Why Stephen Hill WILL be the pick at number 10.
1billsfan replied to mob16151's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It seems the less holes this team has to fill, the more Buddy will have to "modify" his rules to get the guy he wants while still fitting the BPA mold. Very interesting trying to predict this pick. -
By most accounts that I've read... Riley Reiff = Brian Bulaga Both RTs and neither worthy of a #10 overall pick.

The problem is that according to the "Buddy" rules, there's no one that will be at #10 that he could draft. He's going to have to backtrack on his rules no matter who they take... ILB or OG? Those aren't top 10 draftable positions in 1st rd. Martin or Reiff? One isn't strong and the other is a RT. Floyd? Bad character guy, again that's not Buddy. Poe, Cox, Brockers? No way he drafts the same position in consecutive 1st rounds. Ingram or Upshaw? He just gave a ton of money to the DE position. Kirkpatrick? Buddy probably sees him as a safety. 4.5 is too slow for Buddy at CB. -

Perhaps, but there is a connection and the Bills are sitting in no mans land at #10. They probably won't have a blue chip player (other than Kuechly ILB or DeCastro OG who play positions that are not thought of as high first rd positions) to pick at that spot and the other potential prospects are all over the place. Hill's playing at GT and the Chan connection could very well be the deciding factor. If you look at his pro day you will see Buddy Nix and Lovie Smith in almost every frame in the background. I think he's a serious contender even if they don't trade down. -

I'm sure they would have loved to get Thomas or Morgan, but Spiller was rated the much higher prospect. Every draft is obviously different and who knows what players are listed in Buddy's top ten. Do I think that Hill could be on that list? Yes I do. Hill is a legit tall 6'4" receiver and they clearly will be PROJECTING greatness if he's the pick. Prototype size, speed, good character. Nix is going with "prototype" players on this team. It seems like they are using the Giants' blueprint to building a championship quality team. If you aren't the prototype for the position you will not get drafted. -

It's only a gamble based on projected NFL team "big boards" on the internet. Buddy and Chan have serious ties to Georgia Tech and they very well could have Stephen Hill as the top player still on their board when the draft reaches pick #10. These draft "big boards" are like echo chambers. NationalFootballPost is the only one that seems to not follow the leader like all the rest. It's strange how a guy like Dontari Poe starts hitting the top 10 based on his combine results even though he has a lack of college production, yet Hill scorches both his combine and pro day's and there nary a flicker on these boards and they say it's because of his lack of college production. If they draft Hill you won't hear anything about him being a gamble, Buddy will be saying that he's going to be a star receiver and he's someone who should have been in the top five player's picked. They want to give Fitzpatrick a BIG and FAST target. That's Hill. He just might be the guy they pick. -

As I said in another thread, Buddy Nix was front and center at Stephen Hill's pro day and Chan has obvious connections to GT that gives them an almost lock solid evaluation on this guy. The people talking up Floyd might as while forget him ever being picked by the Bills. Hill has no character concerns that I've heard about. He seems like the player Lee Evans would be if he were 6'4". WR is clearly the Bills #1 need and if Buddy feels that Hill is a top 10 talent then he will no doubt be the pick at #10 baring someone huge dropping like Claiborne. -
The New York Jets have officially become the Tim Tebow Jets. The resentment from the attention Tebow will get will tear this team apart leading to Rex, Tannenbaum, Tebow and Sanchez to all be gone by the 2014 season. If the 2012 season goes bad enough it could happen after this season. This one attention-grabbing move has set that franchise back years.

I know there are a lot of people here who are talking up the Bills taking Floyd, but I'm almost certain that Buddy Nix would pick Stephen Hill over Floyd even at #10. Hill had a great combine, a great pro day where Buddy was front and center in every frame, he's got Chan's serious Georgia Tech connections to understand why there was such low production there. It would be risky due to the blowback from the critical media and fans calling it a "reach", but Hill has scary numbers and measurables and looks to be the perfect number 2 receiver compliment to SJ.

Bills could realistically get Kalil

How does it feel to be the Paul Blart of TSW? -
Drafting for need is the sure-fire way to get yourself in trouble. Would I take Kalil over Kuechly, of course. Would I take Jonathan Martin or Riley Reiff of Kuechly? Not a chance. While Martin and Reiff may end up being decent players, I think Kuechly's going to be an NFL star. If the Bills pass on him over either of these two then they'll be kicking themselves for a long time. Player rating's wise, he's a much better prospect than either of those two LTs. He may even be the one player who can cover NE's Gronk. How valuable would a player like THAT be?

You're acting like an arrogant you know what. The Vikings are going to send out a bunch of messages out there for the simple reason that could get a team to trade up for the #3 pick. However, logic says no one will give the Vikings an extra high pick for the opportunity to draft a player named Luck or RGIII. So they're probably staying at the pick and there are more than a few reasons to think that they would choose Claiborne over Kalil. http://blog.vikings.com/2012/03/21/claiborne-over-kalil-talk-heats-up-around-vikings/ I did give you the facts earlier in this thread. Is the concept of the Vikings picking Claiborne (the better player btw) really that hard to understand? -
http://www.nesn.com/2012/03/luke-kuechly-dazzles-dozens-of-nfl-scouts-at-boston-colleges-pro-day.html "But now the pre-draft process could get a whole lot more chaotic, as he'll visit the Panthers on Thursday and then begin a run of meetings with teams that are interested in his services." Hmm, first time I've seen him on the Panthers radar. I still think they pick a DT.

TEBOW!!! is a Jet! (finally)

The super-sized attention on Tebow will foster serious resentment from the other 52 players and it will end ugly. This is Flutiemania x 100. NY Post, NY Daily News. Holy cow is this going to be fun to watch. As TO once said, get your popcorn ready...lol There's ever reason to believe that this will set the Jets franchise back many years. -
Is M. Floyd better than Alshon Jeffery......
1billsfan replied to roccitybillsfan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It obviously was more than just drinking, and it was more than just one incident. Hey, don't shoot the messenger. He's obviously very talented, it's the off the field stuff that would scare me away from picking him at #10. Does anyone know where the blood came from? Was it his or someone else's? -

As you must know, Floyd has had a couple (more?) of serious alcohol related issues. A story from a year ago today... http://collegefootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2011/03/21/star-irish-wr-michael-floyd-arrested-for-dui/ "WNDU-TV in South Bend is reporting that Floyd was arrested early Sunday morning for driving under the influence. " "This is Floyd’s second alcohol-related arrest in a little over a year; in January of 2010, Floyd was arrested for underage consumption of alcohol after admitting to police that he had done “a couple shots” earlier in the night. He was found with blood on his hands, feet, and shirt." This is before the "big time" NFL money has kicked in. I know that he says he's going to stay on the straight and narrow from now on, but that is really hard to believe given his party boy past. The NFL fame and money would seem to only heighten the desire to get wild and crazy. I think the Bills will steer clear of Floyd given this history. That doesn't mean he won't be a great player and citizen, but that #10 overall pick is much too valuable to use on such a risky personality. -

Hey pal, didn't you get the memo!? We're not allowed to talk trade possibilities here at TSW. Also...what Buddy says is gospel, the Vikings clearly are blowing smoke, and while we're at it, this guy is an idiot too... http://www.nationalfootballpost.com/Mock-Draft-50-7915.html -

While he may not become a pro bowl "franchise" LT, it does seem likely that he'd at least be a very solid starter at one of the most important positions on an NFL team. I don't like where the Bills are positioned in this draft at all. Other than Melvin Ingram, I honestly don't see a player I'd like to take at #10 if the draft falls the way everyone expects it to. So if Kalil started to fall a few spots, I'd wouldn't mind the Bills making the move if the price were right. -

1billsfan replied to 1billsfan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Wouldn't it be logical to trade up for a LT is he fell if it were for the right price? If he would have traded up for RGIII, then it stands to reason that he'd trade up for another player they coveted. The NFL draft is a very fluid thing. There are no "we'd never do this" in a draft no matter what the GM says. If fans don't want to read discussions on potential draft trades then either find something else to do or just move on to another thread. -

Fact: Griffin just went to the Redskins. Fact: Winfield is 34 years old. Fact: Cook is following Chris Brown's guide to dating women. Fact: The Vikings have a huge need at CB. It's a shame watching a couple of Bills fans acting like such morons. If you two are so offended when a Buffalo Bills fan lets other Buffalo Bills fans know on a Buffalo Bills team message board that Kalil might fall enough for the Bills to trade up for a 3rd or perhaps more, maybe it's time to hang it up here. At the very least, you two should stop embarrassing yourselves by showing such contempt for draft discussion on an NFL team message board. Buddy Nix would have traded up for RGIII at the right price and depending on where Kalil fell, he would do the same for a LT prospect of his stature. If you don't believe that then both of you are beyond stupid. -

If the Vikings pick Claiborne, and that's who Tampa wanted, and Tampa's second guy is Richardson...then perhaps the Bills could move up five spots for their 3rd and Tampa still could get Richardson. Maybe the Bills add in one of their fourths or fifths. That is totally within the realm of possibilities. Anyone remember Tim Tebow lighting up that secondary? There was no way the Bills were moving from their #3 pick and I don't see the Vikings doing that either and risk losing out on either Claiborne or Kalil. I'm not referring to you of course, but I don't get the nastiness. We're all Bills fans and things are looking up. Thanks for being respectful, it's too bad everyone isn't that way. -

Do you find it hard to not be a jerk? I think both you and the site are wrongly reading into that comment. The Vikings could be simply letting their fan base know that they may not take Kalil after all. They want their fans excited about whichever elite player they will take, be it Claiborne or Kalil. No one is giving a boat load of picks for any player not named Luck or RGIII. -

Sorry, I don't get the smokescreen aspect. Luck and RGIII are going #1, #2. Minny picks #3. A smokescreen is when a team tries to fool another team to jump ahead to take the player they were talking up, therefore pushing the player they really want towards them. -
If Minny takes Claiborne and Kalil falls to #5, the Bills could realistically trade up ahead of the Rams for Kalil... http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2012/03/20/vikings-hint-they-prefer-morris-claiborne-to-matt-kalil/ http://www.gbnreport.com/2012projection.html
