Talks between Bills and Chris Brown heating up.
1billsfan replied to PIZ's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I want the Bills to draft Willis, Peterson or Lynch. I don't even want C. Brown on the Bills. Willis because the guy looks like he'll be a monster defender for years to come and it's a need position on the Bills. Peterson or Lynch because if Willis is not there then I feel like the Bills had better get a dynamic runningback on their team quickly because this teams defense is not stout enough for a team that doesn't score in bunches. A runningback by commitee is more for teams that have stout defenses. Plus why pay up for Brown because you KNOW he'll always be hurt and can't play for one reason or another. It's not good for team moral when you have players sitting around not pulling their weight. Lynch isn't afraid to play hurt and sounds like he's as tough as nails. Maybe they should pick him even if Willis and Peterson are still on the board. -
I have a strange feeling that Dallas
1billsfan replied to 1billsfan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I hear ya, but Dallas always wants that big brand new shiny car (it's the Jerry Jones way). If they feel like Barber can get the job done then I read the trading of Jones thing way wrong. It's always fun to look at the different draft scenarios. It seems like they change daily with the player trades and free agency signings. -
I have a strange feeling that Dallas
1billsfan replied to 1billsfan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'm sure I'll hear many more problems with my hypothesis. As for Barber, I really find it hard to believe that he's the workhorse they are looking for. He's a talented spot duty runner, but I bet that Dallas wants their next "star" runningback. -
I haven't seen any rumors to linking Dallas to wanting Peterson but watch out for them to make a play to move up. I'm just throwing out this possibility. Why did they shop Julius Jones? Hmmm. Could it be they were looking for an extra pick for a deal to move up in the first for Peterson? Jerry Jones has big ties to that conference with him going to Arkansas and his buddy ex-sooner coach Barry Switzer. Julius Jones has obviously not become his next "Emmit Smith", this alone makes Peterson an easy guess as a Dallas target player. I have a feeling that once Peterson starts to drop, Dallas will start making calls to move up. Depending on how much they are willing to give up this could potentially work in the Bills favor IF he were to drop to us at pick 12. On the value chart it would cost Dallas a swap of first rounders with Buffalo and their 2nd and 4th round picks. Since they know the Bills have a real need and could take him, they may be willing to give up their 2nd and 3rd (depending on how much they want him it's not an impossiblity) if the Bills played hardball. Best case scenario here is the Bills having Dallas' #22 pick in the first round, 2 second rounders and 2 third rounders. Here's a quick mock for starters (remember this is for entertainment purposes only) 1. Puzlusny LB 2a trade for San Diego's Michael Turner 2b best cornerback available (Damien Hughes, Tanard Jackson, Josh Wilson?) 3a Ben Patrick TE 3b best WR available (Jacoby Jones?) Then again the Bills could just tell Dallas to buzz off and select Peterson themselves. There are so many possibilities in this draft.
-
Actually it's more the opposite scenario. The Texans are obviously trying to win with veterans now (Shaub, Green) and they won't be wasting a pick on a RB (they have their starter). The Texans have a lot of holes so it would make zero sense to select a position where they already have a starter when they no longer have a second round pick. You don't select Peterson then begin finding starters in the third round.

Marshawn Lynch may have back problems
1billsfan replied to Chicken Wing '73's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This smacks of GM pre-draft disinformation. I spent the last half hour doing searches on Marshaun Lynch's back injury and the only thing I found was this: http://www.nfl.com/draft/profiles/2007/lynch_marshawn "Lynch was named All-American and All-Pac-10 first team and Pac-10 Offensive Player of the Year in 2006. At times playing with two sprained ankles and a sore back, he still led the conference in both rushing (104.31 yards per game) and all-purpose yardage (137.31 ypg.)." I wonder if one of the sources was the Packer GM. Don't believe anything you read regarding what NFL GM's think about players good or bad from now until after draft. Sounds like the kid isn't afraid to play hurt, that's a positive. -
Michael Bush has another surgery on the broken leg
1billsfan replied to syhuang's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
At least we won't have to read anymore "Bill's should draft Bush" posts. You don't draft guy's that big who've broken their leg that badly unless it's the sixth or seventh round and the risk of that player not panning out is greatly diminished. I doubt he was even on the Bills board anyways. -
Patrick Willis and trade back into the 1st for Michael Bush.
1billsfan replied to PIZ's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Please don't compare Hall of Famer Thurman Thomas to Michael Bush. Thurman was an all around athletic runningback that could run, block and catch in which the Bills were beyond lucky to have the opportunity to still draft in the second round. The risk for drafting a player like him was a no brainer. From all of the draft reports I've read, Michael Bush lacks the burst and speed to be a big play threat. This is before his lumbering 250 pound frame and bad leg hits life in the NFL. Do you honestly feel that Bush can even come close to Thurman's production in the NFL? I don't. He's more likely to have a similar career path to that of Ron Dayne. No way the Bills draft Bush. -
Patrick Willis and trade back into the 1st for Michael Bush.
1billsfan replied to PIZ's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I can't see how the Bills are targeting drafting another RB who's recently had a really bad leg injury seeing how Willis McGahee never lived up to his post-injury "potential". This dude is going to be a 250 runningback with a rod in his leg. Does not exactly conjure up visions of Bush having an outstanding NFL career. Since Bush is a very risky pick, I'm sure the Bills will steer far away from him on draft day. -
Marv showed that character and chemistry are important
1billsfan replied to Tipster19's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I believe that since the Bills are heading full steam to the cover 2 defense, that Hall is not even on the Bills board. The Bills will probably draft a guy like Hughes in the second or a CB in the third that is more of a read and react than a lockdown type of corner. I think all signs are pointing to either Peterson or Lynch given their need at RB and the #12 position. I think Jaroun's talk of A Train (no matter how much he likes him) being part of a RB by comittee is nothing but them throwing out a smokescreen for teams that are looking to trade up in front of the Bills to get either Peterson or Lynch. -
Were we prepared for Whitner to replace Milloy? Yes. Were we prepared for Simpson to replace Vincent? Yes. Are we prepared for Youboty to replace Clements? We should be. No doubt Youboty will have to earn the starting spot in training camp, but I certainly feel prepared if he ends up being Clements replacement. I still feel that the Bills will take a CB either in the second of third round for depth.

Be Careful what you wish for...

1. Your fact is more of a fallacy. Their track record is a mixed bag (certainly not miserable). OJ was an all time great, A. Smith was an average back that helped the Bills get into their last playoff appearance who would have been the MVP were it not for a last second miracle play, McGahee was also an average back who's been the only bright spot in our offense until JP and Evans surpassed his level of play mid season of 2006. Greg Bell was a decent back too. The other two can be seen as miserable. All of which has absolutely NO EFFECT on the potential careers of Peterson or Lynch as Buffalo Bill starting tailbacks. 2. How do you know they're not a very good team? They've improved their offensive line, JP and Lee Evans had started to send shockwaves to opposing secondaries which by all indications will continue in 2007, all of those rookies that played so well will be in their second year having 16 games worth of experience. There aren't any guarantees in the draft. Just as you warn poor old Marv that he'd better be right if he's drafting either Peterson or Lynch, he also has to be right if he's passing on them. Because you're assuming whoever we do pick will have a better chance at having a bigger impact on the Bills. If Peterson or Lynch were to light the league on fire in 2007 then the Bills would have a different track record regarding 1st round RBs. That of passing on Dillon, Johnson and either Peterson/Lynch (maybe even both). They'd also have a lot of ticked off fans wondering why they took (insert name of rookie LB, CB, DT) instead of that Peterson/Lynch running like crazy through NFL defenses. Now remember, just because you're older than a second grader doesn't mean you're smarter than one. -

I was going to bring this up but I didn't want to burst their bubbles. Hey, wasn't Flowers supposed to be a defensive end? Well we can just forget Adams or Anderson then. It's a damn good thing we don't have to waste a pick on Levi "Mike Williams II" Brown. Who cares anyways, we're screwed. -

This is by far the weakest argument for why the Bills shouldn't draft Peterson or Lynch. -
Your friend is not stable. My guess is that every night he blows out the candles in his Kevin Curtis basement shrine, goes upstairs and puts on his Kevin Curtis jammies, crawls under his Kevin Curtis blanket, then kisses his Kevin Curtis pillow before going to sleep and dreaming of Kevin Curtis.
-
You're absolutely right, I retract that remark.

I was replying to another post regarding what the value is of the Bills 1st, 2nd and 3rd. As for the original post, trying to move from 12 to 2 using our 2 thirds would never happen. Even Matt Millen isn't that stupid.
-
Using the Bills 1st, 2nd and high 3rd pick... 1880 = 4th overall (1800 points) There is no reason for the Bills to trade away so many picks. If Peterson's gone, just select Lynch if they are determined to go RB.

Who sees Green Bay trading up with us in the draft?
1billsfan replied to Tipster19's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
There is no logical reason for the Bills NOT to take Peterson if he were to fall to them. That's a move that'll haunt a franchise for years and years. -
Yes, but I don't need to tell you that JP sucks and the Bills need to move up that far to draft Brady Quinn. I mean, let's get real here. Sorry man, I just couldn't help it.
-
I disagree big time. I don't see any runningbacks in Frank Gore's league being drafted in the third round this year. Hunt, Irons and Walker are career backup players and special-teamers nothing more. Unless Harrell goes in the thrid (which he won't be there) the same goes for defensive tackle. Who's the top corner that you'd want so badly, rather than having the Bills take Willis, Okoye or Peterson/Lynch?

1billsfan replied to Tipster19's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think trading back is a really really bad idea. At 12 we are practically assured of getting a great prospect and possible pro-bowler. If Peterson, Lynch, Willis and Okoye are all off the board (very slim chance of that happening) then I guess they should consider a trade down. As for Posluszny, from what I've read the guy had a subpar senior season, had a gimpy leg and needed to wear a leg brace during games. This is BEFORE he enters his life as a linebacker in the NFL. He sounds like a great guy but for how long and how good can this guy expect to be at the next level? If he were there in the second maybe, but the Bills should not be giving any picks away to get Posluszny. I also am not buying into Jaroun's runningback by commitee theory. A-Train is a mighty fine backup, but with a team that's as young and green on defense the Bills will be needing to score a lot of points. So whether it's this year or next, they will eventually have to find a "starting" runningback that will handle the ball 20 times a game. As for cornerback, I will be completely ticked if they use a 1st round pick on another DB after 3 of the top 4 picks were DBs in 2006. I say let Youboty fight it out with Greer and Thomas. We gave 4 rookies that chance last season so give him a shot in his second year with Nate now a Niner. -
So given the hypothetical choice between Peterson, Okoye or Branch you'd take one of the DTs? I think that if the Bills were able to get Peterson (even using one of their 3rds as a trade up if he started to fall) they'd officially be on the fast track to being a contender. Branch sounds like he has laziness issues which is probably why his stock has fallen so far off and though Okoye has a huge upside, he's still only 19 and may only be projected as having an impact a couple of years from now, not immediately.

Was he putting on velcro sneakers and a clip-on tie when he said this?

Exactly how does what he said pass for "creaming" in his pants? Relax dude.
