  1. It's become obvious that Newton and Dareus are probably going 1, 2. That leaves the Bills' dilemma of picking the superstar OLB between Miller or Quinn, or trading out which IMO there's a very slim chance of someone offering a trade. Logic says that they will not pick Peterson or Green at #3, and that Fairley must be off their board. Would they reach for Jordan or Watt? I don't think so, I think they're looking for a player with off the charts measurables and with the video to back it up. So it's between Miller and Quinn. Everyone knows that I'm a Quinn guy, to me he's more special than Miller because a) he has the size to bull rush offensive lineman at the next level, and b) there's just something about this dude that I get the feeling he's going to be an awesome player. Sorry, I just don't get that vibe from Miller. I know Quinn didn't play last year and that the Bills would get yelled at by the experts for passing over Miller to draft him, but I don't care. I'm looking for a "Bruce Smith" level of talent and that's my guy who I think can deliver. Screw the experts.
  2. Because the team sets in motion about a four year development and dedication plan that revolves around that one player. It's not like the other positions where you generally know right away and can either bench or cut him without question.
  3. You really have to appreciate the recent elite NFL QBs like Brady, Manning, Brees and Warner. First you have to have the arm strength and accuracy, then you have to have the ability to read NFL defenses, then you have to have the ability to make quick split second decisions under fire, then you have to have the work ethic to put in the hours upon hours in the film room and the workouts, then you have to have the extreme desire to be a winner. This is why taking a potential franchise QB in the first round is such a gamble. Because it's so rare that a guy has all these attributes. Here's to hoping a guy like Kaepernick is there in the third round (or in the 2nd if the Bills get two after a trade out of #3 overall). I want the guy learning under Fitzpatrick to earn everything he gets without it costing us such a high pick.
  4. Dareus and Fairley scare me off because of how unintelligent they sound.
  5. Man, why is it that these NFL media types just don't know what the heck to do with Blaine Gabbert? Have you ever seen so much indecision over a supposed top QB? In GBN's fan poll, he didn't go off the board till Washington at pick 10. My guess is that Gabbert goes to San Francisco. Harbaugh's recent praise of Alex Smith is classic smokescreen stuff. I think Harbaugh loves Gabbert and he's doing his best to not show it.
  6. You've got to believe that draft talk of potential 1st round players between NFL reps and NFL media is like "Survivor" on steroids. In a game worth billions which is on this kind of grand scale and magnitude, it literally makes zero sense to talk up a player that you like or talk down a player you don't like. Someone should write a book on this subject because it would be highly entertaining. The guy saying that he wouldn't take Quinn till the 3rd round absolutely loves him beyond belief and his team is probably sitting just outside the top 10 picks. He thinks this comment could get into the echo chamber of NFL draft talk and which could potentially lead Quinn to dropping a couple of spots to their pick. Third round? Biggest draft BS I've ever heard. Does this guy look and sound like a 3rd rounder?... http://www.panthers.com/news/article-2/Quinn-vows-to-bounce-back-again/8cfd33ff-6307-48ad-b6cc-52b6219181f3 I also think that a lot of teams love Cam Newton. There has been just too much bad mouthing of this guy by anonymous NFL sources for that not to be the case.
  7. Oh please! The Steelers, Pats AND Ravens would most definitely take Robert Quinn over Von Miller. Because these teams would make the intelligent move in taking the player 20 pounds heavier who owns the same speed and agility talents as Miller but also possesses the brute strength to bull rush a double team of the OG and OT and take them both on a ride to the QB. If the Bills don't take Quinn, plan on seeing him in a Pats or Ravens uniform with the move up to get him being the talk of round 1. I could see Quinn as a Pat tormenting the Bills for the next 15 years, while Miller fizzles and Bills fans like you are left wondering why you bought into he was the next Clay Matthews even though he looks and plays like a safety.
  8. I have serious concerns about Miller's size. That's fair, right? If the Bills do take Miller then I'll be happy in knowing we got a very highly rated, thoroughly vetted player in a position of need. Ok? At least we'll know right away if he's the real deal or not. I like that factor a lot! He's a senior, he's already being treated like a veteran. There shouldn't be any excuses made for Miller in his first year. If Patrick Willis can do it right away, so to can Miller.
  9. "The following quotes are from NFL scouts, coaches and front-office personnel, speaking on the condition of anonymity." Or in other words, don't believe anything you read in this article. Seriously, what would be the purpose of team reps talking up and throwing praise on players that they love and hope to draft? I will believe nothing said from team reps, especially anonymous ones.
  10. Could you imagine the giddiness of this board if the Panthers pass on Newton, the Bills find a trading parter to a team who wants Newton (thinking Bengals will draft him) and the Bills end up with Watt, Rudolph and Reed in the first two rounds? It is plausible.
  11. That comment is for all the guys here who's saturdays in the fall are filled with doing chores or going out somewhere and who do not have the time to blow off two weekend days during football season. That comment probably is representative of the majority of guys here. Just like we didn't know who Gabbert was before the draft guys started making their lists. I get the feeling that there's not a lot of guys here who watch a lot of college football on a regular basis. BTW, I created the first Von Miller post here...LOL I heard his name mentioned on a sports radio show when Miller was still only considered a second half of the first round draft pick due to his size. The draft analyst absolutely raved about him so I asked if anyone here knew of him and how good he was and if he worthy of the #3 pick. If they draft him I will be disappointed feeling that the Bills wimped out with the solid but wimpy sized player, but I won't be crazy mad about it. Let's stop with this pretend world where we all have first hand knowledge of everyone we're considering. It's stupid, we don't. And if you're someone that does, you're definitely not married or have a girlfriend.
  12. Frankly, I think the Bills need to be brave at #3 and go with the "riskier" "high reward" pick in either Quinn or Fairley. No one here knew who Von miller was after that championship game. Imagine if fans then had said the Bills should pick Von Miller over Nick Fairley the next day? They'd first say "Von who?,"then they'd say "You mean Nick Fairley is still on the board and we're not going to take him???????"...LOL I think that Miller will be a good pro, but he's the "safe" pick. I just don't see him being a Clay Matthews clone (who people compare him to). Matthews plays like he's 260, Miller plays like he's 230. I also worry about a rail like Miller keeping weight on during the season, especially if it goes to 18 games. By now we've all solidified who our favorites are and there's nobody that can change ours minds any longer. We can all agree on that!...LOL
  13. Again, it was his sophmore year and he didn't play in his junior year. He dominated his sophmore year though, Miller didn't. Do you really want to bring up the guy who's size and game remind us of Miller?
  14. This argument was started when you excerpted King's flawed Quinn stat put down. It's not about Quinn's truncated college career. All these guys have their things you can pick on. It just so happens that Miller is the current man-love object of the NFL "experts". I think this little dig on Quinn means that his stock is on the rise.
  15. I was annoyed that King adds this caveat to downgrade his stats in his piece, but fails to add the other important one.
  16. Talk about irrelevant, we're projecting two unknown players. Not the very well known NFL star player Clay Matthews. This belittling of Quinn's sophmore stats is ridiculous considering Miller didn't do anything his sophmore year. We're trying to project who the great player will be, and by doing so you need to take into account that this was his sophmore year, not senior.
  17. He was a sophmore. What was Von Miller's sophmore sack total? 3.5
  18. The Ravens are sitting at #26. It's not as if they are smoke screening so a team would draft Quinn ahead of them moving back the player they really want. The mere fact that they had him in tells us that they are contemplating it. If they weren't, then that would be a colossal waste of time. The Ravens shouldn't be striking you as a team that wastes time during draft season.
  19. What would be extremely foolish would be to spend a high pick on an undersized one move rush OLB like Maybin. BTW, Quinn has only been away for one year not two. When a team like the Ravens contemplates mortgaging an entire draft, that tells you the risk of that player is minimal at best. There's nothing non-risky about doing something like that.
  20. If the Ravens think he's that good, the Bills wouldn't exactly be "taking a chance". Also, if Miller is so good and is such a can't miss prospect, wouldn't teams to be trying to trade up to the Broncos pick to get ahead of the Bills who everyone has as the team taking Miller? If you don't see any rumors of such heading into the draft, that should tell you he's not this overwhelming can't miss guy that all the experts project.
  21. A lot of rumors that the Broncos want to trade back into the end of the first round for Ponder. Google Broncos and Ponder to read them all. Odds are that some team is going to do this to make sure they get him. My thought is this...what are the chances that Ponder has that much of a better upside than what we have in Fitzpatrick right now? I think the best of Ponder is Fitzpatrick's 2010 season. So I don't see a point in the Bills drafting anyone but Newton or a guy that has decent potential in the 4th or beyond.
  22. http://www.gbnreport.com/onsitevisits.html This is the most intriguing visit of them all. The Ravens are perhaps the best (along with the Steelers) at drafting. Best case scenario for the Ravens to trade up for Quinn is that he's still on the board at the Redskins #10 pick. How much would the price be for the Ravens to move up from #26 to #10? If they gave them their picks in all seven rounds (26th slot, not sure what additional picks they have) it still would not hit the 1300 points given to the #10th overall pick. But of course the Redskins would probably end up accepting picks in rounds 1-4 since they don't have many to begin with. A poll of Ravens fans had 54% of them wanting them to do it. Why do I bring this up? It tells me that the Ravens think that Quinn is potentially a special enough of player that he's worth mortgaging an entire draft for. Also, to my knowledge, the Ravens are rarely involved in trades. (A side note, the Patriots have much more ammo to make that kind of a move for Quinn and I've read a lot about Pats fans and media wanting them to do it. I think the Pats are laying in the weeds to cash in these chips they've collected if Quinn is there at #10 or even a couple spots sooner) If the Bills don't take Quinn, plan on seeing a major move up by either the Ravens or Patriots to take Quinn. I still think Quinn is going to be the much bigger impact player than Miller will be. I'm just providing some anecdotal evidence to this. The Ravens draft machine is no joke.
  23. FYI, the Bills just had Christian Ballard in for a visit... http://www.draftcountdown.com/ScoutingReports/DT/Christian-Ballard.php That makes me think it will be either Miller or Quinn in the first, then they go DE/DT type player in the second. Wllkerson, Heyward, Austin, Ballard, one of these guys should be there at our second pick and the Bills will have the beginnings of a respectable front 7 for the first time in a long time.
  24. When you're passing over guys with freakish, superman-like abilities like Peterson, Green, Quinn, Fairley, Miller to select Jordan, you're playing with fire. Jordan simply doesn't possess #3 overall abilities. The Bills seriously need to hit a home run with this pick (or at least attempt to hit one). Even if it's Von Miller, they're getting a guy with freakish talents who could in fact end up being a home run (I don't think so, but he does possess that kind of ceiling). The Bills need to find their Superman in this draft with that first pick. Either that or trade down for a boatload of picks (then they can look at Jordan). But picking Jordan at #3 is a sure fire way for this franchise to ensure stagnation. You can't be afraid of attempting to be great. If they pick Fairley and he's a bust, so be it. IMO, at least they tried to find a great one.
  25. Whoever we take as the OLB will be rushing the passer 90% of the time, not covering a TE. That's the job for the SS, which unfortunately we still have yet to find one who can do that. But first things first, we need a big and talented defensive player at that #3 spot...Quinn, Fairley, Dareus. Miller's talented, but not big, so he's off the board of a team that needs to get much bigger than they are now.
