. Maybe even the Giants or Chargers hit the skids and look to get rid of Manning or Rivers and draft a QB. One FA I'd try to sign in is Kellen Moore. I think he has the possibility of becoming a "where the heck did this QB come from?" NFL story. It's a remote possibility, but he's the only "lottery ticket" I see out there in FA. -
Pretty easy solution. Tell him to run when they drop eight.
-
You'll start arguing that Matt Cassell is going to beat out Manuel? McCown had a choice between competing with EJ for the starting job on the Bills or have the starting job all lined up in Cleveland. He wanted to play and he had doubts he could beat out Manuel. Not sure how you can see it any other way. Reality is not lining up with the notion that Manuel haters had that any veteran QB they bring in is better than him.
-
If this is true then the Bills are rolling with EJ Manuel as the starter. They just won't say so publicly. They'll probably draft a development QB in the 3rd or 5th rd this year and depending on how EJ plays this year, they'll have an eye on QBs in 2016 draft/FA/trade scenarios.
-
Maybe the EJ haters will finally get a grip and accept the reality that there was no QB coming in here better than Manuel. The first QB choice just said "no mas" to competing with him. I think next year the Bills will have viable trade options (they will have a 1st round pick to deal) to get an established successful veteran QB (if Manuel doesn't perform). This year was a very down year if you were looking for a QB and you didn't have a 1st round pick.

RUMOR: EJ Manuel Likely To Be Cut

"Roman and him (McCown) are good friends. Look for this to be completed tomorrow AM" He was wrong unless this thing gets completed by tomorrow, but I doubt it since he signed with Cleveland. -
RUMOR: EJ Manuel Likely To Be Cut
1billsfan replied to negativo's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Unfortunately we don't know that for sure. Marrone decided it was best to clip his wings and see if he could fly. Wouldn't this team have been better served to just let Manuel play in the style he plays his best? What's the downside? Let him play with his legs as an option and learn if he was the right or wrong choice by him either playing well, not playing well or getting hurt. Doing what Marrone did by just telling him to avoid injuries and turnovers only put Manuel's true evaluation and development on hold. I'm looking forward to seeing what he does under Roman's offense considering Kaepernick's success in it. -
They can't come up with a QB option that's better than Manuel so tearing him down with comments like that is the only thing left to do. They're frustrated because Manuel didn't magically turn into Andrew Luck. They were told he was going to take some time and he performed exactly as advertised. These fans just don't have the patience for it. It's a shame that they feel they have to go overboard when they know that Manuel has shown some real flashes for clutch play which is THE main trait for becoming a franchise QB. 1 fourth quarter comeback, 3 game winning drives and that Falcon game in Toronto sans fumbled clutch passes were not imaginary.

RUMOR: EJ Manuel Likely To Be Cut

I think "unlearned" is the wrong choice of word. Marrone clearly "coached" his best attributes out of him. Because Marrone is stupid. -
Bradford is always hurt. ALWAYS. That hugely factors into Manuel being the better option. There is no escaping the reality of Bradford being a walking injury just waiting to happen.
