  1. Ya fans never want to believe it when their opponents shoot poorly (Cuse fans are as guilty as anyone) but 3pt% defense is basically random (2pt% D is not). http://kenpom.com/blog/index.php/weblog/entry/the_boeheim_exception UNC did not make a 41% 3pt team shoot 20% - if that's a skill they're a favorite to win the national title. They also seem to have an odd fascination with long 2pt jumpers. Playing some nice ball though for sure.
  2. And you have the same carrier? Something to do w/ settings? That's weird. I've heard nothing but good things about it; although it is just about a year old already. I'd probably go with a Nexus5, MotoX, or LG2 if I had to get a phone now.
  3. Haha, I think this is what bothers me. There's supposed to be more parity in the pro's. Yet we can never ever ever beat the f***ing Patriots. 2014 hasn't even started yet and the Bills are already 0-2. I know nobody in NE cares about BC but it's just, extremely annoying that 'Cuse can't be the Pats to BC's Bills. Dominated Maui is a stretch. They were all tough games and Cal & Minnesota were each missing key bigs (more important than BMK to us, probably like a Rak equivalent). Duke is absolutely the #1 in the East if they beat us twice - that's what last night cost us. Unless we win 2 of 3 on this road trip (unlikely imo) we'll be on a collision course w/ them in the ACCT semi's. Then again as God awful as we've played in some of these home games (St Francis, Miami, ND, NC St, BC) maybe it doesn't matter that much where this team plays. I really want to avoid facing a Louisville or Iowa in the Sweet 16 - they're just as likely to be 4's as 3's I think..
  4. I'm in much more meltdown mode than you guys. It's one thing to struggle vs an NIT team but BC is not that - they really are a horrific basketball team. I mean they're seriously the equivalent of a 16 seed. Maybe we're better off with a 2seed. I love JB but we do have our share of unprecedented embarrassments; that's just a fact unfortunately.
  5. BC is baaaad. Last place ACC doesn't even do them justice. If there was an all New England conference they'd be behind the following teams (just going by kenpom ratings): Umass, Harvord, Providence, Boston U, Quinnipiac, Holy Cross, Yale, Brown. If we can't run them out of the gym we got issues.
  6. Ya the refs definitely helped us in this one. Got some touch fouls on a lot of high leverage possessions. I don't know what to say about a game where CJ is airballing his $ 15foot baseline shot, wtf. Rak carrying 'em was definitely a look like the Cooney/ND game - the other home "letdown game". That might not bode well for the game @Maryland. Although if we're coming off a win, that'll be a nice problem to have. It's gonna be real fashionable for talking heads to call us semi-frauds in the next week, so get used to it. But this was one bad game - going down to the wire @Pitt is nothing to be ashamed of. Now if we can't run BC off the floor, that'll be some serious cause for concern.
  7. Ya, I mean, there's a reason home court matters more in ncaab than anything else: officiating. Everyone should have that figured out by now. Ive seen enough to never really expect a fair shake on the road. I did think a few plays in this game were a bit on the extreme side of home cooking...like what exactly Grant was supposed to do to get a call I'm not sure; perhaps a German suplex from Cam Chancellor.
  8. I don't really want to think about a lineup w/ Rak on the bench if Keita can't go. Grant needs to man the 5 under all those scenarios. Sure he can probably handle it 'cause he's a freak and there's no Patrick Ewing nowadays, but it exposes him to too much potential foul trouble, which we obviously can't afford. Also, Clemson's bigs are terrible.
  9. I like this one a lot. I probably watched the '90 yearbook 75 times because my dad bought it on VHS. I can hear Harry Kalas saying "with the league's best combo of foot speed and body control..." as he's dashing thru the snow. WTF?
  10. Ya, that's the most anticipated game on the 2014 schedule for sure. Although everyone is going to watch Week 1 anyway...feels like kind of a waste.
  11. This. The Giants defense was worse than the Pats in '07. Just as the Ravens was worse than the 9ers last year. If you're looking @ the two Eli teams as a blue print for anything you might as well say mediocrity on both sides of the ball wins championships (the 2011 Giants had a negative pt differential). That's the great thing about the "Defense" side of this argument though. It's impossible to lose because the winning defense invariably gives up fewer points than their opponent in the last game. Even if said defense sucked all year & played well for a couple games like the '06 Colts (Denver this yr almost pulled that off too). Not surprisingly if the exact opposite happens (the defense is good all year & manages to win a shootout in the SB - like the '04 Patriots) well then heck, they still get to say "defense wins championships". Super. How convenient. You can see why it's impossible to argue with "defense wins championships" guy. It's not because they're right.
  12. The thing is I don't even find it interesting in that format. "See I'm putting X ahead of Y because rangz!". How is that interesting? Anyone can count rings. I like Aikman more than most, but the guy who said he's on a higher tier than Manning/Elway/Marino...seriously?
  13. The crowd didn't help matters - sounded dead from the opening tip. Good thing it was home anyway; could've easily been a loss on the road.
  14. No way. Virginia's schedule is cake. We need all the cushion we can get to win the regular season outright. Not that the reg. season title matters that much for seeding, because our non-conf. resume is so much better than UVA's, but it'd be a nice feather in the cap.
  15. Ya obviously a high pressure team that shoots a zillion 3's is going to foul more than a zone team that shoots four 3's... I do think this is the most likeable Duke team I've ever seen as they don't have their usual cast of annoying floppers & it is awfully funny in a way to see them get outraged by a dose of their own medicine they've been dishing out for years... I'm not sure the 2nd foul drawn by Christmas really even helped us all that much...we're putting a 69% FT shooter on the line & giving them the ball back with a chance to win it. Given that we were basically scoring at will I think I'd rather just play out the possession and see what happens (good chance of getting 2pts instead of 1 or better yet a miss + offensive rebound with the shot clock turned off).
  16. Great game, can't sleep. Some thoughts before I watch it for the 2nd of what will probably be ten times: - We are good. All our best players stepped up, which was great. Fair/Grant...wow. - Some Negative Nancy stuff: I can't necessarily argue w/ anyone saying they like Duke a bit more going forward, would've won this on a neutral floor, etc. Lets face it, we got some homecourt calls, which of course happens in ncaab all the time. And while it seemed like Duke shot 70% from 3, they actually shot their season average of 41%. I thought a big reason L'ville gave us a lot more problems last year than they did the year before was because Dieng last year could make that FT line jumper where as the year before he could not. So I have no idea how Duke was getting such good looks considering Jefferson & Plumlee were not threats to do anything from the high post and were (rightfully) not being guarded. I expect/hope Boeheim to fix this and hopefully guard the permiter better next time. - Glass Half Full: In 2005, UNC was on the verge of getting swept by Duke, down by 8 with 3min's left at home on Senior Day. They went on to win it all. Or perhaps a better analogy for Cuse fans might be '03 vs Pittsburgh which we barely salvaged a split. Duke might just be a bad matchup for us, so who cares if they win the rematch. Plus we were better than them in 2010 and look what happened. Just gotta take care of business in the "easy" games & get a win out of the Pitt/UVA/FSU/Duke gauntlet & we should be set up for a friendly NYS path to the F4.
  17. Haha. Ya he was super lucky Alex Smith saved his bacon after getting destroyed by the Saints too. Not my style to start these kinds of threads personally, but it is odd to me that so many can't wait to rush to his rescue. Supposedly it's just haters being bitter but I mean, nobody was ripping Pat Williams & Winfield in Minnesota because they were ya know, good. And they talked less (well maybe not Pat).
  18. Well here you go: http://mmqb.si.com/2014/01/20/seattle-seahawks-nfc-championship-game-fourth-down-touchdown/
  19. Ya if you go back & read the "is he in decline?" thread, the "anti-Brady" comments are mostly that he's still very good, maybe even still great, but definitely in decline. It's not an opinion exclusive to Bills fans who are just haters. Advanced stats back that up and not just from this year. He's just a dink & dunk qb now - a really good one but dink&dunk nevertheless. Checkdown Tommy imo. Missed a wide open Edelman downfield by what 8 yards? Granted he doesn't have his all-world TE who gets hurt every year & has to settle for an elite OL, tough break.
  20. What's so hard to understand? Known poor sportsman and bad guy John Fox wanted Talib out of the game. So he instructed his biggest baddest WR who happens to be 1 concussion away from ending his career (all 5'9" 185LBs of him) to take him out. Seems reasonable.
  21. Meh, we'll see what they can do against a softer D in a couple weeks. Seattle's offense was overmatched all over the field yesterday - both in the trenches, and on the perimeter. For all the talk about poor Brady not having his all-world TE's, Wilson's weapons aren't really much better. The guy made two huge throws a lot farther than 12 yards downfield when they were down 10-0 & 17-13 to guys named Baldwin & Kearse. The biggest weakness I saw was his pocket presence. Too much spinning & running backwards when he could've been stepping up in the pocket. Maybe height plays a role in that, I don't know.
  22. Oh I didn't realize it was a closely contested real life championship game. Nevermind then.
  23. It's very easy to do if you don't count the 4th down conversions that work. And you're right Marv never went for it. I guess you missed all 8 million replays of the Oilers game.
  24. For the love of God, take 5 minutes to study Game Theory. Factoring in field position off a failed 4th down it's not even close. This country is full of brainwashed Phil Simms decipals. Interesting how there was zero criticism of the 4th down TD pass. I know don't tell me, you all liked that call.
  25. Did anyone really think that was roughing before Pereira chimed in?
