  3. http://www.usatoday.com/sports/recruiting/...al-summer_N.htm Notre Dame, Auburn, Stanford get stronger over summer By Jeremy Crabtree, Rivals.com Looking for an early candidate for Rivals.com's national recruiter of the year? Check out Notre Dame assistant Brian Polian. It should be no surprise that Polian knows talent. His father, Bill, is the president of the NFL's Indianapolis Colts. Older brother Chris serves as the assistant general manager for the Colts, and younger brother Dennis works for the Arena Football League. Since his arrival at Notre Dame in 2004 from UCF, where he had been that program's recruiting coordinator, Polian has become one of the top recruiters in the Midwest and West. Last year, he reeled in five prospects: two five-star prospects and three four-star players. This year, he is responsible for five early commitments, including the nation's No. 2 player in running back Cierre Wood of Santa Clara (Oxnard, Calif.) and talented linebacker Dan Fox of St. Ignatius (Cleveland). He also helped orchestrate the biggest news of this week, when four-star cornerback Marlon Pollard switched his commitment from UCLA to Notre Dame. "Coach Polian was honest and direct with me," said Pollard, a 6-foot-1, 160-pounder from Cajon (San Bernardino, Calif.) who announced his switch on Monday. "He talked to me about all the advantages of playing at a great academic institution that Notre Dame is. He also talked about how it would be a great fit for me socially. The way he treated me and my family was another big factor in my decision to switch." As Notre Dame's special teams coach, Polian also has helped the Irish score commitments from two of the nation's best specialists — kickers Nick Tausch of Jesuit (Dallas) and Ben Turk of St. Thomas Aquinas (Fort Lauderdale). Polian also has a few big fish potentially on the line. Five-star wide receiver Shaquelle Evans of Inglewood (Calif.) is giving Notre Dame a strong look, as is five-star linebacker Manti Te'o of Punahou (Honolulu). Notre Dame is also trying to make a push for four-star fullback Tyler Gaffney of Cathedral Catholic (San Diego). Tigers roaring: Auburn debuted at No. 23 in the first edition of the Rivals.com team recruiting rankings, but the Tigers should climb higher in the next update. Since the release, Auburn has scored a commitment from three-star linebacker Brandon Jacobs of Parkview (Lilburn, Ga.). They also have a commitment from potential four-star cornerback Reggie Taylor of Peach County (Fort Valley, Ga.), but he has yet to be officially ranked by Rivals.com. Early on, Auburn linebacker coach James Willis has been a workhorse. He has had a hand in helping secure commitments from seven players, including four in-state prospects. Throw in commitments from highly regarded junior college players Nick Fairley and Eltoro Freeman, and the job Willis has done is even more impressive. The Tigers' current class of 18 players definitely is defense-oriented. Auburn always does a great job of finding — and developing — defensive talent, and this group should be no exception. Defensive tackle Jamontay Pilson of Greenville (Ala.) is a four-star recruit with a load of potential, and Harris Gaston of Bessemer (Ala.) Academy, Jonathan Evans of Blount (Prichard, Ala.) and Jacobs give the Tigers one of the nation's best linebacker groups thus far. Stanford soaring: Quietly, Stanford coach Jim Harbaugh is putting together one of the nation's best classes. Things definitely look like they're on the way up in Palo Alto. The Cardinal class stretched to nine commitments this week with the additions of three-star quarterback Taysom Hill of Highland (Pocatello, Idaho) and three-star tight end Ryan Hewitt of Mullen (Denver). Hill, who is 6-2 and 200 pounds, is one of the most overlooked passers in the nation because he's from Idaho, but he was a hot target for many Pac-10 coaches. With standout freshman Andrew Luck already on campus, the Cardinal depth chart at the position suddenly has become loaded with talent. "There are a lot of reasons I picked Stanford, but one of the biggest has to be Coach Harbaugh," Hill said. "I truly believe he's going to get that program turned around, and it's going to be one of the best — not just in the Pac-10, but also in the nation." Harbaugh had Stanford in the top 25 of the team rankings with only seven commitments, and the additions will help the Cardinal's ability to climb in the rankings. Etc.: • Ohio State continues to show why it has the nation's No. 1 class. Earlier this week, the Buckeyes scored commitment No. 24 from three-star offensive lineman Sam Longo of Bellbrook (Ohio). Longo (6-5/270) has tremendous upside and has increased his strength and size over the summer. If he plays well as a senior with his added bulk, he could climb to the four-star level. That would mean 18 of Ohio State's 24 commitments would be rated four-star prospects or better. The Buckeyes are on their way to having a stranglehold on the nation's top-ranked class. • Recruiting in Florida has become a priority for Purdue, and the Boilermakers scored a solid commitment earlier this week from wide receiver Gary Bush (6-0/175) of Columbus (Miami). Bush flew under the radar a bit, but he did have offers from Purdue and Indiana. He also was receiving heavy interest from Boston College, Miami, Michigan and UAB. As a junior, Bush made 15 catches for 320 yards and six touchdowns for a run-oriented team. Bush's team started 11-0 last season, but lost in the playoffs to eventual state – and national – champion Northwestern (Miami). • Star junior college lineman Anthony Morgan is heading to Oklahoma State after he finishes the season at Navarro Junior College in Corsicana, Texas. Morgan is expected to compete for early playing time when he arrives in Stillwater. • Texas A&M scored big over the weekend when the Aggies landed wide receiver Uzoma Nwachukwu of Allen (Texas). The four-star prospect said the chance to be an immediate playmaker for new coach Mike Sherman was a big factor in his decision. • Ball State continues to surprise this summer. Recent commitments from Steele (Amherst, Ohio) running back Branden Kish and Fleming Island (Orange Park, Fla.) linebacker Justin Cruz were nice gets, but the pledge of three-star tight end Jacob Green was huge. Green, from Wyoming (Ohio), near Cincinnati, is the nation's No. 26 tight end prospect.

  7. Iran already has the missile capability to hit Europe if they wanted too. Would you rather us wait till they have the capability of hitting the US with a nuke? Let's just pass this problem onto our children, like we have done with social security, national debt, etc... We're paying the price now for our dependency on oil. It's going to be a few years, but another source of fuel will emerge from this mess. I think someone recently posted that the tata air car will be selling here in America in 2010.
  8. http://www.showbizspy.com/news/06262008/je...-the-big-screen Jericho Heading To The Big Screen? By WENN, June 26 2008 U.S. TV drama JERICHO could be heading to the big screen, according to the show's stars ASHLEY SCOTT and BRAD BEYER. The series - a portrayal of America post-nuclear attacks - was axed by network CBS in March (08) after a small, devoted group of fans begged TV bosses to green light a second series last year (07). But now supporters of the programme could be in for a treat if movie bosses give the go ahead for a film version of the show. And Scott insists that she, and her co-star Brad Beyer, would both be interested in signing on to the project. She says, "We caught wind of a possible movie idea, which we thought was really good. I think Brad had heard about it online the other day, and I just heard tonight, and I thought that would be really wonderful, wouldn't it? Kind of put a closing on it." Beyer adds, "We kind of feel like it needs some closure, because it still feels kind of weird. I mean, we didn't get to a whole second season. ... I think you can do a lot more with it. I think there's a lot of different ways you can go with the story."
  9. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/7459796.stm Kid Rock boycotts iTunes over pay By Ian Youngs Music reporter, BBC News website US music star Kid Rock is refusing to put his albums on iTunes because he says artists do not get paid enough for downloads from the Apple store. Kid Rock is one of the last few acts not fully signed up to the service. He said it was based on "an old system, where iTunes takes the money, the record company takes the money, and they don't give it to the artists". His latest album Rock 'n' Roll Jesus went to number one in the US last year, despite being absent from iTunes. The Beatles, Garth Brooks and AC/DC are the only other major stars who have still not made their music available on iTunes. "Back in the day, we all know the stories of the Otis Reddings and Chuck Berrys and Fats Dominos who never got paid," Kid Rock told the BBC News website. I don't mind people stealing my music, that's fine - but I think they should steal everything Kid Rock "So the internet was an opportunity for everyone to be treated fairly, for the consumer to get a fair price, for the artist to be paid fairly, for the record companies to make some money." But they stuck to the "old system", he continued. "I will be on iTunes eventually because I can't avoid it, but I like to always stick to my guns and prove a point and do something original and because I believe in it." His new single All Summer Long has, though, just been made available on iTunes in Europe and will be downloadable in the UK soon. The rocker, who was famously married to actress Pamela Anderson, said he was losing 10-20% of album sales by not being on iTunes. But he added: "I've just sold a million records, I'm not really feeling that blow." The performer - whose real name is Robert Ritchie - said his record company Atlantic had asked him to "stand up for illegal downloading" a few years ago because it told him "people are stealing from us and stealing from you". "And I go: 'Wait a second, you've been stealing from the artists for years. Now you want me to stand up for you?' "I was telling kids - download it illegally, I don't care. I want you to hear my music so I can play live." Asked whether he was worried about illegal downloading, he replied: "I don't agree with it. I think we should level the playing field. I don't mind people stealing my music, that's fine. But I think they should steal everything. "You know how much money the oil companies have? If you need some gas, just go fill your tank off and drive off, they're not going to miss it." But he said he did not implement that advice himself. "No, I don't steal things. I'm rich." Apple and Atlantic declined to comment. The only Kid Rock album on iTunes is his 1990 debut Grits Sandwiches For Breakfast, to which he does not own the rights. 'Full albums only' Garth Brooks, who is second to The Beatles in all-time US record sales - ahead of Elvis Presley - has also refused to join the iTunes revolution. He wants fans to download only full albums because he says each album is a complete work and the songs are designed to be heard together. "We do albums, we have always done albums," he recently told the BBC News website. Referring to songs from his 1990 album No Fences, he continued: "Friends in Low Places is not Friends in Low Places without Wolves or Wild Horses. "And if people try to make it a money issue, I can get the full album to the consumer for much less than they can get it at 99 cents a song. "There are a number of issues that need to be addressed in the digital downloading world before we introduce our music to it." iTunes has overtaken supermarket group Wal-Mart to become the largest music retailer in the US, an independent study has said.

  11. http://abclocal.go.com/wjrt/story?section=...&id=6195924 Michael Vick still faces state dogfighting charges State trial begins only after Vick serves federal sentence RICHMOND, Va. (WJRT) -- (06/10/08) -- It was a practical move more than anything else. But it does mean Michael Vick's trial on dogfighting charges in Virginia will wait until he and his co-defendants are done with their federal prison sentences. A prosecutor in Virginia says it would cost too much to get Vick and the other two prisoners from where they are serving their sentences and bring them to Virginia for their trials -- then pay to get them back to their respective prisons. Vick is now serving a 23-month prison sentence after pleading guilty to federal charges in a dogfighting operation. The others two men got 21-month sentences.

  21. http://www.casperstartribune.net/articles/...e/d8ojqk3g0.txt Woman Registers a .47 on Breath Tester REDMOND, Wash. — A woman arrested following two car crashes last week registered a .47 blood-alcohol content on a breath test — nearly six times the legal intoxication threshold and possibly a state record. Deana F. Jarrett, 54, was taken to Evergreen Hospital as a precaution following her arrest April 11, the Washington State Patrol said Wednesday. No one was injured in the accidents. Jarrett blew the .47 on a portable breath tester after she collided with two other vehicles in quick succession, the patrol said. A check of all 356,000 breath tests administered since 1998 in Washington turned up only 35 above .40 — and none of those was higher than .45. The legal intoxication threshold in Washington is .08. Jarrett did not appear to have a listed phone number, and it was not clear if she had obtained a lawyer
