NFL Comp Committee to examine Sudden Death Rule
1billsfan replied to The Big Cat's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I thought you were advocating the addition 15 minute quarter. This society has become a bunch of whiners in general. I love the perceived "unfairness" of the rule. Life isn't fair, grow a pair and if you don't like it you should have tried a little harder during those first 60 minutes. I hate hate hate the college overtime, it's a bastardized version of the game to me. -
NFL Comp Committee to examine Sudden Death Rule
1billsfan replied to The Big Cat's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Two things... 1. No Sudden Death ruins the sense of urgency and suspense at the end of a game which thrives on those two things. 2. These men had 60 minutes to decide who was the best team that day. It's a politically correct "feel good" solution in game that's supposed to be the toughest on the planet. Win it in 60 or live with the consequences. That's life, life is not always "fair" and it's not supposed to be always "fair". -
NFL Comp Committee to examine Sudden Death Rule

I totally agree. Plus one huge effect is that it would totally change the 4th quarter suspense of NFL games. When in a tie game situation, both teams know that they'll get a possession, the NFL would lose ALL of it's 4th quarter drama. Why would a team want to risk trying to force the ball down a long field with only two minutes to play? Both teams have 60 minutes to score enough points to win, too bad if you lose the coin toss. Stop crying and play some defense or try an onsides kick you babies. I can't believe they are trying to fix a game that is so loved just the way it is. Morons. -
Andy Stern on Deficit Commission Panel
1billsfan replied to Magox's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
This is outrageous. Let's stop sugar-coating it. The democrat party has become the communist party (they just can't admit it publically)... Jarrett (closest advisor) = communist Jones (green jobs czar) = communist Dunn (communications director) = communist Stern (person granted most visits with the president) = communist Obama (communist mentor, advisors) = communist Obama is for clearly pushing the agenda of the union worker. That's why he wants to take over the health care system (a necessary step towards unionizing 1/6th of the US economy), that's why he wants to tell people how to think and if they still don't agree basically call his detractors too stupid to understand his message, and that he knows best, and that he's ramming it through for their own good. If anyone believes that he actually cares about reducing the health care costs of the average American people then you are indeed the stupid one. Obama comes from the cesspool of Chicago politics, where there's always a hidden agenda behind the curtain. With adding Andy Stern to that panel, Obama is doing the exact OPPOSITE of what needs to be done in terms of deficit reduction for the greater good of America's future generations. Specifically, what new New Jersey Governor Chris Christie is doing to the bloody murder screams of the union workers... http://www.nj.com/politics/index.ssf/2010/...ch_on_budg.html "Let’s tell our citizens the truth—today—right now—about what failing to do strong reforms costs them. One state retiree, 49 years old, paid, over the course of his entire career, a total of $124,000 towards his retirement pension and health benefits. What will we pay him? $3.3 million in pension payments over his life and nearly $500,000 for health care benefits -- a total of $3.8m on a $120,000 investment. Is that fair? A retired teacher paid $62,000 towards her pension and nothing, yes nothing, for full family medical, dental and vision coverage over her entire career. What will we pay her? $1.4 million in pension benefits and another $215,000 in health care benefit premiums over her lifetime. Is it “fair” for all of us and our children to have to pay for this excess?" http://www.nj.com/news/index.ssf/2010/02/n...weeping_pe.html "Despite a show of force from hundreds of protesting union workers, the state Senate today easily passed legislation that would dramatically change public employee pensions. The changes, which now head to the Assembly, are on a fast track and have already been endorsed by Gov. Chris Christie — who has said he wants even stronger reforms. The three bills each passed in 36-0 votes. “Those chants out there should really be cheers,” Sen. Nicholas Scutari (D-Union) said of the union members in purple and red shirts packing the Statehouse hallways. “We’re acting to save the future checks that these people are going to get. If we don’t take action now, there’s a very real likelihood ... that at some point we’re not going to be able to afford the pensions that they’ve been promised.” Andy Stern was appointed to the deficit reduction panel by Obama???? Really???? Why doesn't he just cut to the chase and change the American flag to the hammer and sickle. The communists are going to get hammered in november. The thought of another three years of Obama is downright scary. The irony is that all of those young people who voted for him are going to be the ones left trying to pay off his four year pig out. BTW, I used to be a democrat! -
I just don't buy that as an excuse. We were counting on players like McCargo, Ellis and Hardy to step it up and show they want to play and compete. I mean, you're playing in the NFL, a supposed life-long dream, and you can't even show the enthusiasm to dig and claw for a starting spot on your team? Slackers and passionless players is what they are to me.
-
I never claimed that I know for sure, that would be a looney tunes statement. I clearly said that it was my opinion based on my observations as a Bills fan. So let's debate, why do you think that it's unfair to say that Ellis and Hardy don't have a love and passion for the game? Do you think they've been trying hard to play on Sundays? I could be completely off base on my assumptions with these two players (since they don't play) but I don't think I am.

What I think will happen in the 1st round...
1billsfan replied to 1billsfan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The Raiders have always been the hardest team to figure out what they'll do with a first round pick... Hey wait, the Bills are kind of like that too... -
It's merely an opinion from the observations of a single Bills fan. I'm not the arbiter of who love's the game or not, but I can have and share the opinion of who I think love's the game or not based on what I've seen as a Bills fan watching them play or not play. Sports radio personalities and callers questions players' fortitude all the time so there's no reason why this can't happen on a message board. Players can turn the love around. I never thought I'd put Kelsay on that "love to play" list, but I think his love got rededicated after an offseason of constant beration by fans.

Edwards left Buffalo and went to the golf course full time the offseason after replacing Losman midseason. That was a huge red flag for a guy so young in the gills. I actually think that Edwards hates football and secretly wishes he were a pro golfer or baseball player. I really hope they get rid of him. Whitner's a poser...all bark, no bite. That's not a guy who has an appetite for NFL football. Mitchell? He was a tossup, probably should have left him off both lists. Lynch is a guy with huge talents who for whatever reason just up and left the reservation. He had the love early on, but is clearly off his game. That's why I question his heart for the game. I did give Maybin a pass, but thought he deserved a mention that all eyes are on him this year to prove he isn't just a cheerleader with pads on.

What I think will happen in the 1st round...
1billsfan replied to 1billsfan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Going forward, I think the new regime wants this team to be bigger on both lines. That's why I think they lean towards Davis. Either way it's becoming clear we'll be getting our LT in the first round. -
It's an big issue with this team jackass. A huge reason why they suck so badly. A couple of years ago, I remember being mocked when I started a thread about my problem with Trent Edwards' obssession with playing golf and questioned why a guy that young wasn't in Buffalo during the offseason working out and watching film. Anybody want to disagree with me now about Trent's lack of love for the game???? FYI, those who can not learn from history... Whitner over Ngata McCargo over Mangold Hardy over anybody Maybin over Orakpo ...are doomed to repeat it over and over and over again.

1. Rams - Bradford QB 2. Lions - Suh DT 3. Bucs - McCoy DT 4. Redskins - Clausen QB 5. Chiefs - Okung OT 6. Seahawks - Berry S 7. Browns - Haden CB 8. Raiders - McClain LB 9. Bills - Davis OT First off, there's no way the Rams pass on a QB at the number one spot. When it comes right down to it, if a team has one of the worst QB situations in the league, they aren't going to pick a DT there no matter how good he may be. Secondly, it's clear to me that the Bills will be picking a LT in the 1st. Lastly, I have a weird feeling the Bills are going to pick Tebow in the second. Yes, he's a longshot at NFL success but the Bills might just be desperate enough to gamble their second round pick on a longshot.

This coming draft there is no more important attribute for a prospective Buffalo pick than whether they love to play the game of football or not. We've seen Brad Butler retire early in his career, we've seen Mike Williams basically retire right after he was drafted, and we've seen players on the current roster with clear signs of not giving a "you know what"... Here's my list of players that I think love to play the game and a list of players that have either proven they don't have the appetite for the NFL or they need to get religion real quick or get lost... Look like they love playing football... Byrd Corner Evans Fitzpatrick Florence Harris Jackson Johnson Kelsay Levitre Lindell McGee McKelvin Moorman Neslon Owens Posluszny Reed Schobel Scott Stroud Williams Wilson Wood Don't look like they love playing football... Brohm (sorry, I know he just got here but his slow development is a red flag about commitment to me) Edwards Chambers Denney Ellis Hardy Lynch (crashed to the ground after such a promising start) Maybin (he does get a rookie mulligan, but still makes the list until proven otherwise) McCargo Mitchell Parrish Whitner This is just my opinion from a far away observer and I'm sure I'm wrong on a few players on both lists. But with the regime change, my hope is that there is a clear objective to only look at players who love the game. Here's to the Buffalo Bills attempt at drafting only those kind of players from this year forward.
-
He has no excuse to not throw at the combine. He's a p__y, and we already have one of those kind of QBs. No thanks. From hence forward he should be know as LeP__y Cat.

Who was your hidden gem that you mentioned here...
1billsfan replied to 1billsfan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I hope so too, there are so many both star and very good players who were either drafted in the later rounds or went undrafted in this league. They generally don't come from the big name colleges. -
I remember starting a thread before the 2006 draft that the Bills should draft Miles Austin in one of their mid to later round draft picks. I don't watch a lot of college football, but I live in NJ and I remember reading up on this guy from Monmouth and was blown away by the video I eventually saw on him. I felt compelled to put the word out. Austin went undrafted and eventually signed with Dallas... Before you say I probably made a hundred of those type of threads, sorry but that was the only one that I can ever remember making. Anyone here have a similar hidden gem story? 2010 hidden gems?

The only reason those fans are interested in McNabb is because he went to Syracuse (which is kind of near Buffalo, so of course that's the reason to trade valuable picks for him). If he came out of Rutgers and had the same "west coast system guy" career with the Eagles, those same people would be laughing at the thought of sending any of the Bills picks for an aging, often injured and fading star like McNabb. We are definitely in the middle of the silly season here.
-
First off, it's not "cool" to use the r word dude. Secondly, McNabb is overrated. In his last five season's McNabb has only averaged 19 TDs per season. He played in a decade where the NFC was a very bad conference. He had one awesome season where they went to the Superbowl and he deserves a ton of credit for that, but that was six long seasons ago. He's not Kurt Warner, he's a very good west coast "system" guy who enjoyed the fruits of having a very good defense, very good coaching, an awesome offensive line and Brian Westbrook to throw to a few thousand times. He's the Danny White of this generation. It would be an asinine move to trade away any high picks for an over the hill and overrated Donovan McNabb.
-
You nailed this! Every day I inexplicably see fans here willing to give up a second round pick and more for an aging QB who, EVEN WHEN HE WAS IN HIS PRIME, ALWAYS FAILED in the big game. But they're none the less willing to give up prime draft picks for him???? If the Bills front office foolishly did this I would be as mad as when they kept Jauron after the '07 and 08' seasons. McNabb is one of the most over-rated QBs in the history of the NFL. He wouldn't even play in over half the games due to being injured behind our suspect line. Donavan McNabb is fools gold. Please Bills, stay away!

Obama took it to a whole new level with his "hope" and "change" mantra. Somehow he convinced Americans to put their faith in someone who was so inexperienced and someone who had so many red flags in his background. Once in office, he tabbed Rohm Emanuel as his chief of staff thus ending any hope of keeping his pledge to change the way Washington does business.

2009 draft, if teams knew then what they know now...
1billsfan replied to 1billsfan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
2009 was the good news, bad news draft for the Bills.
