And people actually wanted us to sign that fool

It doesnt really need saying but what makes our D go is the dominance of our D line......it makes up for a lot of weaknesses in other areas (not that there is much)
I am not gonna bash Kiko.....he is was a playmaker...he is going to be a playmaker for the Eagles.
I just think that Rex knows how to make it all work......between his understanding of run stop (something Pettine didnt understand) and his mix of exotic blitz (which schwartz seldom used) this D has a chance to be special because it is a perfect blend of coaching AND great talent at all the positions TO INCLUDE DEPTH
THat is why I dont want to see D players at 50.....we need to get this offense moving.

interesting thing was that the knock on Brown coming out of college was that he couldn't cover, but did a great job in coverage last year. I think the Bills go OL in round 1, and get another "Brown" type player who they feel has fallen in the draft in Rd. 2 or 3.
I could live with that (I assume u mean round 2)
Hopefully OL draft picks from last year step up.....but we need to keep drafting them till this OL shows the ability to move people around even when the opposing defense is game planning against it.

I am a big fan of Randal Johnson....that guy is a freak......
I think they found a late gem there
-
I disagree with this. I really don't think QB play is going to W or L us games. There are only like 5 QBs who can single handedly win you a guy. Our QB play was pretty bad most of last year and we won 8 games. Any of us could have played QB in the GB game and the Bills still would have won.
The ceiling of the season could get much higher though if one of the QB really steps up though.
In my opinion....this bills team have been created in a version so as to NOT have the QB determine the outcome
-
Not advocating the article, but..
If Pats* needed a win in season finale, Brady would have played the entire 2nd half and we didn't score. If Sammy doesn't make that sensational behind his head catch, Carpenter doesn't have the opportunity to beat Detroit with a last second FG and 4th & 22 vs Minnesota?? To say nothing of Hogan and Sammy consecutive catches to the end the game?? 6-10, is probably closer to what we were than a late season playoff hopeful.
This schedule is tough. Everyone's schedule is. If we're 0-2 at home to start the season -a very likely outcome, it's a helluva uphill battle going forward. Sure, we've added some impressive offensive skills, but we have an entirely new coaching staff and philosophy that will take a lot of time to truely gel and no starter at QB -who will absolutely need to make plays from early on.
IMO, equalling last years' overall record and still not making the playoffs will be improvement.
So because guys actually made plays to win games we should discount them from our record?
There were games that we SHOULD have won last year but did not......should we include them in our record?
In the end.....your record is what it is. And our record was 9-7
This fan base is just so beat down....its disgusting

I am totally ok with this...lets stay the underdog here
-
Yeah, anything past 4-6 years for a second round pick is gravy, which is why I think Whaley was willing to roll the dice on him.
Kujo would have to be performing at a very high level to get a third contract as there are always younger, hungrier, cheaper guys looking to take the job...
Lets just see if the guy can actually get on the field first......
-
Islanders also grow up with each other, John. They live in the same area for years. Kujo did not. If I knew more, it would be clearer to me.
Not in this case.......the islanders I know were pretty scattered out but still maintained contact......even though they were in other countries.
I cant explain it because I am pretty much a loner myself......but I have seen it from others.
It actually felt pretty good to be a part of their "family"

You think EJ played worse in his second season?
Dork....the eye test does tell me that EJ didnt play well in his second season.......
I thought he was putting that ball in possible interception situations much more......but I also thought he was much better with his sideline and anticipation passes.
Personally....I thought Marrone panicked and pulled EJ too early.....after I went back on NFL rewind and watched the games I am in FIRM belief of that.
-
Ceiling is in the eye of the beholder. Some say Alex Smith, some say Colin Kaep, some say Joe Flacco.
If Bortles goes out there and plays worse his second year, and plays worse than Chad Henne, and you're in a position to make a playoff run, you play Henne.
Fair enough.....I have always been under the philosphy that the best QB should play (or the qb that is playing better.....whichever way u look at it)
-
That's true, which is why I'm asking.
I will say this
I dont know Kujo's family dynamic.....I am however very close to a family of Islanders (they produce a TON of athletes....I got to know them years back when my son started training for football with them....and the relationship kind of went from there.......they are a VERY close nit group no matter how far away they are from each other.
It wouldnt suprise me at all if members of the islander family i know would be affected in a situation like Kujo's. Really fine people too. They literally would die for each other.
-
What does Bortles regressing his second year have to do with a comparison made today?
Reason being you have to give QBs time to see where their ceiling actually is.
If Bortles regresses in his second year (and he lets face it........he is doomed with some of these coaches that the jags have brought in)
Then what?
-
He can. But if he moved here at 4, how close could he really be to them? It's not like he's seeing grandma every month.
Chan come on man
Not everybody's family dynamic is the same.
-
A lot of it is about playing when the bullets are flying, but not all of it. EJ had an entire offseason to learn from his mistakes, build up chemistry, and to practice reading some of the defenses that he saw in between his 10th and 11th start. Bortles did not. It's about making progress your second year. Unfair comparison.
What if Bortles regresses in his 2nd year?
I look at EJ as just another QB prospect in camp. No more, no less, and his original draft position is of no consequence anymore. We have 3 equal competitors for the starting position, maybe 4 if we draft a QB with our 2nd or 3rd rd pick. If during camp EJ is more impressive than the others ride him. If he's less, trade him while he still has some value. I am not interested in nurturing any of the QBs currently on the roster. Keep the top two performers, trade/cut the 3rd, and if we have a rookie keep him in clipboard cocoon for a year.
Which brings us to the 3rd QB. Of the 3 on the roster, the only one with any market value is EJ. Cassel is the only vet with lengthy NFL experience, so provided he's healthy it's hard to see him being cut. That means a roster spot is on the line between EJ and Tyrod. Winner take all. If both are performing at an equal level you trade EJ since he has more market value.
That's just the cold, hard, objective reality folks. I know some on this board might not like to hear it, but that's life.
Does anyone really think EJ Manuel has ANY trade value at the moment?
I am not going to lie Tyrod Taylor intrigues me
If for no other reason then I actually have not gotten a chance to watch him play and I know Rex is gonna give him a legit chance to show what he has got
I keep going back to this.....he hung around as the backup QB to the ravens for years.......they had a good QB in Flacco.......during that time
- No other QB beat him out as the backup
- Flacco could have gone down for the season at any given time and Taylor would have been the QB of that team......the ravens thought ENOUGH of Tyrod to put him in that position
-
You said I have never seen Fitz throw a mechanically sound pass. I confirmed that as ridculous.
You said EJ has very good mechanics, yet he has (to his credit) sought out many current and former QBs and QB coaching "guru" specialists to...fix his mechanics. Last spring it was with a guy named Calhoun who said he had to improve his throwing motion, his footwork, understanding how the ball comes out of his hand, how he holds the ball---pretty much everything. This guy then predicted EJ could be a Pro Bowl QB in 2014.......and after that didn't happen, it was on to DeBerg and then Lee and then.......
Its not that EJ didnt show good mechanics.....it is that they dont remain consistant......
Which of course...means he does not have good mechanics.....or at least has not shown it yet.

I dated one of these types in High School.....
Told her straight out that I didnt want her making me feel bad about wanting to see her naked
That didnt go to well....
-
They might be putting it out there that they might take a QB.....but I doubt it
Taking a QB high would do nothing more then be another of the same type of attempt with EJ Manuel........
If they want to take a project late....fine....but their will be legit starting talent in that 2nd and 3rd round
-
It's mainly by referral and Bentley doesn't accept everybody
That is interesting I didnt know that
-
There are numerous examples over the years of quarterbacks improving their accuracy and ability over time after they get experience if they have basic good mechanics. Brady is the best example. There are no examples to my knowledge of quarterbacks with crappy mechanics becoming great, or even improving them much. That is why they stay a few levels below the good QBs.
How you or anyone can say those two things are just as bad baffles me.
By the way, I'm not at all predicting EJ will become good. Earlier in this very thread I said it's less than 50-50. But it's possible. Because he basically has good mechanics and if the game slows down for him, he MAY NOT fukk up so much.
Never mind.....Kelly did say that EJ has good mechanics WEO.......im honest when I know im wrong
I will say this....i dont consider inconsistant mechanics to be GOOD mechanics.
I guess its all a matter of perception......I have always said that what I feel EJ needs in consistancy in what he does
-
Absolutely. I wouldn't be surprised to see him take a step this year, I just hope it's a big one because he struggled in camp last year.
Oh no doubt....needs to be a HUGE STEP
-
Here, for example, is a very accurate draft profile from Yahoo Sports which points out his strengths as well as weaknesses and what he does and doesn't do well. which is exactly what has happened to him so far.
This is a good find Kelly
If Roman can make it work with Colin then he should be able to make it work with EJ
-
Agreed. It's a great point to keep in mind, he's young. Last year couldn't have been easy. I imagine the loner label will be easy enough to shed with the way Rex runs things.
It sure would be nice if Kujo does actually turn it around and become a viable NFL player
Opens up all kinds of possibilities on the OL

Weird that a 20 year old, in a new city with guys older, more proven and some much richer and a hard ass coach might retreat a bit with family and professional troubles. SHOCKING that not everyone reacts the same.
The thing is if it truly is a mental block and not a physical one.....you might see the greatest turnaround in Kujo of all time....
Might be the perfect storm for him

KC and Houston are both games that you could say we should have won.....had we just made a couple more offensive plays in those games they are wins.....
What I am saying is just as correct as you talking about how if a player DIDNT make a play we DONT win
See what I did there?
We need to make a couple more plays here and there and we are in the playoffs.......we made enough plays that we would have been picking 19th this year........
And this team brought in proven talent at both the player AND the coaching postions
So what is not to get excited about?
