40k more troops to Afghanistan
John Adams replied to /dev/null's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
I love this plan that includes providing infrastructure to people living scattered across thousands of miles, living in mountains, scratching out subsistence living in tribes. Shouldn't take too long to provide some good ol' Western infrastructure to them. Color me wanting to get the !@#$ out. Do we suck ass if we leave. To quote Palin, "You betcha." -

40k more troops to Afghanistan
John Adams replied to /dev/null's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
I've not seen a proposal that is good for Afghanistan. So rather than sticking with the current suckass plan, I'd rather take the send the troops home and keep spending down ****ty plan than keep the troops there and spend gazillions ****ty plan. I know, I know. You object to the use of the word "plan" because it assumes a fact not in evidence. -
He's no Brooks Bollinger.

Bills are a lot worse than any Denver team he ever coached but the point is still the same: He's a good coach.

Hard to attract top coach/GM, even for $$$
John Adams replied to John Adams's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Your post misses the point about unstable ownership. Ralph isn't going to be around long, whether he commits or not. No coach--especially one of the elites with the big egos--will want to commit 5-10 years to turning around a franchise when they have no idea about the future ownership. If I'm Cowher, I see Buffalo like this: Owner won't be around in 3 years (probably). After that, franchise sits in uncertainty for at least a season as new ownership takes over...that is a lost season. New owners may or may not be on same page with spending. May move franchise. Those are possible other lost seasons. Why would Cowher want a headache like that when he can pick and choose his next opportunity? (And all this overlooks the fact that the team blows right now, the stadium is nothing special, and Buffalo doesn't have a lot of drag.) -
Hard to attract top coach/GM, even for $$$
John Adams replied to John Adams's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
More like a billion. The point is that no top coach would want to join an organization with ownership in flux. They won't know if the organization will be able to sign any players once they join the team. Anyone think Cowher wants to coach the likes of Demetrius Bell for 5 years? No way. He'd want to fire a bunch of players and replace them with better ones, and if the ownership is unstable, he won't be able to do that. That's why the Bills will be looking a the next tier of head coaches below the Cowhers and Shanahans. Holmgren is an outside shot because the bloom is off his rose after Seattle but he'd still cost a ton of dough. I suspect Haslett and Schottenheimer are the top guys in Ralph's budget. -
The location (Buffalo) and talent (nearly none) will be hard enough to overcome but the Bills also have an owner who won't be around for too long (probably) and future ownership/locale that is completely unknown. This is not the kind of situation that any top coach/GM has any interest in. Imagine you're Bill Cowher and every team wants you. You look at Buffalo, not knowing if you'll have any payroll in a year to sign a single player because the team ownership may be in flux for a year or two. No thanks. The Bills "top" prospects will be guys like Schottenheimer who have been out for a while and want back in.

New Gallup Poll on Health Care Reform
John Adams replied to Magox's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Independents went for Obama last time, probably because they were so sick of Bush's disastrous presidency. Obama also appeared from a distance to possibly be not quite as left as he actually is. Agreed that Independents won't go for him next time. Even Dems like my wife (who is for socialized healthcare) won't vote for him again because she distrusts his spending. Still, he's got a supportive block and it will take a strong ticket to beat him. With such disdain for the Republicans among many of its former supporters, I wouldn't be shocked to see a 3-way race in 2012: Dem, Rep, Teabaggers...which would leave the right split and give Obama a win. -

My wife voted for him and now regrets her vote and believes he's a one-term wonder. -
Someone Please Explain the Palin Hatred!
John Adams replied to PearlHowardman's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Right because calling Obama "an empty suit, an amateur, and a person with is not so much the president as he is the four-fingered asspuppett of Emmanual, Reid, Pelosi and Axelrod" is respecting him and not calling him a joke. Don't be a joke yourself, and please don't put in the position of running to that asshat Big Cat's defense. -

I don't like Palin because she's not bright and is a Christian zealot. But...at least she's unafraid of special interests (some) and would probably have shaken things up in office. Plus she's vocally for small government. That said, if she's an actual contender in 2012, I may join Dwight Drane in his bunker. (Where has DD been anyways? Dow at 10,500 and he's missing it all!) -
A Few Thoughts About The Game
John Adams replied to Bill from NYC's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Poz is easy to root for but he's no better than good. I had time to watch the game yesterday and instead did many other things--watched the game on and off but thankfully mostly off. I haven't given up on a Bills team this early in the season in a long time. I'll still watch but just about any other excuse will call me away from the TV on Sundays for the remainder of 2009. Cols-Patriots game was awesome. Football on an entirely different level. -
I understand the Jacksonville appeal to Gruden but I don't see him going to a franchise that may be sold and move. Not that I think he'll end up with the Bills...just don't think Jacksonville gets a name coach.

Ridiculous. You have to trust your team to stop 3rd and 16 or you should just quit. -

Wood's not playing much better today. I see him facing Edwards on far too many pass plays. -
