I have actually been pointing you to real evidence to support my opinion. A video of a coach telling you what they are teaching Manuel to do, reading assignments about Parcells and Simms in the early years. You just are choosing to be lazy, ignore it and pretend I didn’t point you to anything at all. I’m not doing the research again. I’m done wasting my time. As for Rex, he let Geno air it out and Geno was lighting it up at the end of last season. He’s received a real NFL education unlike Manuel with “no balls” Marrone. I have no idea if Manuel will be good or not. What I do know if that Marrone was such a buffoon as a head coach, that if he thinks EJ sucks, it would lead me to believe the odds are EJ Manuel is going to win the Superbowl as QB of the Bills.

You were not clear enough in letting the fans here know that your prediction was your own bold opinion having nothing to do with your insider. I don't even remember your responding in that thread when fans were debating whether that bold prediction was you using insider info or if it was your opinion only. IMO, I think you got very wrong info by an old Marrone regime holdover who thought he knew what he was talking about and who was out of the loop on the QB thing. It was kind of a ridiculous notion. Whaley is still here, he hand picked a known project QB and it's now year three with a professional coaching staff who will develop Manuel one more year to see what they have. That bold prediction was clearly meant to get the pot stirred and you can't get upset when it blows up and people call you out. Anyone who's considered an insider has a little bit of responsibility to be much more clear when something is your opinion. All different people read this message board. I'm sure this includes a few Bills personnel and players from time to time. You should be very clear next time and tell everyone that no one told you anything and that you are making a guess as a fan with no knowledge whatsoever.

Fool me once? It was well known that EJ was a project QB who would take a couple of years if he were ever to develop into a franchise QB. Maybe you never liked the pick and you'd rather make it seem like EJ "fooled" you and other Bills fans when you were never in his corner to begin with. That's kind of disingenuous if that's the case. At least keep it real here.

Marrone was as strong as a wet noodle, his players knew it and they took advantage. A real "Captain", since you brought up the term "mutiny", makes a decision and doesn't bail on it when things start to get bumpy. Marrone quitting just might be the greatest thing to happen to the franchise since Jim Kelly came to Buffalo.

Thanks for letting me know that EJ Manuel is not the accurate passer that Joe Montana was. Feel better now? Like Marrone, maybe you care more about the WRs feelings than you do about developing your young QB. If Marrone was a real head coach worth anything he'd have told them not to worry about the QB and to do their job. Marrone is a man who cared more about what people were saying about him than in doing his actual job. The WRs clearly saw that he was weak and they pounced on it. Rex won't be played like that. He'd literally laugh at them and tell them to grow a sack and catch the ball.
-
If EJ is winning games as the starting QB, Rex Ryan will tell them to either shut up or leave. If he isn't then he won't be starting anymore.

Want to know the name of a former NFL QB who had the same amount of TDs (19) and Win/Loss record (6-8) as EJ Manuel after first 14 starts?…Joe Montana How funny is that stat considering all of the hyperbole regarding how horrible EJ is.

You will never become a franchise QB if you don’t force the ball and challenge the defense. It is simply something that could never happen. You can’t name me one franchise QB that doesn’t take chances. An NFL defense’s best friend is an opposing HC/OC who tells his starting QB not to take chances. If I was the owner and I saw the Hackett interview, I’d have called Marrone in, asked him if that was the plan and if he said yes then I’d have fired him on the spot. Go and research Phil Simms talking about what Parcells would tell him in practice and on game days very early in his career. It was the total opposite of what Doug Marrone was teaching Manuel. Rex Ryan will let Manuel take chances downfield because that's what he did with Sanchez and Smith. I don't care if someone thinks he isn't going to be the answer. I just have a problem with people who don't give him any shot at all given that he was a project coming out and he was coached by such an amateur. The QB position takes a lot of time to master. Just look at former 1st rd pick Jerry Hughes, it took him a few years just to become a great LB. He was once so bad that a team traded him for Kelvin Sheppard. That's at LB, not QB.

It's on video dude. Straight from Nate Hackett's mouth. I'll let you find it though, I'm done searching for it and posting it here time and time again to prove the haters don't know what they're talking about in regards to what they were telling EJ to do and not do.
-
Aaaaah, well there's the rub. Name one guy who got better on offense under Doug Marrone. Sometimes excuses are valid. Marrone was telling a QB who thinks too much and strives to be perfect, to not turn the ball over ever and to never force the issue. That's a failure game plan for developing a franchise NFL QB. It would be once if the haters would actually have the patience to wait see what EJ does under Rex and Roman before quitting on him. These are professional coaches with a track record of success. Marrone was a dunce.

I’m sure these are the same people who were saying that they understood that Manuel was a project and that he was going to take a couple of years before he could ever develop into a franchise QB. Yet, when the rubber met the road and EJ put up an exact copy of the production level that everyone envisioned a raw QB like him would produce, they bailed on him. That's the mentality of today's fans. They don't have the patience for the development part.

Should we draft a developmental QB late round? If so who?
1billsfan replied to Bocephuz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'm a supporter of EJ, but even I'd like the Bills to add a QB in this draft to just increase your chances of finding the guy. After JW and MM, I don't think any of the QBs left over deserve a 2nd rd grade because they all seem like "backup only" QB prospects with only a very slight chance to turn into a franchise QB. My plan would be to have the 3rd rd pick in play, because that's the spot where you can take a chance on the most important position if the QB you like is still there. The more I read, the more I'm thinking that Brett Hundley is the only prospect after JW and MM that has the potential for becoming franchise QB. Yes, he's obviously very raw. But you're picking him in the 3rd round. Now if Hundley isn't there in the 3rd, my backup plan would be drafting a late round developmental guy like Brandon Bridge with some great measurables and raw ability. -
Per ESPN, RG3 Could be had in a QB Trade

That can happen when you have an idiot coach who told him to never force the ball and never turn the ball over. I think you'll see a different EJ under Greg Roman. -
Which QB wins? Make a case for him to start.
1billsfan replied to scribo's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think Manuel starts because he is going to beat out Cassel in a fair and honest QB competition in training camp. On this board, I think Manuel has been underrated and Cassel overrated. Both QBs are bottom 10 starting QB material, however Manuel will show he is the slightly better QB with the added plus that he's still developing and will get better. How much better is the big question. As for Taylor, I think that he's going to be the 3rd QB but Roman will have a "wildcat" package for him that they will use on occasion. That's my prediction. Having said that I don't care if Cassel or Taylor wins the job, just as long as the QB who wins it is looking great and the offense looks like a point scoring force to be reckoned with and not a "don't screw it up" afterthought of past Rex teams. -

From the way outside looking in, I think part of his problem is that he seems to have a golfer-like mentality. What I mean by that is he has an individual sport mentality. Football is all about team and becoming a band of brothers. Not sure how you'd mesh RGIII's individual minded personality within the team concept. I guess before you make the trade you have a real long conversation about whether he is willing to change his tune and be about the Buffalo Bills team and not about RGIII. If he continues to push for wanting to be left alone and stay on an island then I'd have to pass. If he sincerely wants to change his approach and be all about promoting his team mates then I'd trade for him. As much as I am a supporter of Manuel, I think that RGIII is a better QB and he may become a great player if put in the right system. If that system is what Roman is going to do here then I think that might be the game changer which would propel the team to greatness. -

How about this for a scenario: Mariota drops to #5. Washington trades pick to Eagles for a boatload of picks and Sam Bradford. Washington trades RGIII to Bills for EJ Manuel as insurance in case Bradford gets and a conditional 2016 pick. I definitely could see something like this happen. -
the Bills new spread offense attack
1billsfan replied to BackInDaDay's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
EJ is going to be the starter. I think it's probably very long odds that Cassel will be able to beat him out for the job seeing how he doesn't bring anything more to the table than EJ other than experience. Manuel has speed, size and mobility that Cassel can't offer yet probably makes Roman drool thinking about the possibilities of using Manuel's running skills in conjunction with the elite skill players they have now. IMO Roman will pick Manuel over Cassel just like he picked Kaepernick over Smith. -
I'm really excited for this season too! I just don't think Matt Cassel is full time starting material. He may have to be, but my hope is that either Manuel or Taylor takes off in Roman's offense and can become our franchise QB. Making the pro bowl five years ago isn't a big deal when you consider the free fall Cassel's career has taken ever since. I guess I'm just trying to break it to Bills fans that Cassel isn't that "pro bowl" QB anymore. The best we can hope for is around the 20-25th rated QB IMO. No sense in trying to sugar coat it. If Manuel or Taylor can't get it done then the Bills are going after the "big fish" next year. Someone will hopefully shake free either through a trade or free agency. This year was really horrible if you were looking for even an average QB to pick up.
-
I just think that Cassel's ship has sailed in terms of being the guy you are counting on to be your season long starting QB. He's 32 and the last time he was counting on to be "the guy" and was successful in that roll was five seasons ago. I think that he's probably moved on mentally from having that burning desire to be the starting QB. Once you've lost that, you're kind of done as a true starting QB if that is the case. That doesn't mean that he can't be good in a back up role and win a couple of games for your team if pressed into action. I think he fits that roll very nicely. IMO, Matt Cassel as the Bills 2015 starting QB for the full season is like trying to fit a square peg in a round hole. The only way I see Cassel starting over Manuel is if Manuel fails to show leadership which is possible. Bills players will be expecting EJ to bring the swagger and confidence this year. You can hear it all of their interviews. If he doesn't then the Bills will be forced to start either Cassel or Taylor.
-
Let's cut to the chase. Do you think that Cassel is a good starting QB? I don't. I consider him to be a good back up QB. That's a good role for him at this point in his career. I think that right now EJ Manuel is a slightly better QB overall (not saying much I know), he's faster, more athletic, much more mobile and nearly as accurate as Cassel. The big difference is that Manuel is still developing and has a much higher ceiling (yes he has a lower floor too, but that's why they brought in Cassel). It stands to reason that Manuel will be better this year. If Cassel were a "lights out" accurate passer with a 65% completion rate then I'd totally rethink my position here. But that's not the case. IMO he's a nice insurance plan for the Bills if Manuel either gets hurt or gets benched because he proves that he's not good enough to the current coaching staff.

Crennel was a desperate head coach because Cassel sucked so bad for two whole years. Cassel was the main reason that team was so bad. Cassel's last four games in that season were a disaster, sorry I wasn’t more specific for you. When was the last time fans were so furious that they were flying banners to bench the starting QB? Cassel’s starting record for his last four years is 9-17, look it up again.
-
The REASON there was a new coaching staff was BECAUSE Matt Cassel SUCKED for two whole years! He sucked so bad that the entire Chiefs organization had to be overhauled. The fans were in revolt. Are you being serious here?
-
Oh, I get it now! It wasn't Matt Cassel who was the failure, it was the other guys on the team. Let's just completely forget that Alex Smith was 11-5 the season after they dumped Matt Cassel because that was just a fluke. I'm so relieved that it wasn't his fault, the Chiefs were stupid and we have him now.
-
You think Crennel made a knee-jerk decision to bench Cassel? He played so bad for so long he gave him no choice. Cassel was a disaster the last four games of 2011. By mid 2012, Cassel sucked so bad that a Chiefs fan club flew a banner calling for Cassel to be benched. Since his last 10 win season in 2010, Cassel has had a horrible 9-17 record as an NFL starter. His QB rating is in the low 70s. I suggest you go to pro football reference and just look at Cassel's numbers in his last two years with the Chiefs. He was Matt Shaub (free fall in production) before Matt Shaub, and Matt Shaub was a much better QB than Cassel ever was at one time. I think that some Bills fans are fooling themselves into thinking that Cassel is good enough to win the job, be our starting "game manager" QB and guide the Bills to the playoffs. Cassel is like a shot fighter IMO. He had his brief time of being good, but then either the talent is no longer there, or he's scared or the fire is no longer there. He isn't going to magically transform himself back to the confident 2010 Cassel, just like Shaub isn't going to turn into the 2012 Shaub. If Chiefs fans read this thread, they would probably think you guys are being sarcastic in your support for Cassel.
-
I think Cassel offered the bare minimum of what the Bills were looking for and unfortunately there were no better option available. I think to make anything more of what he brings is a mistake. IMO he is the emergency veteran QB that the Bills needed in case Manuel (or possibly Taylor) fails to perform at an acceptable level.
