  1. I wasn’t trying to infer that they were the same player. Just that Hughes is three years younger than Mario and he should be in the long term 10 year plan with Marcel Dareus, Kiko Alonzo, Preston Brown. When Mario is gone in 4 or 5 years, the Bills will tweak their system. Because they won’t find an identical model or clone of Mario Williams as his replacement. BTW, I think you are way off the mark in evaluating Hughes’ talent. The guy is a “baller” like James Harrison and Terrell Suggs. Not saying he’s as good, but he’s on that path to get very close to that level. This isn’t a Phil Hanson complimentary role type of player. The guy intimidates the opposing offenses. Lose some of that and see just how hard it is to stay on top.
  2. 20 sacks the last two years is not "easy" to replace. As long as Hughes is not looking for more than 10 million a year then it would be foolish for the Bills to mess with such a large and vital cog of this defense. If I were the Bills I'd sign Hughes with an eye to either replace Mario Williams or asking for him to take a pay cut in a couple of years. Hughes is three years younger than Mario and he should be seen as one of the long term nucleus players on the defense. The Bills don't have to pay for an elite QB, the cap number is going upward, there is no reason to not pay Hughes market value for the job well done and make sure you don't mess with the only good thing on this team, the defense.
  3. EJ Manuel has played better than Blake Bortles in their early NFL careers.
  4. In Keapernick's first two season's starting 2012 and 2013 he had a total of 5 games with 30 or more attempts including the playoff run to the Super Bowl. In 2014, he had 8 games with 30 or more attempts and his play dropped dramatically. In RGIII's first season he had 4 games with 30 or more attempts. In 2013 he had 10 games with 30 or more attempts and his play dropped dramatically. The lesson is that you don't try to force these promising QBs into the Brady or Manning mold. Hopefully Roman has learned that lesson. You hope to have a great running game and try to limit the "pitch count" of a limited QB to 20-29 attempts.
  5. I think the free agent/trades log jam breaks during draft week. I think that who ever they bring in (realistically of course) won't be good enough to write off EJ Manuel. There will be a battle for the starting QB spot this year.
  6. Good topic. I think that a lot of the problem is with offensive coaches who have 200 page play books with 1,000s of play variations. What I mean by that is that is I think coaches make QBs think too much and don't ever allow them to play with a clear mind. An athlete, especially a QB, is at their best when they let their natural instincts take over and they don't fear failure. It's why it seems that the majority of QBs no matter their skill level are at their best running a 2 min offense when the playbook becomes much more simplified. I've been saying all along that EJ Manuel still has not been given a real shot to show what he is as a QB because of Marrone's "avoid any risk at all costs" offense. Is EJ a potential throw the ball 30-40 times a game franchise QB? No way, but I think he is a guy with a potential to be good if he were told to stop thinking, take chances and play instinctively. I do see Manuel as potentially an average to above average NFL QB who is good enough to get the team in the playoffs, then can go on a hot streak kind of like Eli or Flacco. I'm looking forward to seeing how Manuel performs under a professional NFL offensive coach. It should be clear to everyone by now that Marrone was indeed a big anchor to Manuel's development, how much so we will get to see this year.
  7. The only reason I brought up Kellen Moore's name is because people were starting to tout Tyrod Taylor and I was like...huh???? I know next to nothing about college football, but I can look at their college stats and come to the conclusion that Kellen Moore is many times a better QB than Tyrod Taylor as a "diamond in the rough" free agent option because Moore clearly has a real talent for throwing the football. It seems clear that Taylor is a run first QB. I just don't get why Bills fans want a running QB over someone who's shown passing talent in college and has performed very well in preseason games. This board makes me laugh sometimes because I think it's all over the place. They want a franchise QB until they get Roman in here and now they want a QB that's looking to run first before he passes. If someone puts this for a vote, put me down for Kellen Moore over Tyrod Taylor. This is were the current state of QB options has taken us...LOL I think we can all agree that it's a sad state of affairs trying to come up with a solution to the QB problem.
  8. You don't have to have a rocket arm if you are the most accurate QB on the field and you know when to throw it. Because his "rag" arm would only hurt if he's slightly late or isn't accurate. At some point and time he will get his opportunity to play in a real game and we'll see if you're right. To my eyes, those throws were "NFL throws" and they looked 100 times better than "Kyle Orton" regular season throws circa 2014.
  9. That many rushing TDs is more an indictment than a plus for an NFL QB's prospects IMO. RGIII, Newton and Vick all got hurt eventually to the point where they had to stop running like it was still college. I went back and watched Kellen Moore's preseason game against the Patriots and the throws on his two TD drives were very impressive. He didn't throw it a lot (maybe 5 or 6 times?), but when he did he was on time and on target (only one pass was off the mark) especially on the TDs. It's amazing that this guy doesn't get any talk up considering how QB poor the NFL is right now. I really hope that the Bills sign Moore and put him in the mix.
  10. Tom Brady and Joe Montana were once said to have weak arms also. The big difference between Kellen Moore and Tyrod Taylor is that one guy knows how to throw the ball and the other guy knows how to run away from defenders. Moore literally threw 98 more TD passes than Taylor. Weak arm? Really? Moore knows how to throw to holes and anticipate where the receiver will be. I know that the "group think" is that Moore doesn't have the athleticism or size or arm strength to compete in the NFL. The funny thing is that if people knew who the true "diamond in the rough" QBs were then Brady and Wilson would have never been severely over looked. It's not like the guy is going to cost a fortune. I certainly would put my money and roster spot on Moore rather than Taylor. BTW, if Roman's system involves getting QBs who are better runners than passers then he needs a new system.
  11. College stats (because there's almost nothing to go by in the pros): Tyrod Taylor (free agent QB) 44 passing TDs 7017 total passing yds 57.2% completion rate Kellen Moore (free agent QB) 142 passing TDs 14667 total passing yds 69.8% completion rate I think you picked the wrong "flying under the radar" free agent QB.
  12. I think Spiller's going to the Jets because they have Gailey, money and word is they aren't bringing Chris Johnson back. As for the Bills, there is no way they go after Rice. They have their veteran RB and that's Fred Jackson who is their biggest leader on the team. I think the Bills will go RB with the #50 pick. A very good one will probably slide to them out of the top four of Gurley, Gordon, Coleman and Johnson.
  13. I'm sure a lot of Bills fans don't want him, but I would guess that RGIII is being referred to as the QB option not being talked about much.
  14. Tom Brady seems like a smart guy. He’s got the VS model wife, the family, the millions in the bank, 4 Superbowl rings, his health. It’d be surprising to me if he tempts fate and plays another down after next season. Are you really going to press your good luck going for ring number 5? I’ll bet that Belichick wouldn’t mind the challenge of trying to win a Super Bowl with Garrapolo. You know it irks him that many people think most of his success is only because he has had Tom Brady. Maybe Brady moves on to the Niners after next season and Belichick gets his opportunity to shoot down the critics, a mutual parting perhaps.
  15. You and I both know that it's true. Rex is a "his guys" kind of head coach. I fear this Bills defense is going to implode with so many player changes that the dynamic will be totally lost and they become a below average defense under Rex. Football is about fostering player bonding and relationships more than it is creating an "all star" team. Rex should ask Dan Snider if has ever worked for Washington.
  16. Revis isn’t worth the money he will sign for and the Bills proved last year that they don’t need him to have a top 5 NFL defense. This sounds like stupidity… 1. Change the scheme 2. Let Hughes and his 10 sacks a year go (because they aren’t signing both Hughes and Revis) 3. Sign Revis to replace a Bills corner in a defense that was 6th best interceptions Instead of giving the current defense a total makeover in an attempt to become a Jet team from a bygone year that didn’t win a Superbowl, how about they use that money to sign the top OG from the Niners instead? Our defense doesn’t suck Rex, our offense sucks Rex! I’m really starting not to like the hiring of Rex Ryan. He sounds like he has never learned from his mistakes and is waxing nostalgic for a Jet team that failed to get it done because their offense sucked more than enough to not get them to the Superbowl. FYI, I think that this news should clue everyone in that the Bills are probably going to sign Mark Sanchez as their starting QB.
  17. You've got to have some hope that the injuries were a freak thing that won't be an issue the rest of his career. But that still is a concern until proven otherwise.
  18. One thing EJ has over Bridgewater is his size and that's usually big deal for the QB position in the NFL. You look at Bridgewater and you see a WRs body that will eventually be injured and sidelined by a DT or DE.
  19. Teddy Bridgewater's first 13 games: 15 TDs total: 14 TDs passing / 1 Td rushing (12 INTs) 3 4QC / 3 GWD Cmp% 64 / YG 225 / Rating 85 OC: Norv Turner EJ Manuel's first 13 games: 17 TDs total: 14 TDs passing / 3 TDs rushing (10 INTs) 1 4QC / 3 GWD Cmp% 58 / YG 187 / Rating 77 OC: Nate Hackett I'm not saying that Manuel is as good or better than Bridgewater because I certainly don't think he is right now. However, I'm just pointing out that Manuel is looked upon by many around here and definitely around the league as this horrific QB disaster, while Bridgewater is being hailed as a great up and coming QB. Yet, the stats just don't mesh with that wide of a gap in perceptions. Especially given the fact that Manuel had the putrid combo of Marrone and Hackett while Bridgewater had Norv Freakin' Turner. Geez, imagine if Marrone stayed on as the Bills head coach???? How awesome is it that the Bills will now get a very true and accurate indication of Manuel's abilities? Greg Roman is the real deal. He is a very good NFL offensive coordinator who made a playoff QB out of both average talents like Alex Smith and Colin Kaepernick. If EJ Manuel can't max out his potential with this guy then he is a lost cause. It's time for Manuel to drop the humble, good soldier persona and start acting confident and cocky because he knows without a doubt that he's the Bills QB of the future and he won't be beat out by anybody they bring in. That is what this franchise and his team mates are waiting for him to do. Start acting like the starting QB and then start backing it up in practice against the best defense in the NFL.
  20. You would think that after the thousands of the crying NFL ads regarding attacks against woman, that Roger Goodell would have had the smarts not to treat Rachel Nichols like he wanted to punch her in the face.
  21. 10-13 million a year is the sweet spot IMO. Anything more, then even I might pass. Him and Dareus are the young guns so they should be getting very large contracts. Down the road they may have to consider letting Mario Williams go for cap reasons in a year or two since he's hitting 30 soon. Hughes is four years younger.
  22. Hmmm, the Patriots casting aspersions on the refs before the Superbowl? That's smart...LOL
  23. Exactly. He's proven himself to be the real deal and it's scary to think of how much better he will be under Rex. You don't mess with this defense. It's non negotiable. They will worry about the cap when EJ Manuel starts making it rain TD passes.
  24. I think where the Bills are right now, they are not bringing in another young project like Glennon. Given the choice, I'm pretty sure that Roman would rather have an athletic guy like EJ Manuel with a little less accuracy than a very unathletic guy with more accuracy like Mike Glennon. The reason is because NFL defenses are forcing QBs more and more to extend plays. Brady and Manning are becoming outdated models, the game has changed. Defensive players are too fast now. Athletic QBs like Luck, Wilson, Rodgers who extend plays with their legs are what you are looking for now in a QB. So Manuel will be the project "athletic" QB they hope to flip the "franchise QB" switch on this year. IMO the QB they will bring in to compete for the starting job will be either Hoyer or Sanchez IMO. A cheap veteran QB who is there if Manuel does not step up in a big way and who could be a placeholder for the next young QB they target in either this years or next years draft.
