  1. If you're Terry Pegula, I hope you hire a team of writers to cook up this post on diamond-encrusted laptops.
  2. Yup. 300 yard games these days are as much a function of a team using a lot of screens and slants (NE) in lieu of run plays, or deficient running games, as they are of great passers. Kelly Holcomb had some big yardage days but I would take Tyrod over him 100 times out of 100.
  3. This. Fitz sees the field better and understands his options better. I don't think he's a more talented player, and his limitations and crunch-time mistakes always reveal themselves. I love the guy to death, and I think he should have been the Bills' quarterback the last two seasons, but he is not carrying any team to the Super Bowl. I think Tyrod absolutely could once he gets more experience.
  4. I agree with the characterization that the game is likely to have passed Polian by. The number of successful GMs and coaches coming in after time off and time spent in the broadcast game is pretty low. You have to be highly adaptable to understand and anticipate trends in the league. I still feel like Polian had very good fortune in having Kelly, the quite underrated Kerry Collins, and Manning to work with. Having the most important position in the game set for you is huge. And yet, his teams only took home one Super Bowl ring. His Bills teams were one of the last great pre-free agency squads, and once it hit, it slowly took a toll on them. They survived because of Kelly /Thomas/Reed/Bruce and a rebuilt defense, but he was never able to get an elite D and elite offense at the same time. His drafts in the 90s were pretty damn bad. He never hit on an heir apparent QB at any of his stops. I actually think that the job he did with Carolina was his finest work. Getting a team off the ground that quickly is impressive. The perspectives he shares in this article amount to throwing darts. Some hit, some do not. He has had a great career, but I would rather look forward.
  5. Just saw this -- thank you, Amanda, for sharing this news. Like many on the board, I love reading Bill's post-game thoughts, as well as the friendly sparring he gets into here. I wish Bill a speedy recovery, and all the best to your family.
  6. Can we call him "Percy Harvins," like the valet guys on Key and Peele? Liam Neesons!
  7. Where in Northern Cal are you? Just moved to the east bay this year...
  8. I'll be seeing Jared Goff in person in a couple weeks. I'll try to give a scouting report.
  9. Does this also free up an extra practice squad spot?
  10. Also, why would a multi-billion dollar operation this dependent on the live deployment of broadcast technology and communications NOT have, like, military-grade comms? Why would they not have the best in the business?
  11. If the Bills' headsets would have just gone out all the time under Marrone / Hackett, EJ Manuel would be an All Pro.
  12. I'm sadly not surprised. Count Jairus among the guys who are very good but don't have a strong desire to play the game. Does that make him smart? Probably. Does that probably help his well-being longer term? Most likely. Does that make him the kind of player you want to invest a lot of money in? Probably not. I think we dodged a bullet here -- and I was mad that they didn't pay him. Fact is that we don't know a lot about player personalities, what goes on day-in, day-out, etc.
  13. Dude, the Cheerios have plenty of pee flavor now. We're good here.
  14. Except there is zero evidence that he didn't discuss it with the coach. Crusade onward.
  15. I don't see why it's impossible to reach 11-5. Ceiling implies that everything goes well and you stay healthy. Why couldn't that be 11-5? Conversely, if everything went wrong for the Pats, they could fare worse than 9-7. This kind of stuff is just fluff to give football-starved fans something to read. It's the equivalent of a Golf Digest sitting by the toilet at a repair shop.
  16. I understand that you're having big feelings right now and that must be really hard. That's what I say to my kids when they are having temper tantrums. Hope it helps.
  17. Do you mean Whaley? I'm certain on some level, all of these guys are "ego" guys. But if he's whom you're referring to, yes, he seems like less of one. I have little to base this on but I trust Graham less than Whaley, even if I somewhat believe Fred. Here's what I'm going to bet Fred is referring to: I would make a healthy wager that when Fred signed his contract last year, that Whaley asserted that he wanted Fred to retire as a Bill. After all this went down, Fred recognized that as a pleasantry and not a vow. Whaley cut Fred knowing that it was not going to be a popular or easy decision, and it was one that was made with a lot of back-and-forth on Rex's part and on his own. That's just my best guess. No basis in reporting or sources.
  18. I love Fred, and I'm inclined to believe his version, but the "going rogue" thing sounds like interior power-play BS. GMs make these calls and they are permitted to. When they aren't, that's when things go south. Let him live by it, but I see zero to substantiate your statement, unless you're a big-time Marrone fan. Now there is a big ol' baby.
  19. I haven't been scouring every thread. But have people really been saying this? I believe strongly that the Patriots would look at an undervalued asset with something to prove and less tread on his tires than most guys his age. But I'm certainly not hoping for that to happen. It's just an example of how this kind of move might come to haunt the bills, that's all.
  20. It would mean getting rid of Bryce Brown and his ball-control issues, or a 5th round draft pick with a bit of a troubled past (who could potentially slip onto the practice squad). It is not a cut-and-dried decision.
  21. They were decent extensions but I'd hesitate to call them market rate. Fred never got one of the giant signing bonus deals. That's not a huge deal, as I'm get the impression that he didn't / doesn't live super-irresponsibly. That said, never being "overpaid" likely meant that the Bills never had to make a painful decision like this until now.
  22. I'm with you. I fail to see where anyone else has proven themselves in matters of pass protection and in terms of their general value to the Bills community.
