Are you kidding me? Frazier would be stupid if he turned down the Bills offer. He isn't a 36 year old wonder kid like Schottenheimer. The guy's in his 50's and needs to strike while the iron is hot. Being that old, he should know all too well that if he stays as a DC another year and the Vikings lose key defensive players to either free agency or injury then his name could easily fall off the radar next year. Frazier's a smart guy and he's not turning down the Bills job if offered.

Woah - Bills offered HC job to Harbaugh
1billsfan replied to BillnutinHouston's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'm relieved that the Bills have done their due diligence with regards to trying to get the best talent and have made valid attempts to hire the top tier guys like Shanahan, Cowher and Harbaugh. Going forward I'm completely cool with Leslie Frazier or even possibly Jason Garrett or Sean McDermott (if Frazier asks for crazy contract numbers). I just hope they don't interview Grimm who's never held a "real" NFL coaching job. -
Grimm Likely to Rebuff Interview Request

Where did I say he was? He was being mature and respectful when he told the Bills he was not interested in the freaking job. Are you thick? -

So in effect he'd be wasting their valuable time. If the Bills a had good QB situation then he'd probably be attracted to the job and interview. He doesn't want the job and is doing the mature thing. -

That would be disrespectful to the Bills who are looking only for candidates that want the job. It would look poorly on Schottenheimer if he did interview with the Bills and then turned down the offer to go back and be the OC with the Jets. He did the right thing. I'm pretty sure that a guy like Schottenheimer who's been around the NFL his entire life knows how to interview for a head coaching job. -
Grimm Likely to Rebuff Interview Request

I can see why a guy like Schottenheimer would turn down the Bills offer. Young up and coming OC in the media capital of the world. He'll get plenty of chances to be a head coach, and with a team that either has real QB to develop or one who's already on the roster. But Grimm is a "running game coordinator" and has never held a "real" job in the NFL. If he does turn down the Bills, he's flat out stupid not grabbing the opportunity presented to him. I hope he turns them down because Grimm doesn't exactly strike me as the football genius type. Would much rather have Frazier, Garrett, Rivera, Billick or Fassell before Grimm. -
This would make a great new SNL character...Mr. Way Too Sensitive Guy.

Shotty Jr. is too arrogant for his own good...
1billsfan replied to BillsPhan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think that if the Bills were in a position to draft a QB that he really liked, then he'd at least be interested in the job. The Bills aren't in that position and he probably isn't too enthusiastic about developing a QB that wasn't an highly talented first round draft pick. They certainly aren't going to be able to draft Bradford, perhaps Clausen slips but maybe he isn't a big fan of Clausen's talents. -

It's actually a smart move by Schottenheimer. He's still very young and is clearly enjoying his growing success with Sanchez and the Jets. The Bills job has no good and viable QB, and apparently no good and viable QB is seen coming here in the near future. Why risk a promising coaching future on a team that literally has no QB? Schottenheimer will take his chances that there will more opportunities that will open up and wind up taking a job that at least has an answer to the QB situation. I don't fault him for turning down the offer to interview. -
Bills FO, please just hire Perry Fewell already
1billsfan replied to 1billsfan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
...and neither Cowher or Shanahan are walking through that door. The answer is obviously no and there comes a point when hiring Perry Fewell is the better option than hiring your 5th or 6th non-Fewell candidate on this potential head coaching list. Frazier and Grimm are complete question mark candidates coming here from the NFC. I always said that there was a point when I'd want Fewell back as the head coach and to me, we're reaching that point. I'm officially cool with Fewell. I say hire him already and lets start looking forward to the draft. Maybe Fewell being our head coach was just meant to be and he truly IS the guy to lead us to the long awaited next great era of Buffalo Bills football. -

I wish we knew more about the guy. Because if he is in the Tony Dungy/Dick Jauron mold then hands down I'd rather see Fewell get the job. I was impressed with Fewell's head coaching job given the situation he was thrust into. Love the positive, emotional go-get-em personality. With the choices that are left, I fear that the Bills are letting a potentially very good head coach go just for the sake of change. -

I saw a couple of interviews with Frazier and he just gave me a vibe of being a quiet guy in the Tony Dungy and Dick Jauron mold. I don't think that is a good fit after four years of Jauron. I'm not saying he won't be a good coach if given the right situation, just saying that given the choice, this team needs an A type personality like Fewell rather than the stoic non-emotional type of Frazier. -

Other than make our players look like they were having fun and playing hard again, yeah he did nothing. -

I'm sure that Lovie and Fewell both know that if the Bills job is offered that Perry is allowed to accept the Bills head coaching job. I would think that was the first matter that was discussed between the two. What we don't know is if the Bills flat out told him he was no longer being considered. Which knowing the Bills is possible. -
...to the way Dick Jauron coached. He knows our team inside and out and did not seem overwhelmed at all when given the reigns of the team. I really liked the way our team responded to his coaching style and if the Bills hire him to a bargain contract then maybe in a year or two if he fails the Bills will be a more attractive spot to land a more experienced coach so long as the QB situation has been solidified. C'mon Bills fans. Time to cut bait and realize that Perry Fewell IS TRULY the best fit as head coach after the embarrassment of getting turned down by Brain freaking Schottenheimer. Frazier looks like the second coming of the "quiet and stoic" Dick Jauron and Russ Grimm is someone that has never been given a real big boy NFL job since he's been a coach in this league. If this is what's left, I want Perry back if for no other reason that he's a sure thing in terms of being an emotional and active participant in leading this team. Time for the front office to do the right thing and promote from within.

Grimm tells us why the Bills gig isn't that good.
1billsfan replied to DarthICE's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
That's another bull___ title like the "running game coordinator". If Grimm is so great then why isn't he the offensive coordinator? Seriously, there are fans here that are angry that we are going to have to choose a guy who's a current offensive or defensive coordinator in the league. Russ isn't even entrusted with those duties. Assistant head coach is another silly title that means absolutely nothing. I just don't want the Bills to hire a guy who's been hit in the head a few thousand times like Grimm. Is that the reason he doesn't have a real title with real duties and responsibilities? -

1billsfan replied to DarthICE's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I really don't care what a "running game coordinator" thinks. He has a loser title that screams I'm too stupid to be given the responsibility of an offensive coordinator. -
So you think that Schottenheimer lacks ability because...........? He's only coached up a rookie qb to the point were his team won a road playoff game in convincing fashion. If Frazeir was such a great leader of men, why then is he STILL not a head coach at 50 years old? That's pretty long in the tooth for being a rookie head coach. After four years of watching stoic wall flower coaching, I don't want another guy like that. Sorry, but Frazeir looks like he has that same kind of Dungy/Jaroun coaching demeanor to me. Plus, he's coming from the NFC North division and knows absolutely nothing about the AFC East.
-
Sometimes it's about coaching demeanor. My worry with Frazier is that on the surface he appears to be that of the quiet and stoic variety. Kind of in the Tony Dungy, Dick Jauron mold. Schottenheimer looks like he has more of a commanding, take charge demeanor. That is a BIG part of this decision. The Bills can not afford to hire another guy that will just stand there looking stearn and stoic. The more I think about it, the more I like Schottenheimer more than Frazier for that reason alone. The added plus is that Schottenheimer is an AFC guy. Not only an AFC guy but an AFC East guy! Frazier has little clue about the AFC East and I don't want him to have to take a year to learn the best approach to beat the other players and teams.

What part of being turned down by Shanahan, Cowher and Gruden don't you get? The Bills made an honest attempt at all of these guys. This team simply does not have a QB situation that would make them feel comfortable that they'd eventually have success here. It's clearly just not an attractive enough job even for a boat load of money. So you have to just accept that the Bills will have to find coaching success from the NFL assistants. Look at it this way, usually the Bills would never have a shot at the "top" assistants, this year they have the pick of the litter.
-
Giving a 2nd round pick would be foolish in my opinion. This team is at least two years from contending and McNabb will be a shell of his former self by then. That's why I'd only give them a lowball offer. If they bite, great! If not, move on either with Brohm and/or someone in this year's or next year's draft to develop. This team seriously needs to bolster their OL, LB, DE positions so that when they do find "the guy" he'll have the team around him to take us all the way.

Terrible????... http://www.pro-football-reference.com/play...0/gamelog/2009/ 3 games - 88.9 QB rating, 4 TDs, 741 yds, 2 consecutive 300 yd games
-
I'm not saying that they would bite. But they did take on Vick, so maybe they would take a chance on Lynch. As for the draft picks, no way I give them any of our 1-3rd round picks for McNabb. That just doesn't make sense for a team that's in a rebuilding mode like we are. This team needs many good young players for the hopefully bright future ahead for the team.
-
I'd offer them the choice between a 4th round pick or Marshawn Lynch. McNabb's age, injury issues are a recipe for disaster with the current state of the Bills offensive line. That's why I wouldn't go overboard with an offer. I could imagine the Bills giving them a second round pick or McKelvin and having it blow up in their face when McNabb plays in only a handful of games.

Shanahan Can Actually Say It's Not About the Money...
1billsfan replied to BigBuff423's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'm guessing that NYS taxes are much hirer than VA. That should be factored in when dealing with the big big bucks. The Bills will always have to overpay coaches and FAs partly because of this.
